Ha ha…ha…
*cough*
turn your head
if you stick a spoon into a seizing person’s mouth, it kills them because they choke on their own tongue.
You’re a moron.
Different kind of freedom I suppose. I’m free to not be hated by most of the western world.
You must be Canadian.
Zing!
Da dum ching!
a-HA!!
LOL
And you must be an arrogant American to pass a comment like that
Is that the USA or Bin Laden you’re talking about?
Because right now, the USA is pretty much up there as well in terms of being hated by the rest of the western world (and indeed…the world).
Well, there’s a bit of a difference between how much I loathe people who launch an unspected and unprovoked attack on innocent civilians, and how much I hate Bin Laden.
Well said, well said.
win
Too true. In fact, the USA is hated by some of its own citizens. Such as me. I hate being American and I’m taking the first chance I get to immigrate to Ireland.
Which bit? The part that still has para-militaries now running the drugs or the part that has the cross Irish Sea abortion railway?
Don’t let the door hit you on the way out!
Amazing
I second this persons notion
please do.
Interesting note: Out of 17 countries polled back in June about their preferred US election winner, only one of them said McCain, while the rest gave Obama a landslide victory (more than 90% in some locations).
The one country that gave McCain greater numbers (at the time), was USA itself. But even then it was close.
Yep I saw that poll too. I am Irish, and live in England. I don’t think I’m being too brazen in stating that citizens of both these countries would dearly love to see Obama in office.
Luckily they don’t have a say..
Coming from an ex-pat?
Yep, but I still get to vote! I’m not a citizen of Australia, just a Permanent Resident. Although I don’t know why. By the time I’m entitled to Social Security it may not be there (and we’re talking just a few years from now.)
Good thing Washington didn’t listen to the plans to privatize SS, eh? Given the plans were to invest in companies like Fanny and Freddy…
Yeah, I would agree with that given the way they would probably manage it. I just love the rationale that is used to raid MY retirement entitlements.
2042 isn’t really just a “few years.”
No, but 9 is..
Holy crap Eddie, you’re OLD!!!!
He IS!!!
oooooh
why austrailia? is it nice? i’ve heard nice things, and i’ve always wanted to visit
Perhaps the greatest ‘argument’ for the UK to become the 51st state is that we would get a massive number of electoral college votes, and would have a huge say in who wins elections
True, but you should keep in mind that the majority of non-US residents (just like a significant part of US residents) have no idea about anything politcal, but just think that “it would be cool to have a black guy for president instead of some old geezer”, or something on a similar level.
maybe, but on the other hand many americans voted for Bush in the last election, because he has the same hobbies then they do. that’s better?
NASCAR
Actually, the “problem” (at least from my personal point of view, though I know it’s too strong of a word) is that Europeans and Americans just don’t think the same way. I doubt we ever will.
I’ve always believed that Europe was traumatized by the Nazi era, and they’re overcompensating with a deep-seated, reptilian brain hatred of anything even approaching American-style political conservatism. While the big, bad, Soviet Union was on their doorstep, they needed us, but they’ve always seen us like a (“badly” is the wrong word, but the closest I can think of) trained attack dog: useful when needed, but something that they don’t like having around.
The Soviet Union succeeded in conquering Europe by falling apart. Europe’s social system is closer to communism now than ever before.
I’m hesitant to throw around the “communism” word, but I think you have a good point. Europe leans very far to the left, so it’s no surprise who they’d prefer if they could vote. But your “attack dog” analogy was interesting. I think thats true to an extent, definitely. Its nice for them to be able to count on the US to do all the heavy lifting when military action is required, but the flip side of that is when the attack dog decides something is a threat all on its own and attacks it they don’t want anything to do with it.
And yet, Europeans have better health care, education, and happiness ratings than we do. Makes ya think, don’t it?
What do you mean by “better” healthcare? Do you mean more insurance coverage? I.e. “more” healthcare? Last I checked if you’ve got a serious illness and want the best doctors you still come to the U.S.
But yeah their school systems are way ahead of what we’ve got in the U.S.
