That’s some funny shit people! It’s like the VP debate when Palin’s plan for alternative energy was to drill for oil in Alaska. It’s the same damned thing. I thought the movie was well done (I’ve read the books too). Even though it didn’t try to remain faithful to the exact events of the book, they captured the spirit of the books, and did hit on the major important themes rather well.

If you read the Bible in context, the apostles have been saying it’s the end times since right after Christ was crucified. Remember, you’re dealing with an infinite being to whom time means nothing.
Besides, I’m not Catholic and don’t agree with the Catholic church on a lot of seriously fundamental things
As far as the religious symbolism goes, I can see that to a point, but you have to understand that John was seeing into the future and had no point of reference for the things he was seeing. The locusts with hair like women who shot death from their mouths could be helicopters, and there is a pretty good description of a tank in there as well.
I know you and I don’t agree about the church, but I’m speaking to you as if we do I really don’t know how much you know about the church, the Bible, or different religions, so I’m going to assume you know the basics and go from there
How exactly did we get on the time of the End Times from talking about the 144,000? lol

Well, I could be wrong, but I thought I remembered from my religion classes that prior to the Council of Nicea they just refered to themselves as Christians and their religion Christianity. Also, at that time there were so many different factions and beliefs and individual sects of Chrstianity that it wasn’t a unified religion by any means. The roman emperor (was it Constantine?) at the time wanted to unify Christians in their beliefs so that they had one message as he felt that this would help unify the empire when he made Christianity the official religion. After the Council of Nicea you could then refer to the church as being the Catholic Church, but I am also thinking that Eastern Orthodox is as old if not older and splintered from Catholics at this time. Again, I could be wrong but I thought that was what I remembered from my Religion professor.

Anymore I feel that is always the case when you make a movie based on a book. I have to go into it pretending that the movie is completely it’s own entity and has nothing to do with the book it was based on. It’s the only thing that allowed me to somewhat enjoy Stardust on a very basic label.

I think that’s a rather cynical way to look at voting. If more people voted for third parties instead of “choosing the lesser of two evils” then more third parties would have a chance. But not voting for a third party perpetuates the cycle of feeling locked intd two choices. And if the person you don’t want to get elected happens to win because of all of the third party votes, you can still say that you didn’t vote for him.

I think it’s sad that the public has come to think that voting for what you truly believe is throwing away your vote.

The Catholic church teaches that the entire Book of Revelation is religious symbolism. Not the true story of the end times. Also, St. Paul flat out said that man cannot know the time of the end. That is in the Bible as well. So who is right? St. John or St. Paul?

That does not make any sense considering that St. Peter was the first Pope of the Catholic church. The Nicene Council may have taken care of some formalities, but it was still the Catholic church. And even if you were right, the Catholic church was, at one point and time, THE Christian religion. From then on, all Christians would have been Catholic if they believed the same thing.

The only problem with that is, it’s basically a throw away vote. I don’t disagree, but what ends up happening is the guy you really DON’T want to get elected ends up winning. Now if there was a big enough push to get someone elected other then from the two major parties, I would be on it in a heartbeat.

Who’s left? How about a myriad of third party candidates, as well as a write in option so you can pick someone who is more in line with your beliefs and hopes for the country? You don’t have to pick the lesser of TWO evils. You can actually vote for someone who stands for what you believe.

And you can do the same thing in this election.

There are quite logical and very solid descriptions of the development of the eye. In fact, anything with photo-reactive pigments in it’s cells has a homologue of the eye involved. EVEN PLANTS!
It might be astronomically improbable for it to spontaneously occur but that’s why it’s called EVOLUTION.

For once I agree with you Froofrou, and I am an Agnostic leaning towards Atheism. If you believe in God it is entirely resonable to believe that he was responsible for the first spark of life, the first single celled organism that would eventually evolve to all life on this planet. If you don’t believe in God it is just as resonable to say that it was pure random chance that set off that spark and set us on our evolutionary path. Neither viewpoint negates anything that happened after that initial spark of life. However, not all Christians are willing to reconcile the two. And I won’t even get into the difference between scientific theory and Joe Schmo down the block saying, “I have a theory on that!”
