  1. TheLarrikin says:

    Chinese version of smear-the-queer?

    • jellybeans says:

Wow … you really do sink to new lows in every thread don’t you? Careful, you may just fall off the bottom rung of human evolution.

        • Psychoceramics says:

isn’t Smear the Queer one of those games like Tag, or something?

          • TheLarrikin says:

Yeah, with tackling. Which was the point.

@jellybeans: If you have a ‘PC’ name for it, then good for you, but I don’t know of any other name for it.

            • jellybeans says:

Ahh, I appologize for misunderstanding. That sounds like “Kill the Carrier” there is a ball or some sort of flag involved?
That is an awful name for a game by the way.

              • TheLarrikin says:

Eh, it has a ring to it. I wiki’d ‘smear the queer’ and ‘kill the carrier’ – only the first got me to ‘tag’, is that not as popular a name?

It’s generally a football, and you run 20-50 yards or so from ‘endzone’ to ‘endzone’ for points – if you’re tackled, you’ve gotta toss the ball. Similar? I’ve never heard your term before – in what region is it generally used?

                • jellybeans says:

New England area – That is what my neighborhood friends called it. We had either a ball or a piece of cloth (usually a t-shirt from one of the older boys trying to show off) and would run from one end of a little park to the other. the person who tackled you would steal the ball and get 10 seconds free running time before everyone would go for him.
I have only heard the phrase smear the queer in terms of gay bashing, I think in a movie or something. It is probably regional or it could be generational. Queer did not become a popular word until recently it seems – or no one in my area ever said it at any rate.
PS – yes, I know it meant odd. Doesn’t mean the most COMMON use is acceptable to me because I am quite sure when one person calls another queer they mean gay ( possibly unless they are over 60ish)

      • smirnoff says:

You doofus – he’s referring to an old grade school game.

        • jellybeans says:

What kind of grade school did you people attend? Smear the queer is another phrase for gay-bashing … you know, hate crimes.

          • hergieburbur says:

So apparently you were never a pre-adolescent boy? They tend to use words and phrases like that for things without truly understanding them.

            • jellybeans says:

I can honestly say that I have never in my life been a pre-adolescent boy. I have played that game under a different name but even raised by republicans (yes, similar to being raised by wolves) I would have had my mouth washed out with soap for saying queer.

          • Jiddi says:

Smear the Queer was a game involving the entire group trying to tackle the carrier of a football. (Gridiron ball for you from outside the US and Canada.) It generally gets played by pre-adolescent boys and teens. The name comes from the archaic meaning for ‘queer,’ which meant ‘oddball, person who is different.” The name was given colloquially long before the perverted meaning came about.

Even today, with all the prejudice I have encountered on so many different levels that it would take too long to list, the name from the first post reminded me of the childhood game, not gay bashing… which, by the way is another definition perverted from the original.

At least he didn’t call anyone a bundle of sticks or cigarettes.

          • cincinatus says:

…. soooo…. in your narrow view, “queer” always and everywhere meant homosexual? There seems to be a huge correlation between anger and ignorance here.

            • Jiddi says:

              … there usually is.

            • jellybeans says:

I do know what the original meaning was and when spoken the tone is usually a good indicator of intent BUT on the intertubes can you honestly tell me that you see the original meaning used more often or even nearly as often as the more recent meaning?
This is the same argument as saying crackers are just crispy little bread like snacks and the N word really means ignorant. It is sophistry and it is often used to justify people who want to say a naughty word then get caught and try to back pedal.
I apologized for misunderstanding the original post – I explained my reasons and I thought it was written off as a regional difference or attributed to the fact that I have never been a little boy.

              • lolbammy says:

I have never hear the phrase “smear the queer” mean “gay bashing”. If you are going to attempt a contextual defense, you should research it first. The first page of hits on google describe the childhoood game…. there are two exceptions, having to do with gays… but they are referencing the game as a way of being (cough) clever.

You were wrong; you pounced out of ignorance. Admit it and go on with your life.

                Cheeeeeez.

          • pi over 3 says:

The normal kind, not the sheltered prep school you apparently went to. We playit all the time MN when I was growing up in the 90s.

Nothing to do with gays, unless of course, you are one of those professionally offended types obsessed with finding the fault in others.

        • lolbammy says:

In Soviet PunditKitchen, queers smear you!

  2. Clara says:

  9. Evil Pundit says:

    This is Obama’s America.

    • Seth says:

You know, simply taking the sort of thing that Bush and his Repug cronies have already done here (free speech zones, cops bashing heads in NYC) and claiming Obama will do it isn’t good argumentation. It just reminds people of the things your hero has already done to them, rather than making them fear your enemy. The idea that Obama will be more of an authoritarian than Bush is laughable to anyone who has been alive and conscious these last eight years.

      • lolbammy says:

        Snicker…. yeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaahhhhh…. that’s excaaaaaaaaaaaactly the saaaaaaaammmmmmme.

By the way, if you could go ahead and work Saturday, that would be greeeeeeaaaaaatttt…..

        • ema says:

Uhm, yeeeeaaaaaahhh, were gonna need you to pay more in taxes now, so if you could just go ahead and hand it over, that would be greeeeeeeeaat, yeeeeeeaaaaaah…

          • jellybeans says:

Ummmm …. Obama is proposing tax increases for people making over 250k a year. McCain has also said income tax increases are NOT off the table in his efforts to shore up social security.
Claiming McCain will not raise taxes isn’t exactly truthful.

      • Evil Pundit says:

Did you know that NY is a state, and NYC is a city? They are not controlled by Bush.

        Logic FAIL.

    • lolbammy says:

I’m pretty sure that that is a racist comment, according to Obama.

  10. hueydoc says:

Nah- That’s Chinatown in San Francisco after someone used the word
” Niggardly” in Obamaland of the possible future.
    ( Actually, they said “Niggaldry”)!!!!

  11. Bob says:

problem… Chinese riot police dont wear english on their backs

  12. Jack Pearl says:

    Except the party chairman!

  13. sidzaman says:

    Unrelated, but still somewhat related:
Everyone always sems to get all freaked out about communism, but really, in its pure form, it is easily one of the best systems of government I’ve ever heard of. Everyone shares the work, and everyone shares the reward. The only reason communism doesn’t work is because you would need a very non-corrupt government, who wouldn’t favor certain people/areas with more resources. To my knowledge, this does not exist.

  14. THE RESISTANCE says:

Another reason to get rid of it…

  15. Jiddi says:

    *passes Anon the Blue Potion*

    Hope this helps…