As far as happiness goes, I have a theory. Studies have shown that Americans simply work too much. Americans on average work more hours per year than any other industrialized country. Even Japan comes in 2nd. Europeans on the other hand work the fewest number of hours a year.
What confuses me is how the hell do they survive over there? Just about everything costs twice as much as it does in the U.S., after accounting for conversion rates. Cars, gas, food, its all about twice as expensive. But from what little research I’ve done the pay isn’t much better, it’s actually about equal after accounting for conversion.
We are busy paying off credit cards that paid for shit we couldn’t afford.
“What do you mean by “better” healthcare? Do you mean more insurance coverage? I.e. “more” healthcare? Last I checked if you’ve got a serious illness and want the best doctors you still come to the U.S.”
Cuba has better healthcare than we do. And if you want the best you go to India. Cheaper and better.
yea, because American’s can’t use the health care, so let the foreigners make the best use of it.
Ya, I am waiting for Lolnathan’s logic to point out why we should be happy we can’t have the best healthcare but rich people from other countries can…
No, India got disgusting health care system! I live here, I know!
They will give you antibiotics for whatever you sickness are, and they
will nwver tell you, what is happening with you! Even if they ask.
So, I`m not going to doctors anymore… The best healthcare (and education also) – you will be surprised – is still in Russia.
“What do you mean by “better” healthcare? Do you mean more insurance coverage?”
These rankings are according to the World Health Organization, and they track things like universal access to health care, longevity, infant mortality and access to pre-natal care, etc. Please click my name for the latest rankings; we are 37th in the world.
I readily admit our health care is among the best in the world IF YOU HAVE THE MONEY TO GET IT; one of the big problems we have is that we run our health care for a profit instead of regarding it as a part of the commons.
As for how they live over there; Thom Hartmann reports that in Sweden (where the average person pays 40% of their income in taxes), minimum wage is $14 an hour. Housing and gas are expensive, all right, but when you can get as much education as you can successfully complete for free, free health care, and a kick ass system of public transport, you don’t need as much money. It also helps that they don’t have the drive to consume that americans have.
I also love that in Europe, a fourty hour work week is the norm, and everyone gets four weeks or more of vacation. Imagine having actual time to spend with your children, helping them with their homework! *sigh*
You are intentionally trying to depress me and I know it…
Ahhh, youth! The bliss of being young & ignorant…When “history” is some-thing that happened 4 years ago and anything older than that has no relevance. So we are “doomed to repeat what we know nothing of” over and over again, with wide-eyed innocence and naive arrogance. I’d envy you except having been there I know that it’s much better to see what’s coming. Even if it’s abysmally ugly & stupid.
Want to be prescient, like me? Read some GOOD history books on World Politics of the 20th century (maybe published in Canada, Great Btritain, Australia, since it’s very hard to get the TRUTH in the US now)…instead of getting your info from whatever talking-points you listen to while gnosching your Fruit Loops.
Study what the Real issues were in the 1950s-60s! You’ll be amazed! It was nothing at all like “That 70s Show”, or the other trash your rabid-rightie Handlers and Masters feed you through that “liberal” (Corporate!) Media myth they keep telling you about. You’ve been so robbed of real truth, history, & honest information in your lives that it’s no wonder you don’t know which end is up.
READ ORWELL’S “1984″!! If that doesn’t give you a clue or two, some
INSIGHT into the way things really are, right here right now all around you, then forget it all and go home to mommy. Orwell was the first to expose the spin…”black is white”, “up is down”, “dumb is smart”, “bad is good”, “lies are truth”……etc.
Because, baby cakes, YOUR FUTURE DEPENDS ON YOU! And to make good decisions for yourselves, YOU NEED THE TRUTH. Duhhh. You’re not getting anything close to that from ‘Big Daddy’ in the Corporate-Government or the Corporate-Media. It’s an AUTHORITARIAN mess that makes you think the way they want you to in order to CONTROL you for their own benefit & profit$.
