Hey, identifying myself as a Korean-American woman helped me when it came to getting money for college and I’m poor, so every little bit helps. Plus, people just like to lump people into categories. If it isn’t by raqce, it’ll be by something else – that’s just the way it is.

Personally, I don’t think you should be able to claim a certain nationality for as long as this county allows it (according to the current laws, my grandchildren will still be able to call themselves Korean even no further Korean blood is introduced), but as long as you can point to one person from your own personal bloodline who was alive at the same time as yourself and who is 100% of whatever it is you are trying to claim – I have no problem with people calling themselves whatever minority they want.

It might sound close-minded and stereotypical ‘Southern’, but, for the most part, I think the only reason people struggle so hard to get claimed as a minority is to get some sort of monetary reward out of it. I mean, like I said before, I cashed in on my Korean blood…

I’m sure there were some people who voted for Obama solely based on his race, but I can guarantee you there were plenty of people who voted for McCain based on his race. We are so quick to judge racial issues in this election against any black people, but we apparently forgot about all of the racist bigots who still belong to the KKK. Let’s not deny the fact that there are still many white supremacists living in this country. Whether you hear about them anymore or not, they are still there.

Sure SOME people voted for Obama because he’s half-black, but I really doubt that more than half the country voted for him just because of that.

If you want to talk about people voting with no knowledge of the candidates, don’t make arguments based on only Obama and his race. There are plenty of people who voted for McCain solely because he is a republican. I’m sure there are also people who voted for Obama just because he is a democrat.

The fact is, many people in this country are uneducated about the candidates, and this doesn’t happen only with young people. I’m sure there are plenty of adults who voted on a whim and knew little to nothing about either candidate.

As a country, we need to remember what America is supposed to stand for and embrace our new President-Elect, whether or not we all voted for him. We cannot move forward as a country if we can’t stand together.

Actually I used a shift key and you lack the definition of the word all. I only saw one sentence. You aren’t doing a good job of convincing me otherwise.

As for assuming joke, I usually assume that if it was funny. I assumed mental incompetence and so far it seems to stand as you think one sentence of capitalization means all in caps. If you mean otherwise, then your ability to clarify is lacking.

Unlike you, I stood up and verbally shot my professer out of the sky, and called him out for being a racist and xenophobic creep. It was entirely worth it for the reaction, even though I got an F on my next paper, every time he started on Obama, I just stood up and glared at him, and that was quite enough.

I’m OK with that. I once worked with a man (who’s now a rabbi) who said we should legalize illicit drugs (not just pot) and tax the heck out of them, regulating their use in effect. Not only would you have the savings from not fighting the war on drugs, you’d have a surplus coming in from all the added tax revenue. He was still for educating kids about risks, etc, but figured adults should be able to decide for themselves how they want to live.

I don’t know that I agree with him all the way up to heroin, etc, which is what he said (everything legal), but it’s sort of a good idea. That way people are more accountable. They would still be arrested for driving or operating heavy equipment while under influence or could be fired for being high on the job.

It’s an interesting concept in theory. Although it would destabilize the Funyons industry for a while probably.
