I just don’t much like the concept of royalty, nothing against the individual people though.
Elizabeth has been queen for more than half of Australia’s history. Australia doesn’t need her, and about half of Australia doesn’t want her. I’d wager that more than half of Australia doesn’t want her successor.

I totally agree about SF being the prettier of the two. I don’t think Diana’s appeal was just her looks, though. She seemed like a truly gracious person and someone who just wanted to make the world a better place. That’s what made her beautiful in a lot of people’s eyes. The hair though, woof!

Yeah, I don’t think she’s horrible looking either, but then, I never thought Diana was as beautiful as everyone made her out to be. I realize it was the 80′s, but she had some helmet hair I could never get around. I always thought Sarah Ferguson was the prettier royal in law.

I think royalty can pick pretty much whoever they want as successor, where you get into problems is if after Elizabeth dies if Charles suddenly wants to make a claim to the throne then you have a battle over what the wishes of the previous monarch are as opposed to someone who is technically crown prince. I think in this situation if Elizabeth DID name William her sucessor, she probably discussed it with Charles first so that wouldn’t happen. Also, that may have been a condition in allowing Charles to marry Camilla is that he not assume the throne but instead leaves it up to William.
