Tires, most modern plastics and many synthetic fabrics are made from petro products. I leave it as an exercise to you to use Google to find more uses for petrochemicals. There are many.

There are, in fact, oil-fired electric plants, though I doubt there are many. However, I believe that some coal-fired plants may be able to use oil as a backup. (I could check that with a friend who works for a major power utility company if you like.)

Finally, he ‘pushes’ nukes because they makes good sense. They are efficient, clean, and use extremely small amounts of fuel (in volume, compared to trainloads of coal).
