The thing people always forget is that if cows, pigs, and most other farm animals weren’t eaten they wouldn’t be around. People don’t have these animals and then one day say, “Gee I have all these animals what should I do with them? I know, I’ll eat them.”

Ummm, actually, no one ‘knew’ where they’d end up except the dude beside Jesus on the cross… and only cause Jesus told him. So I’d get off your self-righteous horse and respect that you’re just as human and fallable as the guy next to you.

We’re biological organisms, and omnivorous at that – which means we have the OPTION of eating meat or veg, or both with some yummy gravy. No one way is right or wrong, so get over it. The reason we have the BRAINS to discover hair dye, liposuction and the sentience of animals is BECAUSE of that meat we ate back in the jungle. Don’t spit on your roots or they’ll choke ya.

Religion is merely the weapon they use to motivate people.
It’s essentially semantics- you believe you’re fighting for God, but you’re actually fighting for your religion and beliefs, and culture, to survive. Hence, whatever the culture’s god is would be fought for because if they didn’t get the resources they needed, the god the culture believes in would no longer exist.

The thing about this over-used joke is that most cows on factory farms are fed the remains of other cows who didn’t make it to slaughter, meaning they are not vegetarians anymore. And pigs are omnivores.
Chickens are often fed other chickens (and their feces).

somebody needs to look up the meaning of organic. just because you aren’t given hormones or antibiotics and your feed hasn’t been touched by man-made chemicals… doesn’t mean you’re not living most of your day in a chute with hoof abscesses (hmmm antibiotics wouldn’t be so bad right about now) and having your horns and testicles seared and clamped off without any pain medication. actually, come to think of it, any anesthesia (or analgesia) would disqualify them from being labeled “organic.” i’ll take mine well-treated with adequate medical care, thank you.

I have a niece (age 11) who decided a few years ago that she’s a vegetarian. I think it’s more a reason to get special treatment at the dinner table because it certainly isn’t a health issue. She considers deep-fried onion rings vegetables and will have several helpings of candied yams and mashed potatoes at Thanksgiving. She’s a kid though and what she really needs is guidance on how to do it the right way. I try sometimes, but it’s tough when the parents are more concerned with being liked than being responsible.

There’s nothing wrong with eating meat, as long as you make sure the animal has had a decent life. Hotdog meat=animal has had horrible short life, and you are eating pain, although you can’t taste it.
Organic meat = tastes better, and animal has had decent quality of life. *climbs off high horse*
