  1. jellybeans says:

:-) The shields look like emoticons

  2. outlight says:

:O those poor helpless oppressors ( first btw ) kinda

  3. anonymous says:

It’s like that ending from 300, except no CG. And more fail.

  4. nickj says:

    Haha! Reversed situation.

  5. Seth says:

Looks like Republicans on Pundit Kitchen, desperately trying to dish out the oppression while being pummeled by the vast majority of reasonable, mainstream American liberals.

  6. DeathWyrmNexus says:

Am I seeing swords in the hands of those protesters/rioters/whatever?

  7. bittervoter says:

While this made me snicker a bit, this is either a really blurry image or a bad photoshopping job. The riot police in the middle just don’t look entirely naturally, in large part because they seem to have a dark circle around them, which I suppose is sort of amusing in it’s own right.

    • anonymous says:

Yeah, not natural. Lets see what it looks like when you’re being targeted by an armed and angry mob.

      • bittervoter says:

Alright dork, I was commenting on the picture quality, and any logic will tell you photoshopping is very likely, especially when no source is cited. It seems to me you’re taking this lol and this site a bit too seriously.

        • anonymous says:

Ah, give it a break. Real or not, if I were them, I’d be that close to the guy (or gal) next to me. I don’t really mind if it’s been photo shopped, it just always spoils the fun when someone points it out. Sorry I got snappy, it’s Monday and it hasn’t been going well.

          • bittervoter says:

I understand about Mondays. I didn’t mean to be snarky or spoil anyone’s fun, just whenever something *is* photoshopped, I get dissapointed.

            • SPCOsborne says:

it coulda been a training exercise and the graders decided to say “screw it, let’s have some fun” and instead of having 20 guys rioting they had that number, all with the knowledge that they were gonna wallop the police.

    • Jess says:

This is a really blurry image. It was taken with a longer shutter speed which causes motion blur.. One fifth or even as much as one third of a second. The ‘dark circle’ is probably someone who was moving around really fast. You know, like people try to do when they’re being mobbed.

  8. CHT says:

It must be some Asian country, in which Chinese-like character are used.
    Probably Japan or Hong Kong.
The words on the shield are English “POLICE”, and the same term in their language, my guess is “警察”.

For other countries using those character,
In Singapore, people attacking police is unbelievable.
In China, I think it should be “公安”
In Taiwan – well, I live in Taiwan – white or blue raincoats are not commonly seen here. Those people should be all wearing yellow ones I suppose.

  9. lowly grunt says:

Waaayyy at the top of the picture, it looks like one of the emoticons jumped out of the circle, all crazy ninja like. You can see one of the little faces, but it’s sorta blurry.

    • bittervoter says:

Yeah, one of the reasons I think this pic may have been photoshopped. That section of the pic has a weird shadow on it and looks like there could have been some cropping there. Of course, there could have been a lot of movement that caused the picture to come out blurry.

      • Jess says:

        If I may…

I can’t speak as to whether this picture was shopped or not, I do not have the kind of expertise required for such things.

But I *can* tell you from the perspective of a photography student, that looking at the blur on the limbs of those mob members closest to the blob of police, and the the blur on the stray officer that appears to be running away (for whatever reason), the two appear to be consistent. This picture was just taken with a longer shutter speed. Maybe one fifth or even as much as a third of a second.

  10. EricJ2190 says:

    In Soviet Russia…

  11. Steve Stadler says:

Holy shit! Now I know why I cannot identify with you asshat libs. You are a bunch of D&D Nerds! Ha hahahahah! Well, now I will just pity you instead of getting angry. Sorry about everything I said before, I did not realize how bad off you all were. I knew D&D led to some weird shit, but a gateway to liberalism? Who knew.

    • Lolnathan says:

If anything D&D promotes Conservative ideals. At least the Forgotten Realms scenario is mostly made up of kingdoms and other monarchy-like setups.

    • DeathWyrmNexus says:

Considering that I am a moderate, you would be wrong.

    • n8 says:

Well, one has to -think- to play D&D, so it does lead one away from conservatism.

      • DeathWyrmNexus says:

Ya being able to do simple math quickly in your head and think on your feet… I am seeing a pattern of those who criticize it. They lack those traits.

        • I_Tego_Arcana_Dei says:

I don’t lack those traits, I just have better things to do with my time…

Pot was my gateway into liberalism, lol

          • DeathWyrmNexus says:

Considering that I am a hardcore geek and not a liberal, I agree. Then again, you aren’t criticizing us, now are ya? ;)

            • hey now says:

Hey, some conservatives play D&D too. Mostly just the cool ones though. You’d be surprised how many LARPs are in the Bible Belt too.

              • DeathWyrmNexus says:

I can dig it. Gives us something in common which is nice. I am a moderate anyway.

                • heh says:

How can you be mad at someone when you can take them out to the woods, dress up like a monster and beat them with plumbing supplies while they fall down “dead”?
There’s been some interesting run ins at parks where some random person shows up to fish or is looking for a church outing or something and runs into gamers in interesting costuming and makeup (for instance red skinned with horns). And there’s nothing more interesting than taking a break from a game and going into town to the local Kroger with your buddy who’s dressed like a goblin. It’s funny how hard people will try to pretend he’s not green with orange hair. “Just act normal…”

    • Jane St.Clair says:

Calling people nerds on an internet forum. Hmmmmmmmm, Pot, I’d like you to meet my friend Kettle, you have a lot in common.

  12. Enero25 says:

BEAT THEM WITH STICKS, BEAT THEM WITH STICKS!!!

  13. SPCOsborne says:

At this point I think that the use of tear gas -MIGHT- be prudent. Even if the police don’t have masks and aren’t good around it it’ll still drop the protesters as well as the police. 2 people on the ground sneezing, puking, and itching like crazy is still better than 2 people clubbing eachother. Plus I’m all about the calling mortar strikes on myself if necessary (here’s hoping I never get the chance).

  14. MD 20 20 says:

It’s Seoul, South Korea. It says “Police” in Korean on the shields.

  15. mrshooah says:

    Kinda reminds me of a flower… Awww… Pretty :)

  16. JaX says:

This was taken in Seoul, South Korea earlier this summer, during an Anti-US Beef protest around the Gwanghwanum area. Several policemen were injured and required hospitalization.

  17. asm says:

The guys in the middle are traders on the floor of the NYSE…saw it on
    CNN…I can’t believe I watch this stuff… I need a life….

  18. lewlsprtaz says:

    SPARTAAAANS, PUSH!

  19. mia_the_feline says:

Now we see the violence inherent in the system! ;)