READ NAOMI KLEIN’S “THE SHOCK DOCTRINE”"…The Rise of Disaster
Capitalism” (2007), in which she describesthe rise of “The New American
Century”, as described in the PNAC Papers (Google it), the Wing-bat Right’s plans to take over the world for the next 100 years. Sound tinfoil-hat wacko? Read it! It’s even worse than that. But it’s real & the Rovian Bushies believed every word of it.
They still believe it, regardless of it all falling down around their fuzzy old ears now. And McSame believes it, too, & is determined to keep trying to follow the program, while the ship sinks. I know you deluded Reichies out there will bristle. You’ve been drinking way too much of the psychedelic Koolade. Nor does a six-pac a day help any, bucko. Everything your Reichie bosses say & do is designed to keep them in control of You! THAT is the difference in Canada, Australia, & Europe! It didn’t work over there. Only Americans get trapped by that “macho” myth and strut around like banty roosters…with a brain of equal size. Only Americanos swallow the Authoritarian mush and think it’s true only because they want to believe it.”Big Daddy” says so and that’s good enough. Wave the flag and spout & bunch of bunkum, swig down a Bud & stick a flag on your SUV. Who “win$”? You? US? No, THEM, that’s who. The Big Daddies who’ve been sucking down all the cash and running the whole damned show while you strut around feeling all macho because they told you that if you just trusted them, they’d “win” for you. Yeah. Right. And you believed them. Probably still believe them even right now, “right or wrong”, right?
The New American Century is over, dudes. So is the old American influence. Progressive liberalism is spreading because SMART people see that is the best way to run things in the 21st Century. Except for still Deluded few, most people everywhere see that CLEAN ENERGY, SUSTAINABILITY, GOOD GOVERNMENT, RESTRAINED FINANCES, GOOD EDUCATION & GOOD ECONOMY, JUSTICE & LIBERTY FOR ALL TO SHARE IN THE BENEFITS OF SMART SOCIETY…is the way to benefit most of the people most of the time. INSTEAD OF MAXIMUM BENEFITS & PROFIT4 FOR THE VERY FEW AT THE EXPENSE OF THE MASSES. Which has been the neoCONS game.
And they all of who FOLLOWED them like puppy dogs, licking their hands when they threw you scraps.
BRAIN POWER is what humans are all about, dudes! Without that, we’re failed apes! You’ve got EXERCISE YOUR BRAIN to make it strong and supple! You’ve got to READ & STUDY, most of all….and not just stuff on TV or the web. You don’t get anything but propaganda on one and 90% of the other is just brats like who scan a bunch of talking points into their fuzzy gray-matter and spout it back & forth thinking it soooo “smart”! Hah! Monkeys are smarter than that. They learn not to be so gullible and trusting, lest somebody eat them. You could learn from that, too.
And you’d better learn that & fast…because if the Reichies get into power AGAIN in the US…you WILL get eaten, my sweeties! The Rovians Reichies will chew you up and spit out your bones like jackles chewing up rabbits…rabbits sitting wide-eyed & unbelieving while the jackals tear them apart.
If black is white, then aren’t the racists voting for Obama?
And yet were the ones that got dragged into the mess your government
created (IRAQ), and now were paying for that and more of your governments
problems (The financial crisis). Funny how it all works aye?
You have got to be kidding. I spend a lot of time in Europe (mostly the Benelux and Germany) and just about anybody I encounter knows more about US politics than a large portion of the actual, honest-to-God American citizens that I share a town with.
I do think Europeans have a different approach to politics. In Europe, if something doesn’t go as the ‘public’ wants, they clamor for change, even let the government crash and burn if need be. And there’ll be much rejoicing in the streets. Americans (including myself, actually) seem to want to wait it out. It can’t stay bad forever, right? And you know what you have, and not what you’ll get.
You know why? Because the people in these countries don’t like the U.S. The other questions in that poll showed that, as well as they don’t like us cause we’re too strong, they would like us to become weak….and the next one, who should win? Makes ya think…
No, but you’re free to be the laughing stock of the eastern world
Probably
You are Canadian? Cool. I wish I was Canadian. But no, I ended up an American instead. >:|
And to think that my parents came THIS close to giving up American citizenship and moving to Canada after they married. -holds index and thumb half an inch apart-
*sob*
If he’s talking to a Middle Eastern woman, the answer is no.
