Meh whatever floats your boat… (as long as it is your personal choice and it hurts no one else).
ask the all of adolescent boys that get thrown out on the street caz the old dudes want to hog all the chicks whether it hurts
lol @ jen not at the pic. but lol none the less!!!
Lets move to another country where our ideas are legal…
Middle East ?
yeah because d forcing under age girls to marry and sleep with 40+ year old men in the name of god hurts no one.
Seems bizarre that the FLDS gets more media flack for polygamy than for paedophilia.
Agreed. Make consenting adult polygamy legal so we can nail these guys for statutory rape, which is totally the real crime. =P
I see your point, but there no reason why we couldn’t nail them for statuatory rape (or if they’re young enough, child molestation) even with polygamy stayed illegal. Polygamy is inherently abusive to women of any age, because it implies #1 you can’t go to heaven otherwise #2 all you are is a baby factory and a slave to your husband #3 competition between wives leads to a terrible life of jealousy and fear of being replaced/overlooked/divorced #4 you’re not good enough to deserve a man all to yourself. One could argue being brainwashed your whole life in this lifestyle does not make you a consenting adult, whether you are of legal age or not.
Actually, polygamy isn’t exclusive to one man and multiple women. Polygamy is simply being in a COMMITTED relationship of more than two people, and not going outside that relationship for physical needs. If you were to be married, and went out for one night stands with your spouses consent, that would be called “swinging”, not polygamy. It is very possible to have a successful poly relationship, but all parties involved must be completely honest, and committed to each other.
I think you might be confusing “polygamy” and “polyamory”
They probably are… the term polygamy is correct for the fundamentalist Mormons, in that they are having multiple marriages. The form they practice is known as polygyny (multiple wives) There are also examples of cultures that practiced polyandry (multiple husbands).
None of these are inherently abusive… if people are allowed the freedom to make their own choices.
Not funny. Not at all funny.
Ooh! Controversial!
Btw that was just meant as another comment, I clicked reply by mistake.
Agreed … This is not at all funny.
…
This depresses me. And those of you who think there’s nothing wrong with this… If an adult woman freely chooses to be the eighth wife of some man, who cares? But we’re talking about children forced and brainwashed into that lifestyle. That is undeniably evil.
At any rate, this thing’s worth its existence, but it’s not funny.
If you think about it, everyone forces and brainwashes their kids onto their lifestyle… Not that I’m trying to stand up for these guys, mind you. I’m just thinking.
i’m a kid and all my parents are brainwashing me into is that homework is important. or something like that.
You’re confusing growing up in a culture with cultural rules and norms that parents teach their children. The kids who grow up FDLS are told horrible, scary things to keep them away from anyone not like them, and suffer continual mental abuse to keep them from leaving their compound and faith. Girls have no option but to marry whomever they are told to marry, often consummating the relationship via what equals to rape at a very very young age.
Compare this to the Amish, who actually require their children to go live for a year in the modern world and experiment all they want, so that they make the CHOICE to return to their lifestyle and faith.
That said, I kinda thought this was funny. I feel guilty admitting it, but I laughed.
yeah, but what I see is:
“under-18s brainwashed into sex slavery” = OUTRAGE!
“over-18s brainwashed into sex slavery” = Meh…
Still, this is pretty funny.
You can’t compare them to Amish either. The Amish have their OWN problems with the raping of young women while the young men are on their “year of choice.” Rape of young women, even by their brothers, is something very much covered up by the oh-so quaint Amish.

..because sexual abuse never happens in non-religious circles?
No just because religious circles who do it do it in mass and more
than half of the time get away with it because they are
internalized societies. so get off the soap box cornflake.
It’s not that religious circles do it EN masse (learn to spell PLEASE!!!!) or that they more frequently get away with it. They just receive more media coverage because of the nature of their organizations. I come from a religious community and believe me, there’s no one who finds this more abhorable that we do! This is certainly a case of one absolutely wrong case making all the other good ones look bad.
it happens just as much in some HOME’S! as it does in religous homes/ circles, rape and rape of minours is an all to common experience not everyone can tell someone and not everyone can go to the cops, rapist’s religious or not when the spend a large amount of time around the victom/s can make them feel like its there fault, its “normal” and that everyone will disbelive and hate them if the go to some legal figure for help. And then half the time when they do go for help, nothing gets done.
I come from an Amish community, and anyone who thinks that there’s rape, especially by siblings, in a large amount is both disgusting, and needs to do a little research. That article told a little story and because this woman was so depressed and upset about it, they turned it into something big and made it seem like that’s all the Amish do and it’s not true. Try living in the Amish community for a few decades, live around, play, and work with the people, and you’ll see that just because there was a sour apple in one family doesn’t mean they’re all that way.
