Cold War leftovers

someone left the AC on!
its actually a test facilty to see how planes react to hi altitude and cold air
It’s actually a test facility to see how planes react to high-altitude frosting explosions.
the guy above me has no life
What about the guy below you?
…awww sh!t, that’s me
Good thing I’m not a guy.
Oh man! I hate it when my jets get freezer burn!
You need to try saran wrap. That’s how I keep my F-16 fighting and bombing fresh, right to the battlefield.
it’s an F-4
Yup
The guy above me judges books by their comments.
DOH!
At least I didn’t say ‘first’ or ‘photoshop’.
I just know those cold cuts are going to give me heartburn.
De-icing FAIL.
I suspect it’s the radar for the F-22 (installed on a modified F-4, since the nose looks different than standard F-4′s) undergoing extreme temperature testing.
That makes sense. Thank you for the infor.
Hey, I like Bush.
But I also like shaven too…
LOL
Doesn’t look like an F-22 nose though – might be a UAV nose.
Definately is a Extreme cold test though, frezzing to push materials to there limit.
Sure it’s not russian made?
I’m sure.
yea i know it was and F-4 from the wings and tail but the nose compley thew me
“Ice is forming on the tips of my wings
Unheeded warnings, I thought I thought of everything.”
Yeah, that’s right…
pink floyd Win!
Learning To Fly for the win!
Lost your navigator?
I’m sorry, that would have been a win but you are disqualified for declaring it yourself.
confirm 3-8-echo ready for departure
3-8-Echo is clear for launch. Happy hunting!
What the hell is going on.
What happened to all the bush is dumb jokes? And here I thought everyone here thought those were extremely hilarious.
Now we are getting clever pictures. Punditkitchen is going down the drain.
We need more bush hating here.
Uhm Okay, uhm How about…Bush really frosts my jet’s balls?
Now that’s funny.
I could scream some explicitives if you like.
“Obama will be elected when hell freezes over.. oh damn!”
How about:
“As George Buch left the White House today he was wisked away to this secret location, placed inside the plane and cyrogenically frozen to be reinstalled as President in the next Millineum.”
Now you are just trying to give me nightmares.
That reminds me of the movie “Idiocracy”
I still need to watch that… *makes list*
No, you really don’t. You actually have to be one of the Idiots in the movie to not be insulted by the puerile “humor” of it.
Read, instead, the short story that it was based on, which is much more horrific and still chilling to this day.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Marching_Morons
No, you really don’t. You have to be one of the idiots of the movie to find any of the humor worth the time. You would be much better served reading the short story it was based on, “The Marching Morons”. It is horrific and frighteningly close to the mark, even today. Maybe even more so than ever before. It is by Cyril Kornbluth and his name, alone, is worth reading a couple of times for chuckles.
I thought Idiocracy was pretty good for what they were trying to pull off. The terrible thing is how true the whole redneck-spawning thing is. Depressingly so.
But… it’s got electrolytes.
It’s what plants crave.
Maybe this is one of those Russian strike planes in Venezuela?
I mean Palin did indicate we might be going to war with Russia, Venezuela wasn’t mentioned in a friendly manner in her RNC speech and now has kicked out or ambassador. They won’t let him back until the leadership changes. McCain is the same as Bush for all intents and purposes so that probably isn’t what they mean when they say “new leadership”
I wonder if McCain gets in if Venezuela will cut off our oil. How long before we declare war on them if they try?
Thing that scares me about that is how so many of us (Americans) are completely stubborn and retarded – so we say “SCREW THEM – THIS IS AMERICA, THEY CAN’T DO THAT TO US, WE’RE NUMBER ONE” etc and would probably vote for McCain just to show those international pussies how we roll. Look at how so many people got behind Bush in his re-election and defended him just because many European nations questioned him and supported NOT voting for him. That didn’t turn out so well.
Why? Bush is a good president. He’s not to blame for the country’s problems. Congress is.
People who blame Bush for our problems don’t understand how the government really works. The president isn’t in total control, congress is. They can even force through bills the president vetos.
He has but more power than you give him credit for, but you are also right to a large extent. The Republican Congress that was in place for the majority of the last 8 years had a hand in screwing up your country too.
Taking much of the rest of the world with them.
Note. That large extent doesn’t include Bush being a good president. He has successfully vetoed things to indication this.
