I must find that station, and buy as much gas as I can
Anyone else notice he cut in line of that car?
This was at Midway Airport in Chicago a few years ago, and a little boy actually died in one of those cars. Maybe not the best thing to be giggling at.
Kinda hard to see that someone died in this photo (just from looking at it) So excuse me for making a joke at something >.>
a plane friggin landed on a gas station and you think it’s hard to see someone died?
Well, yeah, because NOBODY DIED!!!!!!
Can you read? A little boy in a car died, and possibly more.
Nope. March 2000, Burbank, CA. No deaths.
SNOW? IN BURBANK????
right.
This accident happened at Midway airport in Chicago.
Sorry, both were Southwest, and both were the fault of cowboy pilots. EPIC FAIL.
I think a lot of people have now discovered the hiccup in their “Read before posting!” comments… this system is moderated, so not everything was visible at the time the duplicate comments were made. Ah well…
(And by EPIC FAIL, I mean the pilots, not commenters!)
(And it seems that moderation is off now… *rolls eyes* The fun of fast-growing sites!)
After a bit of research, something apparently no one does any more, this is the Burbank, CA crash.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southwest_Airlines_Flight_1455
I realize wikipedia isn’t always exactly precise, but it still has some good info.
I’m sorry but seriously if we can’t laugh at life especially the bad things in life, then we’re all screwed. Yeah, it’s not funny that a kid died, but people die every second, so relax, you’re always going to piss someone off somewhere, just enjoy the picture and if not let others enjoy it without trying to make them feel bad for laughing at a very funny picture.
Laugh, and the world laughs with you; weeps, and you weep alone.

Isn’t this when a little boy was killed because the plane hit the car he was riding in? Sad.
If that’s what I think it is, that happened near Burbank International Airport several years ago, where the plane came off the runway and stopped there. I don’t remember whether or not that was due to engine or brake failure.
I lived in Burbank at the time. This is the Burbank incident. I was standing not too far from this spot the next morning with the crane company I worked with out of North Hollywood. We had to remove the blast fence and airplane from Hollywood Way.
The accident was caused by a combination of pilot error (admitted by the piolot and Southwest) and ATC approach failing to release a minimum speed hold on the aircraft. It approached at 40 knots over safe speed and overshot the runway. The runway very short.
No one was killed in this accident either on the ground or in the air. Two passengers were seriously injured. If you notice, the doors are not openned. It is because the egress slide openned inside the plane and blocked them!
While I don’t find accidents funny, I do find the gas station that (formerly) sat lined up with a short runway very funny. What was this owner thinking before the FAA and Burbank shut the site down. They put a tiny airport shuttle site there now.
…..
This is possibly the best thing I have ever seen on any cheezburger related website.
Epic win for PunditKitchen.
Epic fail for oil companies.
Also, what is up with the tree in the middle of the street?
It’s not a street. It’s a runway…duh.
The tree’s on the sidewalk across the street from the airport. The plane crashed through the airport’s fence and made it all the way across the street. It turned to the right as it skidded, probably to avoid the gas station pumps. The pumps themselves are safely off to the right of that photo.
I think that’s the southwest jet that went off the end of an icy runway at Midway in Chicago this past winter….. or maybe Captain Oveur had the fish for dinner?
Or Captain Oveur was busy watching gladiator movies….
EPIC HUMOR WIN!
HAW!!!!
That’s Southwest 1455 after it overshot the runway in Burbank, CA (KBUR) on March 5, 2000. Coverage at AirDisaster.com and Wikipedia.
LOL, Plane was like “No gas for you mr.car, it’s mine!”…..crash….
Seriously, I’m driving there and bringing lots of gas cans…
Maybe you should fly instead, it’s quicker!
Yeah, I’m gonna drive there, too, as soon as my time machine is ready.
Photo came from http://www.airdisaster.com/eyewitness/wn1455.shtml
You should be careful of the pictures you laugh at. This was at Midway Airport in Chicago a few years ago, and a little boy died in one of the cars. It was actually really tragic.
I know that some of you will think I’m a “monster” for saying this, but I don’t care at all that a boy died when the plane crashed, the plane freaking crashed, the passengers are lucky they didn’t die. People die constantly, a pretty good friend of mine died who was actually my teacher at one point and who I worked with for three summers. Yeah it sucks because it’s weird knowing he won’t be there anymore, but I have already accepted that people die, and that I will die, and that my parents will die. If you’re going to get upset and feel sad for everyone that dies, you’re going to be sad constantly and always crying your eyes out. If you are going to cry for kids dieing, why not cry for the kids in Africa that are pretty much completely screwed?
Laugh, and the world laughs with you; weep, and you weep alone.

You should read the posts before commenting. This was in Burbank, California a few years ago. No one died. 2 pilots were fired. There are a couple of links in a comment above.
Um… yeah… and maybe not add the same comment multiple times if you don’t know what you’re talking about.
Prices so good even Southwest is pulling up for a fill…
I believe this is the Southwest plane that skidded off the end of the runway at Chicago Midway (notoriously short runways) and into traffic. One boy in the car that the plane is sitting on TOP of was killed. More here:

Read the comments before posting, idiot.
*snickersnort!*
It’s likely that it’s priced per litre, rather than per gallon. Still, good price though!
No, that would be gallons, southwest doesn’t fly to any countries that have petrol in litres.
Yep, gas was $1.59 just a couple of years ago.
Yeah that is kind of a good idea, but that incident still lingers in the area it happened, a few people were crushed to death in their car, when this happened.
This has to be some years ago. Like sometime in the 90s
March 5, 2000 – Southwest flight 1455, Burbank, CA
I remember the 90′s. There was a point in time in the 90′s where gas was $0.69/gal. Craziness, seeing it now, much more than that.
For those who don’t remember, this is when the Southwest Airlines airplane skidded off the runway at Chicago O’Hare in late December a couple years ago.