It would depend on your definitions of freedom.
One the one side of that statement is the determination of which group of women (American, Middle Eastern) is exploited more; on the other is the Janis Joplin sentiment: “Freedom’s just another word for nothing left to lose.”
Well for Janis Joplin getting stoned had a whole other meaning, that ought to tell you something.
Actually Kris Kristofferson said that. Janis just made him lots of money by singing it.
Pretty damning lol, actually. Still, I’m as free a man as I ever was. If anybody thinks the government wasn’t all about invading our privacy prior to the patriot act, they’re fooling themselves. Bush just went about it in his usual clumsy way. Any other president would’ve used some lube first, but not him, the bastard.
Damn, I’m feeling cynical today. I bet tonight’s debate will cheer me up, though.
I’ll still mostly free and he’s still all dead.
Do we have proof of this dead-ness? I have not seen it so please link me if you have it.
Where’s the proof that he’s alive though? When was his last video taped taunting? Osama was not a healthy man, I suspect he either died of natural causes, or in some manner that his cohorts were able to conceal his death.
This long without a word from his smug terrorist ass? Meh. He’s dead.
I prefer confirmation rather than assumption over this. Laying low comes to mind. He hasn’t exactly won enough to taunt about. You can assume he is dead if you like. I will wait for proof either way.
I read from a non-US source some years ago that he died of “natural causes” and is buried in Pakistan in an unmarked grave. I assumed few believe this official story, based on the off-hand and non-conspiratorial manner in which Benezir Bhutto described Omar Shiekh to British journalist M(ark?) Frost as “the man who assassinated Osama bin Laden”.
Well that is mighty interesting.
???
*face palm* – I hate it when the enemy is right…
Not till about January. Then our government might actually care that you exist again and hopefully those roles will reverse.
damn, this is a pretty good lolterrorists, all the righties in here got pretty offended
I will be unless Obama is elected. Then you’ll be free to just walk across the border and kill as many of us as you want.
hahahaha, best joke ever.
That wasn’t a joke. With Obama’s past, I am absolutely sure that he would do absolutely nothing to keep this country safe.
Better move to Canada, zomg!
too far.
You went there.
Yeah, I’m still free. And haven’t seen any of your buddies doing much of anything around here for about 7 years now. Why attack civilians in America when you can attack service members in Iraq and simultaneously cause unrest here? Quite a tempting deal for a terrorist. Iraq was never about anything except providing you something for you to shoot at that was more appealing than American civilians. Lucky for us, we have American GIs willing to take the sacrifice and leaders left to make the tough decisions. Well, at least until we leave. Then you won’t have your juicy target, and we’ll be seeing you over here again, won’t we? Even if you were captured it would be someone else, the resurrection to your martyr. Some people think the next round of attacks will be revenge for Iraq, but that’s sheer ignorance. Your organization has been attacking us for nearly two decades now, since the planning of ’93 WTC bombing, so I doubt you ever had any plans to slow down, with or without Iraq and Afghanistan. When we leave Iraq, remind me not to work in a skyscraper anymore.
tl;dr
Did anybody else see that special on NBC Sunday about how close the army got to Bin Laden’s Pakistani stronghold? Show was awesome.
Unfortunately close only counts in horseshoes and handgrenades..
Not close enough then, because I’m fairly certain they had hand grenades with them.
Missiles then?
Nuke it from orbit.
Only way to be sure.
And limits. Don’t forget calculus.
I like the other lol better where he’s saying “This is some good sh*t, homie!” or something.
It was certainly funnier!
Is Osama free to carry liquid containers larger than 3 oz. onto a plane? Because goddamn am I sick of that pointless TSA regulation.
He’s not free at all, unless he’s dead of course.
Spoken like someone who has truly given up their liberties for security. Just because you no longer have the freedom you desire doesn’t mean that is has since ceased to exist. He most likely succeeded in his goals, what about you?
Um, I haven’t given up any liberties that I know of. Not sure what you’re talking about.