The prairie dresses and the crappy hair aren’t the worst of it. The majority of the women support their children through public assistance. The FLDS church has been listed as a hate group based on their teaching regarding race. The worst part? Their nonstop freakshow inbreeding has created a community with an extremely high instance of fumarase deficiency, a birth defect that causes deformation and severe retardation.
If I believed in God, I’d believe He was trying to tell these jokers to knock it off.
you know it
BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
I don’t care if this is controversial or if I’m a bad person for laughing at it…this is gold.
Sorry, but what is wrong with their faces? They’re paler than I am. Something is totally not right about that…
-We’ll inbreed and keep only teh gels !
-Awsum !
-But aftur a while we’ll be dizfunchoonal no ?
- Who cares we has teh gels !
- Yeah, point made.
That picture makes my skin crawl! Whenever these people appear on the TV news, I have to look away. They creep me out with their dead-behind-the-eyes ready-to-drink-the-kool-ade appearance.
What also bothers me, is they keep trotting out the women to cry on cue and put on a dog and pony show for the media, but where are the men? Where are the so-called husbands defending their lifestyle and religion and demanding the return of their wives? If they are proud of their religion and believe that they are in the right and believe that they have not broken any laws, why are they not speaking out?
Even if they have bad problems I don’t think it’s funny to mock the children, especially about being married to their father! Not funny.
I’m glad they gotz to go back to their mothers because you can tell there is still love there no matter what anyone else thinks!!
that is sick and not in the awsome way. NOT OKAY!!!!
Where did this group spring from in the first place? I mean, how did they get the first women of this group to consent to polygamy and brainwashing their children? How did there husbands convince them to throw away there sons?
I just couldn’t laugh at this picture because that is probably the only life they know, at least in the child’s case. This group is disturbing on so many levels!
This picture is totally disturbing! What kind of freaks force 13 year old girls into marrying a 50 year old man? What makes it worse is that the men think they are so godly, that is so insulting to Christians… they are just perverted old men that take advantage of girls and women.
I’m totally fine with polygamy as long as everyone agrees to it, but I’m not really into religion in general. All religion means brainwashing to some degree. When it comes to raping children (and, btw, most pedophiles think they’re being seduced by the children, that the children REALLY want to be sexed up), I’m ready to start sterilizing the offenders.
I know this is a late reply, but sterilization won’t stop anyone from raping. Castration is not an answer to sex offenders, either. Unfortunately, this has been done before and resulted in the offended using other methods to abuse the victim, such as substituting tools and other phallic objects as their own penis no longer exists. This has also been seen in the cases of women rapists and abusers, as they have limited means and often resort to such objects as well (in the case of girls).
Often the male offender endures a great deal of frusteration (understandably, losing your penis is kind of a big deal, hah..) and will take this out on the victim in the forms of harsher sexual abuse, physical abuse, and sometimes even in the murder of the victim.
Sorry for the long reply!
It’s not even that funny, but I LOL’d for five minutes. Jesus Christ.
Polygamy is okay because these guys take the chicks nobody wants anyways
That is a disgusting comment. Just because they’re not wearing clothing and hairstyles you think are hot is no reason to devalue the Mormon girls. Polygamy has an awful effect on these women and children. Their physical appearance and the fact that you aren’t interested doesn’t negate that.
Actually, I laughed pretty damn hard at the picture and the comment.
These women are defending the lifestyles they live with these men, and they
are WILLINGLY participating in these events. That doesn’t make them victims, it makes them Freakin STUPID. Plain and simple, if any of them had half a brain, they’d stop this crap.
The women are brainwashed and stupid…the children are the real victims.
FLDS is not the same as “Mormon.” They are two different churches. Calling them the same is on par with calling Catholics and Protestants the same.
Having that cleared up, I agree with the main thought of thought of this post. Just because an individual doesn’t meet your perception of idealism does not give you the right to devalue them as a human being.
I thought to technically be paedophilia it had to be with someone who was pre-pubescent, ie. not gone through puberty yet. If she’s 15 and can breed more FLDS kids, then it’s not paedophilia. Oh, and legal age for sex in some places is ridiculously low.
Not that I’m FOR this, I don’t even know the whole story about this family. I’m just saying..guys boink young girls all the time, though, not necessarily ones they are related to.
Hell, my cousin and friend both dated men in their late twenties/early thirties when they were teenagers. Disgusting on his part, yes. But, they were consenting….And being brainwashed isn’t that bad if you don’t realize it.
It’s 17 in Texas where this happened. It used to be lower but Texas saw them coming and changed the law so they had more to nab them on when they stepped their crazy feet in the state. Good one, Texas. Unlike UT and AZ that lets this crazy stuff perpetuate. Too bad it didn’t work.
that says it all, doesn’t it.