It’s at LOVE field in Dallas and NOT that long ago. In 2002 I bought supreme gas in central texas for $0.999
This was Southwest Airlines 1455, March 5, 2000

2000 SWA crash at Burbank airport
This was in early 2000s… I want to say 2000? 2001?
Burbank Airport in California, pilot came in too hot for the landing, and instead of doing a touch ‘n go to recover – overshot the runway trying to stop and crashed out thru the retaining walls and across Hollywood Way… where a gas station was! Yeah, stupidest place for a gas station! There’s a grassy field there now.
Source is firepictures.com, I used to know the photographer.

March 5th, 2000
A southwest airliners 737 from Las Vegas overran the runway at Los Angeles’ Burbank (now names Bob Hope) Airport.
The ATC kept the aircraft too high and too fast, although with plenty of time for the pilots to correct. The aircraft was not ‘stabilized’ for approach (did not meet speed and altitude conditions required for a landing), but the pilots did not abort the landing and thusly landed too high and too fast. The aircraft overran runway 8 at burbank, missing the gas station at the other end.
There were minor injuries suffered by 2 individuals.
The pilots were later fired for the incident, and the FAA ordered the gas station closed.
the above pic also is really a re-hashing of this motivational poster:
http://jj.am/gallery/d/45773-2/gas_prices.jpg
although the original pic (without captions and such) is the most infamous from the crash.
I’m pretty sure the aircraft went back into service.
The saddest part is the voice recordings that were released with the pilot saying at the end “well there goes my career.”
Mind if I crash here tonight?
That is the only time that Southwest Airlines had a fatal accident. I was at Midway Airport waiting for my Southwest flight to Kansas City – it had been snowing all day – as you can see the snow in the picture – I’m pretty durn sure that Burbank does not have snow.
It was not even all that long ago. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southwest_Airlines_Flight_1248. December 8th, 2005.
Naturally, when this happened, the airport was closed down – should have been closed down anyway because about 8 inches of snow had fallen that afternoon – and then I had to find a hotel fast. Which I did.
Midway Airport has very short runways.
Okay, how can you people who keep saying this is a different crash. The article you linked to has a god damn WHITE AND BLUE PLANE!
*Looks at pictures*
Red/Gold plane…. White/Blue….Red/Gold….White/Blue
Yeah I can see how you can confuse those…. oh wait no.
People even posted the original article stating where/when this crash happened with this EXACT picture in the article.
But because I’m cool, this is obviously the crash in Hong Kong in the year 2076. That isn’t really gas prices, it’s the price of raw plutonium. You guys shouldn’t laugh because a nun, 2 baby llamas and a fiddle playing genetically modified cactus (destined to become the next president of the world) died in this crash, crushing millions of peoples hopes leading them to suicide. I was the one who took the picture and sent it back in time.
WIN!!!
I love you Reading Comprehension!!! You told someone how ignorant they are and were funny all at the same time. If you helped even one person actually read through the comments before they post their own (incorrect) comment, it was worth it
No, read the other comments. Also, the picture on that wikipedia link you posted clearly shows that the plane has a totally different color scheme than the one here.
Not to mention using Wikipedia as a source is a sure-fire way to get owned…
The real kicker is at the end of that article:
“The accident involving Flight 1248 was the first Southwest Airlines accident in the 35-year history of the company to result in a fatality. The previous major incident was in 2000 when Southwest Airlines Flight 1455 overran a runway at Burbank, California, injuring 43 and narrowly avoiding a catastrophe; the airplane ended up outside a Chevron gas station.”
I don’t think gas was that cheap in 2005, and the “snow” is probably fire retardant. I vote for the Burbank crash.
Yep, fire retardant. Doesn’t snow in Burbank / LA (well, except for that one freakish snow flurry we had once, but that’s a totally different subject
Still remember driving past it, then seeing the airplane parked on the airport field weeks after that.
Incase you all didnt know.
This is the plan the skidded off the runway in LA back in 2000
just saying since i dont see it posted anywhere here on this site…
also… for those who say this is the 2005 crash look at the pic, and then look at the pic of the 2005 crash… no gas station in sight!!!!!!
You assholes saying it’s Chicago in the winter… Does Chicago get much green grass in the winter when there is snow on the ground? Look at the right-hand side of the picture. Fail!
Besides the gas station that quickly disappeared after that accident, so did the little Chinese restaurant that you can see past the sign. And that Chevron station also had a small grill and a nice convenience store, and both were just a block from the Burbank Airport Hilton (now a Mariott) & Convention Center. Until this year when the new cluster of food joints opened across the street from the hotel (NOT in the direct flight path), ever since that plane had decided to park itself across North Hollywood Way there were no longer any food options within a close walk to the hotel, so people going to conventions there had pretty much no choice but to eat the hotel food.
Some of us at conventions there jokingly wondered if the hotel restaurant was behind the accident, as a way of eliminating the competition.
There are now many
Restaurants on Hollywood
Near Bob Hope Airport
Now there are many,
But for years after the crash
There were none around.
oh yeah!!! I remember that Chinese place! I think i even liked that one (I don’t like many of them). Too bad!
Dudes, if nothing else has convinced you, how about this: there are no frigging Chevron stations in Illinois!
In Illinois, Standard Oil became Standard Oil of Illinois became Amoco got bought out by BP. In California, Standard Oil became Standard Oil of California became Chevron.
classic, is this that northwest plane that had the pilots sleeping on it?