Hypothetically, would you be okay with the govt going through your email, financial records, library records, etc. all in the name of looking for terrorists?
I really wouldn’t mind it if they had good reason, and I think they need good reason to do it, they can’t just search everyone at random.
That’s just it, though – there were legal channels for that type of surveillance when there was “good reason” for it, but the current administration had to go for the power grab and widened those laws so that it’s pretty much the case that they can now crawl up anyone’s kiester with the proverbial microscope and wire brush at any time for any reason
Excuse me, but those legal channels are still in place for 99.9999999999999999% of the American people. You still need a warrant to search someone’s home, tap his phone or go through his email. It’s only those suspected of terrorist activity (not just ties, but actual activity) who are subject to warrantless searches.
You might want to try brushing up on the details before you start throwing around the ACLU talking points.
Considering the names on the terrorist lists, who is coming up with these “good reasons” I wonder?
That’s only because some G-1 typist in some dark cubicle inside the Beltway didn’t bother to include descriptions with the names.
It’s happened before and it’ll happen again.
Oh I feel REAL safe now…
I would never be comfortable giving that level of intrusion to the government due to its past history of corruption and mislabeling people as troublemakers and terrorist suspects.
-Excuse me, but those legal channels are still in place for 99.9999999999999999% of the American people.-
Man, I’d hate to be one of those three-ten-billionths of a person. Somewhere out there are 12 flakes of dandruff which must be stopped, whatever the cost.
“You still need a warrant to search someone’s home, tap his phone or go through his email”
That is simply not true. All it takes is for law enforcement to *claim* they have a reason to investigate you; their warrant will follow. They don’t have to show just cause or spell out what they’re looking for or where they want to look for it. There is no power held by anyone to oversee these warrants and be certain they are not being used in an abusive way.
And you want to hand that power over to Obama?
I know I don’t want “Troopergate” Palin to have access to that power!
And everyone seems to have forgotten their history. This is the FOURTH time such laws have been in place in the United States, in some form. The first was during the Civil War, when Abraham Lincoln suspended the Writ of Habeus Corpus; the second and third were during the World Wars (does the term “Internment Camp” mean anything to you?), and history (not just American) is festooned with such measures during time of war or national crisis, yet humanity has survived and largely prospered. Terrorism, when one looks back through history, is nothing new, nor are the methods used to combat it.
I made a post on the same subject in that “abolish the bill of rights” lol. I think a lot of this really is people not being able to see the big picture. I don’t know if its because they slept through U.S. History, or what. Many people, understandably, think this is a new and unique situation since it hasn’t happened in their lifetime. All that is different is how the actual war is fought. The threat is the same, and the domestic security changes are actually far more relaxed and tame compared to what we did during the World Wars.
Ah but the internment camps did nothing, I don’t recall the suspension of Habeus Corpus ever doing any good… So what you are saying is because we are too ignorant to learn from history, we should constantly repeat it?
I also don’t call our state right now, Prosperous.
Read it again. If you’ve noticed we don’t have internment camps, and Arab Americans aren’t being locked away by the thousands simply for being Arab Americans, or having their right to own land abolished, or being relocated away from critical U.S. facilities. I think thats one mistake we’ve definitely learned from.
Yeah, so it’s okay to repeat decisions that were ethically questionable at best just because of this vague “humanity has survived and largely prospered”?
If we go down the path of suspending rights and drumming up fear in the name of The War Against Terror (acronym?) then the terrorists have succeeded.
They will succeed one way or the other if we do nothing. What’s the answer?
Where did I encourage doing nothing?
You didn’t, but you don’t seem to happy with what we are doing which does seem to be working.
Middle ground fail!
Well, isn’t the middle ground what we were doing before we were attacked? Not sure we can go back to that just yet.
just remember, Hitler came to power with emergency powers in a time of crisis. The reason the founding fathers put checks in place is because the didn’t trust the government, and having worked for it and having seen this administration in action, i still agree with their assessment.
