  7. x-bert says:

    De-icing FAIL.

  8. I suspect it’s the radar for the F-22 (installed on a modified F-4, since the nose looks different than standard F-4′s) undergoing extreme temperature testing.

  9. cobrajoe says:

“Ice is forming on the tips of my wings
Unheeded warnings, I thought I thought of everything.”

Now we are getting clever pictures. Punditkitchen is going down the drain.

We need more bush hating here.

    • DeathWyrmNexus says:

I could scream some explicitives if you like.

    • eddiepscetti says:

“Obama will be elected when hell freezes over.. oh damn!”

    • eddiepscetti says:

      How about:

“As George Buch left the White House today he was wisked away to this secret location, placed inside the plane and cyrogenically frozen to be reinstalled as President in the next Millineum.”

    • jellybeans says:

Maybe this is one of those Russian strike planes in Venezuela?
I mean Palin did indicate we might be going to war with Russia, Venezuela wasn’t mentioned in a friendly manner in her RNC speech and now has kicked out or ambassador. They won’t let him back until the leadership changes. McCain is the same as Bush for all intents and purposes so that probably isn’t what they mean when they say “new leadership”
I wonder if McCain gets in if Venezuela will cut off our oil. How long before we declare war on them if they try?

      • Dave says:

Thing that scares me about that is how so many of us (Americans) are completely stubborn and retarded – so we say “SCREW THEM – THIS IS AMERICA, THEY CAN’T DO THAT TO US, WE’RE NUMBER ONE” etc and would probably vote for McCain just to show those international pussies how we roll. Look at how so many people got behind Bush in his re-election and defended him just because many European nations questioned him and supported NOT voting for him. That didn’t turn out so well.

    • jamisings says:

Why? Bush is a good president. He’s not to blame for the country’s problems. Congress is.

People who blame Bush for our problems don’t understand how the government really works. The president isn’t in total control, congress is. They can even force through bills the president vetos.

      • PiMan says:

He has but more power than you give him credit for, but you are also right to a large extent. The Republican Congress that was in place for the majority of the last 8 years had a hand in screwing up your country too.
Taking much of the rest of the world with them.

        • PiMan says:

Note. That large extent doesn’t include Bush being a good president. He has successfully vetoed things to indication this.

          • Charlie Foxtrot says:

This President has actively sought to strengthen an already too strong Administrative Branch. Agree that the Congress does not own up to its responsibility, but as PiMan said, the Congress, controlled by his own party for much of his administration gave him complete power and authority and failed to hold him accountable, or even question anything that he did. Since 2006, while the Democrats have a majority, they do not have a veto-proof majority. How many times did he use the veto between Jan 2001 and Jan 2007 versus how many since Jan 2007? Congress by its nature is harder to hold accountable, because people cannot see past their local self-interest to the interest of the nation as a whole, and the professional politician class that occupies Congress have forgotten the Federalist’s concept of “enlightened self-interset.” As to whether or not Pres Bush is a good President or not, history will tell, but his actions at this point have only served to weaken the USA and strengthen other world powers, such as Russia, China, India, and to some extent the EU.

            • PiMan says:

“but his actions at this point have only served to weaken the USA and strengthen other world powers, such as Russia, China, India, and to some extent the EU.”
              .
Maybe he’s not such a bad president then. His actions may lead the US to act multilaterally in the future instead of the current dangerous unilateral approach.

      • Lolist says:

The president, per se, only has so much power; you are correct there. But Bush, and his FAMILY wield enormous amounts of “persuasion power” – if the Bush’s want it, they generally get it…

And if congress still doesn’t bow to a Bush whim, well, Cheney does have several “hunting” guns to choose from…

      • Dick says:

But do you know HOW many bills he’s vetoed?

    • Jim says:

Frozen rain from McCain lays mainly on the plane

  11. Dragona says:

    Who freezes a plane? Honestly!

  12. Roguim says:

OH maybe it’s an strategy from the air force tho combat the global warming.

OR they take the expression “cold war” too serius….

  13. Char says:

    “Icing Problem?”

  14. Ric says:

I don’t know, but i remember in my Popular science from this summer they featured an artist in Germany that froze a BMW with mist. it was a traveling exhibit in Europe. it may be something done by him. but whoever said the nose cone was different, it may be possible, but that looks the average cone for the F-4

  15. Omega says:

If the plan was left say in the higher parts of russia to say hide it from a spy plane from another country. they would of probably forgotten about it.

  16. divide_by_zero says:

the south koreans i beleive are freezing F-4s for “evaluation”…. beats me why though….

  17. Ahriman says:

I’ve heard of a new korean jet testing some days ago?
    Maybe this?

    Not sure…

  18. Polaris says:

Cold conditions testing at Elgin. An F-4

  19. dhertz64 says:

Why are we still testing F-4s? Vietnam is over. In fact, all air-superiority wars are over.

    • Zan says:

What makes you say that? Just because a large part of the fighting takes place on the ground doesn’t mean the air war is over. In the future, there will still be fighters clashing in the skies. This is just like when the Generals said the dogfight was extinct, there will always be dogfights, there will always be aircraft that will take to the air to fight one another for air superiority.

And as for those questioning this pic, Polaris (and dummy) hit the nail(s) on the head; cold weather testing at Eglin on an F-4 Phantom II (probably an F-4E). As for why we’re still doing tests on Cold War Era aircraft, because it’s built like the modern fighters we have today, and therefor it’s as close as we can get to them without pulling one off the line to test on. Besides, it’s easier to do tests on a retired aircraft than a fighter currently in use.

    • Charlie Foxtrot says:

Not necessarily. All wars are not over, we don’t know who we will have to fight in the future, and aircraft will always play a role.

    • andrew says:

a lot of countries with lower-budget air forces use retired fighters (F4 here) – why they would be testing them like that though is a good question.

and if we ever go to war against anyone that actually has an air force, there will be an air-superiority war.

  20. SODAssault says:

    Puns make me cringe.

  21. cellandau says:

This is a Korean test of low temperature-limits on one of their fighter jets.

  22. Jetman123 says:

Someone forgot to leave the anti-ice switch on in that jet.

  23. Isengrim says:

Cripes, it looks like CFB Gander in September.

  24. Llamaz says:

  25. awarkward says:
