  1. wundawomun says:

Pretty much, but it still didn’t make me LOL.

  2. Ev says:

    I lol’d.

  3. rhorho says:

    I LOLed

  4. cretarta says:

    LMAO!!!!

    Epic WIN!!!!

  5. Muffles says:

I lol’d. I’d be more supportive of his decision if the reasons he gave weren’t so lame.

    • Aaryck says:

Yeah, the republicans manufacturing Islamophobia to scare up votes and a undeniably incompetent Vice President pick are really lame reasons, huh?

It’s painfully obvious you didn’t watch his endorsement.

      • Scott says:

But it came from a guy who actually served in Bush’s administration – That’d be the candidate who slurred McCain in SC with rumous that McCain had fathered an illegitimate black baby using robo calls.

If you don’t like robo calls then sure, don’t support candidates who use them but don’t support and and not the other when there is no difference in that regard.

To some neutrals it just looked like he thought “hey there’s a black guy on the ballot” what reason can I find not to support the white guy from my party? Oh yeah, robo calls!

        • Scott says:

Not just robo calls but also these supposed “scare tactics” – Classic strategy, not limited to any one campaign.

McCain – Obama increases the likelihood of Terrorism, run!
Obama – McCain increases the likelihood you’ll lose your house, run!
Kerry – Bush will go to war with everyone, run!
Bush – Kerry will diminish our national security, run!

It happens, deal with it, don’t use it as an excuse to hide your real reasons for picking candidates.

          • What are you talking about?

          • Chris says:

So what exactly do you think is his “real reason” for endorsing Obama?

          • minerva146 says:

Obama only says McCain will continue the fiscal policies of W. Not the same thing as trying to inspire fear.

            • Maxwell Silverhammer says:

I guess that was a Freudian slip on his part then… kind of admitting Bush’s
policies will run you out of your homes.

And from a NC perspective, I have YET to hear a democratic add thats not
based in the positive. Asking folks to vote, look into the issues, and calling out
everyone to make sure the change they vote for is the change they need.
The republican ads? Vote for McCain as if your gun rights depended on them….. because they DO! Dun Dun DUUUUUUUUUN!

              • minerva146 says:

Yeah, I guess from a particular mindset, some of the ads could be seen as negative. They remind you that McCain is no improvement on W. But I agree that mainly they’ve been focused on the issues. The comparison of McCain to Bush is relevant. I didn’t think they were negative, especially when compared to the fear based ones McCain’s been airing.

                • ck says:

I’ve received 3 robo calls from McCain’s camp and every single one has started with “Hi I’m XXX from the McCain campaign. Did you know that Obama made bombs at terrorist house parties/wants all your money/eats aborted babies?”
Not talking about the issues, you’re doing it right!

              • Mac says:

Here in GA both sides are negative…

        • ck says:

If it was just “hey there’s a black guy on the ballot”, how come he didn’t endorse other black men running for political positions? Sharpton and Keyes come to mind.

          • Obama says:

            Because no one likes them.

            • froofrou says:

I liked Keyes. Sharpton is just a nut.

              • MacEnvy says:

Keyes is even more of a nut than Sharpton. Keyes believes the US should
be a Christian theocracy. It’s as unAmerican and anti-Constitution as
                you can get.

                • froofrou says:

It’s an opinion. I’m entitiled to mine, and you to yours. I like Keyes because he seems like less of an instigator than Sharpton, who screams racism and discrimination every chance he gets.

                  • PortlandMark says:

Keyes = Uncle Tom. Or possibly Uncle Ruckus.

                    • Obama says:

                      Wow, racist.

                    • x-bert says:

Well… zippity doo da to you too!

                    • Xtasy says:

Yeah- All Black Republicans are “Uncle Toms”. The only “Real” Blacks are Democrats, right?

                      • shinobi says:

and look where its gotten them LOL … there still predominantly in the same place they were 20 years ago only there are more of them on tv and in movies and on the radio now… yay. They keep voting democrat because they believe the BS that the dem’s say about feeling their pain and working for the little guy. Then they turn around and keep them right where they are so that they will vote for the democrat again in the next election.. its a new kind of slavery… slavery to uncle sam’s wallet. Thats all it is in the end… and we are all going to end up there if people keep voting for abstract policy ideas like “change”… Yeah change… the only kind of money you’ll have if obama has his way.

                  • Curia says:

Keyes is a serious @ss-wipe who pissed and moaned about how Hilary Clinton was a carpet bagger for running for senate in New York, then pulled the same crap and ran in Illinois a few years back

No one actually likes him. I don’t think he got any votes from non yellow-dog repubs.

          • Josh says:

CK – Well Sharpton is VERY left winged and he’s a moron.

Alan Keyes is VERY right winged, socially dark ages, and is also a moron.

            Does that answer your question?

          • gnn1 says:

AND how come he didn’t endorse Obama sooner if it was all about race

        • bittervoter says:

If you’d watched his endorsement you’d have seen he responded in advance to those who said he was endorsing another black man “if that was the case, I could have made this endorsement months ago”.
He talked at length about each candidate’s handling of the economy, and their temperments throughout the campaign. Huge factors for him that no one here seems to has mentioned.

      • shinobi says:

do you honestly believe that and if so what person taught you that so I can stab them for ruining a perfectly good young mind?

His endorsement was all about race and hes never been a real republican. He just calls himself one because republicans put him in every position hes had. Hes pro abortion and pro affirmative action and im not sure but I think hes also for raising taxes on the wealthy… that spells liberal anyway you cut it. All of us saw his endorsement of obama coming a mile away and have really never given it much though but if it means that much to you…. aww rats a well known “republican” is endorsing obama. Now do you feel better?

        • Maxwell Silverhammer says:

Wow… dude.. you’re so full of hatred and rancor.. I feel like I should apologize
for pissing in your cheerios…. and I only piss in wheaties!

        • bittervoter says:

Newsflash, the republican party has not always been an anti-abortion, anti-affirmative action party. The republican party’s co-opting by the right wing has been a relatively recent thing. I thank my lucky stars that I know fiscally conservative, socially open-minded republicans that don’t think the government has the right to legislate morality, and think our foreign policy has been wrong-headed for years.

    • DW says:

What was lame about them? Or did you NOT watch the interview?

    • Jamieteevee says:

      Muffles….

What do you have against eloquent and concise statements made by African Americans? How did you feel about Palin’s defense of her wardrobe budget? Was that the opposite of “lame”? How about any of McCain’s positions on Obama’s Muslim terrorist leanings (there have been a few and they have been varied).

  6. n8 says:

I was discussing politics with a co-worker today… mused that it wouldn’t be all that surprising if Colin Powell, Chris Buckley, and other like-minded souls split off a new Conservative party that wouldn’t be held hostage by religious crazies. Such a party might draw some heavyweight converts, Lieberman and H. Clinton come immediately to mind.
In any case, a battle for the heart and soul of the Republican party seems imminent. I’ll be watching, with popcorn.

  7. Powell says:

    My bro-ther !

  8. yen says:

Wouldn’t that make him some kind of a, you know, MAVERICK?

    • Don’t get all maverick on us now…not unless you buy the special maverick glasses that cost millions of dollars and are made in Japan!

    • Uncle Fester says:

It makes him a steer that refuses to drink pissed in, shat in, muddy water?

If that were the case then he’d not be in politics at all, since you have to claim the bodily excretions of the party taste just fine… no matter what side you favour.

Oh and that ass tastes lovely…

  9. Noonsa says:

That’s a very strange picture!! I dont remember him looking quite so… bulbous! o.O
That pic belongs in the fail blog.

  10. The key to this is the significance of McCain’s failure to gain the support of reasonable Republicans, an indicator that he does not represent mainstream conservative values…he gave them up when he allowed the extreme right to buy his soul.

    • n8 says:

But what constitutes mainstream Republicanism? The Republican party is a house divided, with fundies on one side and fiscals on the other.

      • Ev says:

Don’t forget about *Constitutional* Republicans (I know a few of those).

        • Uncle Fester says:

I thought they’d mostly gone libertarian.

          • Uncle Fester says:

as an addendum, I think they’re a dying breed, which is sad.

although it does mean they tacitly support the electoral college’s short comings insofar and 29 states don’t enforce the college voting with vox populi in the state.

  11. minerva146 says:

Here’s another entertaining and somewhat unexpected endorsement. Click my name.

  12. Musicmom870 says:

I thought this was big, but Junior Johnson??

  13. Dylan H says:

Eh, I bet he’s still keen on getting angry with South America and Iran whilst delivering threats to both.

  14. Koki Kariya says:

Colin Powell really isn’t a politician though. I mean this is a man who had strong enough convictions to spend hours trying to talk Bush out of war with Iraq which, *suprise*, Bush didn’t listen to. The Bush White House then forced him out of office and replaced him with a puppet. He has every right to endorce someone who doesn’t want to keep going blindly toward failure and reassess what we need to do with Iraq.

    • Miner says:

Powell is a consumate General who learned to play politics a long time ago to survive. Like most top military, he got where he is by kissing rears, sucking up and sticking to who he thinks will help him the most. I’m not surprised at all. And that’s not counting the race factor.

      • Miner says:

I guess this means he’s no longer an”Uncle Tom” that the left has been calling him for years ?

        • Charlie Foxtrot says:

I guess that you have no idea what constituties leadership, or anything else — I suppose that you never agreed with President Bush when he said that we should listen to the generals (when it was convenient for Pres Bush), or i bet you never posted anything backing Gen Petraes — no, Bob, you are still wrong.

      • froofrou says:

Wow. You’re an idiot, and I don’t even like Powell all that much. Shut up.

      • Ceefax says:

Wow, wasn’t that long ago GOPites were saying “I’d love a black president, but not Obama – someone like Colin Powell!” Now of course the fact he doesn’t toe the line of neo-conservatism or political christianity people are willing to slander him and, by extention the rest of the military, by implying you can easily become a decorated and respected war hearo just by toadying and shirking your duties (Remember when they had the problem of someone runnign against them who had purple hearts and they suddenly decided that purple hearts were thrown around like candy at a parade for anyone who grazed their shin? Dispicable. Republicans need to reclaim their party from neo-con evangelicals before they becoem completely unelectable)

  15. Captain Weiner says:

    I LOL’d

  16. kiwano says:

shouldn’t that be “ur” instead of “your” and “endorsin” instead of “endorsing”? just what the hell kind of lolcolin is this?

(and on top of that, I thought that Powell was a neutral, and scored his Cabinet seat less for party affliliation and more as a means to build bridges to Democrats after a contentious 2000 election–you know, being neutral, black, and having obvious experience and demonstrated competence in senior government positions–after all, I did hear plenty of comments from Democrats to the effect of “at least Bush picked a good Secretary of State” back when Powell held the post)

  17. Charlie Foxtrot says:

No, SGT, you are the turncoat. Your post demonstrates one of two things…a. you are not a SGT, or b. You betray your duty to respect and defend all American’s rights to express their opinions. I see that your loyality is not to the Constitution, but to some moronic political party. YOU HAVE NO HONOR!

  18. gnn1 says:

Why does it matter who made him? ‘To thine OWN SELF be true” and all that. He’s doing what he believes is right. It means he cares more for the preservation of this COUNTRY than he cares for partisan BS. THAT is what makes a good officer. Not blind loyalty.

  19. gnep says:

poor bush, he lost his colin. at least he still has his dick.
