Admiral Sir John – Actually that is a state thing. In some states write-ins are only allowed under certain conditions. e.g., a candidate has to announce he’s running as a write-in X number of weeks in advance. (Voting system fail)

also, the reason that it was at record highs in 2006 is because all of that irresponsibly lent money was propping up the economy, creating a bubble that had no basis in the real value of the economy and set us up for the disaster that we’re seeing now. You can’t send good jobs overseas and give everyone poorly paying jobs in the service industry and expect them to be able to afford the standard of living they had in a manufacturing based economy. The only way that people were able to afford homes was through bad lending. I hope now that you can see that this situation is actually quite complicated and we’ve been setting ourselves up for it for quite a while.

That actually makes no sense. The reason the economy is skrewed up plain and simple is Bush’s deregulation. It just took a few years for the affects of irresponsible lending practices to take their toll. The way that sub-prime mortgages are structured, people can pay them for the first few years. After that the rates sky rocket and they are foreclosed on. A newly elected democratic congress could not have caused the deep seeded problems that you see in the economy now. It’s a complete misunderstanding of the situation and its severity to believe that that’s possible. Like it or not, irresponsible, deregulated lending practices got us where we are now and it’s gonna be while before we can pull out of it, just like it took us a while to get here.

If you write in Hillary thats a vote for McCain basically….Obama and Hillary represent and beleive in the same democratic values…You should still support your number one choice and follow her work in the US Senate , but where we’re at right now I think voting for Obama will do the most good for our country going forward

You are not the only one who is saddened by that. I explain that to people all the time. I think the problem lies with the people’s interest in politics and how well they are educated on the topic. I was sitting in my POLS class the other day and the prof asked how many people knew who our state senators were, myself plus two were the only ones… SENATORS for crying out loud!

Funny how the economy level was setting record highs until the Democrats took over Congress in 2006. Don’t forget the President’s position is mainly a figurehead and voice of the Nation. The real power is in Congress. You have a problem with the way things are going? Blame Congress first. They are the ones with their own agendas. They are the ones that tack on “give Congress members raises” sections onto unrelated bills. Funny thing is – technically they are employees of the American public – not out leaders. Somehow the general population has forgotten that. Makes me sad.

Nowhere is that first statement more true than here in Chautauqua County, New York. The place is festooned with Obama signs, and there is an Obama office right down the street from me, but there is not one McCain sign anywhere in this entire county, nor is there a Republican campaign office.

I don’t know why everyone is blaming Bush for a bad economy. Where I live, the last eight years have been great! There is a building boom the likes of which hasn’t been seen in this town for close to 40 years. The local economy was crap under Clinton, and really crap under Carter (whose policies have been copied near verbatim by Obama). That’s why I keep saying if Obama wins, it’ll be welcome back to the 1970′s.

Funny story: the EPA puts a dollar value on human life. That way they can make a firm comparison on whether any given regulation will cost more money than the value of the people it saves. New reg saves seventy five million in human death per year but costs one hundred million per? No way!

So anyway, this value was reduced this year by about 15%. Doesn’t make me happy.
