How about this. Both parties have, and will always do shady things and that is the way the world turns, and as South Park put it “Ultimately you are always choosing between a Giant Douche and a turd sandwich”. Both parties suck. All politicians suck by nature. Anyone who would even WANT a position like that, and work so hard for it obviously has some sort of power issue and will probably do whatever it takes to get what they want. It just comes with the kind of person that would even go for things like that. It is unrealistic to think that anyone would spend there whole lives working for a position like those just for the sake of others. Period.

Lets go back to the 50′s. When teens and parents rarely talked about sex. Where unwed young mothers were shunned. Sure worked then right? (sarcasm…) That’s the thing about teaching abstinence only education. Kids talk about sex with eachother- so why can’t adults talk reasonably with young people about sex? Why?
We came from it. Every single person in this world was created because 2 people had sex. It’s not shameful; it is natural, human procreation. To just say not to do it, is like sticking your head back into the sand of an era gone by. I do not think it is like condoning it to say “Here is what to use so you don’t get pregnant or get a disease”, young people are impulsive, and have a lot more options and choices, and responsiblity for themselves; they are becoming adults. They lack the years of trial and error experience to look back on for their decisions, and often feel a sense of immortality.

I think it is wise to speak to them about the risks involved with having sex, they are at an age where they start to make decisions. So give them the real facts, and acess to protection from diseases, and give acess to birth control. Because parents can’t be there 100% of the time; they are growing into adults, and it is part of their process. Be supportive and understanding, open and upfront about your views and concerns with your teens.

Learning from friends is not good education when it comes to sex education.
I had a friend who thought you got pregnant by french kissing; luckily I was able to talk to my mom about these issues, and we had sex education in our highschool. So we friends were able to set our misguided buddy straight.

I have to disagree with that last statement (“…the number of teen

of the tools to do it”. )The number of teen pregnancies will decrease
when we completely remove their hormones. Because as you said,
“You can show the kids the tools they have accessible, show them how
to use them but you can’t force them to use them”. The only teenagers
who will use proper protection and contraception are those that are
responsible…the same kind that will look into what those strange and
mystical condoms are and how they work when they decide to have
intercourse. (And I’m definitely not saying that anyone who has been
“caught up in the moment” is completely irresponsible. Mistakes are
mistakes and even the best people make them.) I know that I somehow
figured it all out…even after my abstinence only education. ‘Cuz when
I was in school, I was also taught how to read…weird, huh?

I could be wrong, way wrong, and am willing to be. But my undestanding is that “abstinence only” education means that kids are taught that absitnence is the only 100% way to avoid getting pregnant. Every other form of birth control does have incidences of pregnancy. My brother has two condom children and birth control pill child. He was not a teenager when he had them, but they were all surprises. Good surprises, but surprises nonetheless. Now I can tell you, since I was at prime lets-make-sexy-time ages when the kids were born, there was not better lesson on birth control. None.

I don’t live in Alaska, but I know for a fact that Wasilla is crawling with reporters now who would love to dig up dirt on Gov. Palin. If there was anyway they could say Bristol’s high school taught abstinence only sex education it would be all over the news right now. Just because someone knows about condoms does not automatically mean they won’t get pregnant. Many teenage girls, especially in rural areas, want nothing more than to get pregnant and get married.
