My high school taught sex-ed with all of the methods of contraception, STDs, and all the rest. Abstinence was discussed, but not enforced. the students that were going to have sex had sex, and those that weren’t didn’t. The ones that did, though, did it safely. my graduating class had not a single pregnancy, and STD’s were very rare. teaching the benefits of contraception works. teaching abstinence is by and far a failed way of teaching the subject. students should be informed, not left innocent so that when they try things, they are safe

Birth control does fail, yes, I’ve had it fail on me twice (first condoms failed then the depo shot, my body rejected the shot) and, in states like Louisiana, it’s so hard to get an abortion that, by the time you find a doctor who’ll do it and go through all the red tape this state requires, it was too late in term to deal with it and I was forced to carry full term, I now have permanent health problems due to my second pregnancy’s complications as well as I refuse to even be intimate with my husband due to complete fear of becoming pregnant again. Many people try to judge me for getting pregnant with an unwanted child with my husband (We put the children up for adoption because I wanted them to have a family who actually wanted children) but, at least I know that it wasn’t due to carelessness, it was due to birth control failing.

I think it’s sickening that they refused to give you the plan B pill just because you were under 18, if anything those under 18 need to have it available to them the most! If McCain and Palin get into office, things will be a thousand times worse and women will become slaves to biology. I don’t have anything against young mothers, but I do have something against those who refuse them the help they need.

Whoa, what kind of teenagers do you know? Fortunately we were taught a comprehensive sex-ed curriculum in my school, and I got myself on birth control before I even lost my virginity. I STILL use condoms, even in a monogamous relationship. And just to show that knowing how to protect yourself doesn't promote teenage sex: my best friend (who was in the exact same health class) is still a virgin at age 20, even though she's been with the same guy for over a year and doesn't find premarital sex morally wrong. She has no plans to change that anytime soon. On the other side, I have a friend who went to a high school which taught abstinence-only, she hardly ever uses a condom, both of her sisters are enjoying unplanned pregnancies, as did her former classmate, who ended up getting an abortion, which I give her much respect for.

I work with the adult remnants of hideous upbringings. The shells of humans ruined by ignorant (or stupid) parents, screwed literally or figuratively, given alcohol as children to shut them up, given out for prostitution.

It’s sickening, but humanity is anything but humane.

My opinion on educating my children is based on talking to my kids to understand what they are being taught. If issues come up where my wife and I disagree with the teacher, we tell our kids “answer what the teacher says, and know what you believe to be true. Don’t confuse the two.”

I would feel uncomfortable to think that strangers are teaching my kids about the reality, beauty and the intimacy of sex. They should teach them the mechanics of sex (biology). The rest is my job.

Now, what do we do about these overly fertile, undereducated, uncaring pieces of shit who are popping out babies, but have no intention of raising them?

No, it’s an indication that her daughter made her own choices, which every Christian does, and every non-Christan as well.

I raised my son in a conservative household, taught him what I believe is right, and he just became a father (not married). My older sister, raised in the same environment as me, got pregnant at 14.

The situations may suck, but it didn’t mean my parents (or I) were failures. The kids are a gift, no matter the circumstance. God doesn’t hold it against them or their parents. He forgives. My kids are no better than theirs because I was married.

The reason we don’t know this crap about other people is that their kids didn’t get pregnant.

I can’t believe this is brought up as an issue.

Actually, you have to realize that we aren’t really attacking the girl. Bristol is a girl being used for political gain. She is going to be marrying a school drop out and having a baby before she is even 19. She is already being used as babysitter service for Mom’s newest child.

What we are attacking is the fact that the mother is a person who advocates abstinence only education and opposes birth control. So depending on what she said to Bristol as a mother, she is either a hypocrite or an idiot.