This President has actively sought to strengthen an already too strong Administrative Branch. Agree that the Congress does not own up to its responsibility, but as PiMan said, the Congress, controlled by his own party for much of his administration gave him complete power and authority and failed to hold him accountable, or even question anything that he did. Since 2006, while the Democrats have a majority, they do not have a veto-proof majority. How many times did he use the veto between Jan 2001 and Jan 2007 versus how many since Jan 2007? Congress by its nature is harder to hold accountable, because people cannot see past their local self-interest to the interest of the nation as a whole, and the professional politician class that occupies Congress have forgotten the Federalist’s concept of “enlightened self-interset.” As to whether or not Pres Bush is a good President or not, history will tell, but his actions at this point have only served to weaken the USA and strengthen other world powers, such as Russia, China, India, and to some extent the EU.
“but his actions at this point have only served to weaken the USA and strengthen other world powers, such as Russia, China, India, and to some extent the EU.”
.
Maybe he’s not such a bad president then. His actions may lead the US to act multilaterally in the future instead of the current dangerous unilateral approach.
The president, per se, only has so much power; you are correct there. But Bush, and his FAMILY wield enormous amounts of “persuasion power” – if the Bush’s want it, they generally get it…
And if congress still doesn’t bow to a Bush whim, well, Cheney does have several “hunting” guns to choose from…
But do you know HOW many bills he’s vetoed?
Frozen rain from McCain lays mainly on the plane
Who freezes a plane? Honestly!
To get rid of the snakes, obviously.
*Who
“One who wishes to get rid of he snakes, obviously.”
Total Win comment!
People who want to make sure they don’t fly too high and die as a result of the frost that forms on objects at that altitude?
If that much frost formed on the aircraft at Whatever altitude I highly doubt it would be able to maintain lift.
One way to ensure you have water in your fuel tanks…
keeps them fresh…didn’t you know?
OH maybe it’s an strategy from the air force tho combat the global warming.
OR they take the expression “cold war” too serius….
Th White Witch decides to escalate things against Aslan?
“Icing Problem?”
buwahahhaha
i was just about to make this comment.
Ironman reference FTW.
I don’t know, but i remember in my Popular science from this summer they featured an artist in Germany that froze a BMW with mist. it was a traveling exhibit in Europe. it may be something done by him. but whoever said the nose cone was different, it may be possible, but that looks the average cone for the F-4
If the plan was left say in the higher parts of russia to say hide it from a spy plane from another country. they would of probably forgotten about it.
the south koreans i beleive are freezing F-4s for “evaluation”…. beats me why though….
I’ve heard of a new korean jet testing some days ago?
Maybe this?
Not sure…
Yes this. I saw it in a newspaper.
Cold conditions testing at Elgin. An F-4
Don’t you mean Eglin AFB?
Why are we still testing F-4s? Vietnam is over. In fact, all air-superiority wars are over.
What makes you say that? Just because a large part of the fighting takes place on the ground doesn’t mean the air war is over. In the future, there will still be fighters clashing in the skies. This is just like when the Generals said the dogfight was extinct, there will always be dogfights, there will always be aircraft that will take to the air to fight one another for air superiority.
And as for those questioning this pic, Polaris (and dummy) hit the nail(s) on the head; cold weather testing at Eglin on an F-4 Phantom II (probably an F-4E). As for why we’re still doing tests on Cold War Era aircraft, because it’s built like the modern fighters we have today, and therefor it’s as close as we can get to them without pulling one off the line to test on. Besides, it’s easier to do tests on a retired aircraft than a fighter currently in use.
Also, you are on my awesome list.
well said- it’s why they still put some sort of machine gun even in the newest, most high-tech fighters
Not necessarily. All wars are not over, we don’t know who we will have to fight in the future, and aircraft will always play a role.
a lot of countries with lower-budget air forces use retired fighters (F4 here) – why they would be testing them like that though is a good question.
and if we ever go to war against anyone that actually has an air force, there will be an air-superiority war.
Puns make me cringe.
This is a Korean test of low temperature-limits on one of their fighter jets.
i doubt that somewhat, being as its an F-4
Someone forgot to leave the anti-ice switch on in that jet.
Cripes, it looks like CFB Gander in September.
After returning from the Battle of Hoth..
can any one say, air fare does not include price for blanket.