Yeah, you should really read up on current wiretap law before making sweeping generalizations like that. Just because you heard it on Digg or Infowars doesnt mean its true. There are still approval processes for wiretaps, even “emergency wiretaps.” The stink of the law is that the “emergency wiretaps” only need to be approved by one person, and they have 30 days after the wiretap to justify it. Luckily, this has only been used a handful of times since the Patriot Act, and is in no way associated with the wiretapping that went on with the Phone companies. The people associated with that straight up broke the law, and they will face judgment in the near future.
Hell’s belle’s, I don’t care even if they don’t have a good reason. I’m not ashamed of my life. They want to waste their time looking through all the crap on my desk, they’re welcome. Heck, maybe it’ll finally be organized when they’re finished. I just feel sorry for the poor FBI shmuck that has to read all the sappy email to my girlfriend. That’d get old fast.
Now, them actually changing how I choose to live my life, telling me I have to keep organized one way or another, limiting what I can write, where I can work and bank, that kind of thing? That’d get my ire up. But looking around? p’shaw.
ema is right. Despite whatever legal ability you think they may have to search through your crap, or wiretap you, or whatever else, they are still dealing with limited time and limited resources and aren’t going to waste it spying on Joe Average American whom they have no reason to suspect of anything.
Yeah, maybe some innocent people who were just in the wrong place at the wrong time are going to be snooped on, but its not a rampant problem and I think its a pretty minor trade off for faster reaction to possible terrorist planning.
The government has nothing to gain by screwing with honest, innocent Americans. Theres one thing about the government you can _always_ trust. And that’s the desire to do whats in its own best interest. Yeah, they are totally willing to screw the people, but only if it benefits them in some way. Tieing up resources on John Smith from Wichita who owns a farm and has seven horses probably isn’t high on their “Oppression To-Do List”
Political and economic revenge… It’s a lot easier to find out what kind of illegal stuff your enemy is up to when you’ve got a US Senator in your pocket. Then you catch him in the act, he goes to jail or is publicly humiliated and you’re left to your own. It’s kind of like the Troopergate scandal but on a much more national and accessible level.
“Troopergate”? *sigh*
How do you know who the government spies on if there’s no documentation?
“Quis custodiet ipsos custodes”
“WHO WATCHES THE WATCHERS?”
Why yes; yes, I am; and soon *I’ll* be living in a cave, too!
hmm (↑ ↑ clicky) i can’t lay claim to the original version of this either but it is funny that when i made this a few months ago, it didn’t go anywhere
Probably because they don’t like putting the same picture up within a short time period.
Thats a epic burn lmao
So if we ship all the liberals to caves in Afghanistan to suffer and starve while being hunted by the most powerful military on the planet, everyone will be happy. They’ll be free, and we won’t have to listen to anymore crying. Score!
Yet I see more conservative whining on this site than I ever do liberal. I sometimes wonder if us moderates/independents are some of the last sane people left…
Wow! talking about hitting the nail on the head! Nice!
http://www.anonweb.eu.tc
Ok,seriously? Who here exactly has had their mail looked at by the government? Who among you has been woken in the night by some warrantless search boogeyman? Go on, tell us all about it. If you want a lesson in American freedoms, watch a British criminal trial. Go see what life is like under a communist dictator like Hugo Chavez where people disappear in the street and are never heard from again. Go to tribal Pakistan where the great free Osama is probably hiding and witness a ritual murder against some poor girl who dares go out with someone her father doesnt approve.
This isnt a LOL. This is probably one of the most retarded statements I have ever heard. This site is supposed to be about having fun at politicians expense, and getting a laugh out of it. This caption is just disgusting.
Google “national security letter.” If someone had their mail looked at by the government, or if someone were awakened by “some warrantless search boogeyman,” it would in fact be ILLEGAL for them to talk to ANYONE (including a lawyer) about what happened.
My rights were violated and all I got was this detainment…
If McCain has “known” where Bin Laden is and how to get him for a year and done NOTHING about it … doesn’t that make him a traitor?
Yes.
ZZZING!
ESAD, Osama
What an evil person
Not any more…
*ahem* Yes, I’m still free. You, however, are fish food.
