  1. PiMan says:

Aren’t there false advertising laws in the US?

  2. whatever! says:

Oh, please like all the other media ISN’T liberal.

    • dadadumb says:

      “All” the other media?

      • Okay, NEARLY all the other media.

At least Fox News gives BOTH sides equal time, unlike the DNC propaganda network (aka MSNBC).

        • Kaitlin says:

I wouldn’t call that equal time. I mean, they can do whatever they want with their network, but it’d be nice if they’d just own up to what it is. I flip over about once an evening and what I see is this “equal time” usually given to some hand-picked dufus or is spent in a shouting match of interruption. I mean, there’s no offense in having a conservative television station; let’s just call a spade a spade.

          • cobrajoe says:

You could argue the same with MSNBC or even CNN.

Both of those networks had people believing that Obama had already won, and now look how close it’ll be.

          • Trainwreck Chaser says:

I’ll concede that having O’riley is stupid because I don’t like him either, but I really believe that the media is biased. I’ve seen the way the cover news, I’ve watched them cover the back round of Joe the plumber more then Obama and I’m very certain that CNN, MSNBC and ABC would worship him if they felt there was a reason to.

Secondly, because these are main sources of media, anything that looks like it leans to the other side might look extreme just because it’s one out of the many that decide to be different. That one is going to stand out, even if it actually stands in the middle, it’ll look like it stands to the far right.

That being said, I do come from a city where the left has begun to destroy whats great about it, and our newspaper doing NOTHING to cover some of the issues. It’s been frustrating, i don’t think this is what life is like in other places, but I’ve seen what strong bias has done and it’s very bad.

            • jerseygirl in GA says:

This is why I will be watching the BBC’s coverage. Even Ted Koppel defected to the BBC.

The media is a product, just like any other product. They have a target audience, and they cater to that audience to keep the advertising dollars flowing in.

So why deal with the media when you have THE DAILY SHOW and THE COBERT REPORT!!! ;-)

          • wundawomun says:

I agree. Some people here at work keep putting on foxnews in the business lounge & it’s very annoying to have to listen to Cavuto or that chick afterward argue with people they don’t agree with. I actually shouldn’t even say argue because they yell over that person & you can’t hear what they’re trying to say. It’s ridiculous & unprofessional.

            • froofrou says:

On that note, I think that Nancy Grace should be smacked.

            • CJ says:

I watch FOX because they show videos of Dems saying things that you will never see on the Main media- shooting themselves in the foot, or getting caught in a hotel with their mistress while their wife is dying of cancer. It’s odd how those videos never get shown elsewhere.

              • Gen says:

So you’re saying, you watch FOX because they’re showing talkshow-material instead of news?
                … sounds plausible.

              • Kaitlin says:

Lol I’ll give you that. I watch the Daily Show for that same reason. The MSM really doesn’t show foot-shooting stuff like this toward either side of the spectrum, so… Moot.

                • herb says:

                  Noooooeees!! It’s a librul conspricy!!1!

Look, folks, the straight truth in this matter is the mainstream media is not left-leaning or right-leaning, but dollar-leaning. Their only loyalties have been to their stockholders. Most of the standard news stations (ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN) will pitch stories that are going to garner ratings. Close races are more watched than landslides.

When FoxNews came on the scene, Rupert Murdoch succeeded in blending journalism with punditry to the bastard result most Americans assume is what news is supposed to be. Rupie is a conservative, so he impressed a conservative agenda on the pundits. MSNBC decided to create the counter to FoxNews.

Hate to be the bucket of cold water waking people from a nice nap, but punditry has no place journalism. One is not meant to weasel one’s opinion into the news, nor is journalism intended to pander. All media is supposed to be “gotcha”. Its how we citizens are supposed to be able to check our politicians until election day.

        • Natalia says:

Yeah MSNBC IS LIBERAL BUT THEY DON’T COME OUT WITH THIS BULLSHIT LIKE FOX NEWS THAT THEY ARE FAIR AND BALANCED. LOL THAT’S REALLY PATHETIC. ALL THEY DID FROM 4 IN THE MORNING UNTIL LATE AT NIGHT WAS ATTACK OBAMA. I THOUGHT GLENN BECK AND LOU DOBBS WERE HORRIBLE, WELL COMPARED TO SEAN HANNITY AND BILL O’REILY AND ALL THOSE DUMBASSES FROM THE STUPID COUCH THEY’RE ANGELS! BUT AS YOU CAN SEE BARACK OBAMA IS OUR PRESIDENT. GOD I WISH I COULD LAUGH IN SEAN HANNITY’S FACE!

        • TRainer says:

At least Fox News gives BOTH sides equal time,…. you’re on crack, right???? Since WHEN does fox give equal time???

          • Xavier says:

Everyone once in a while, they do, when they need to bring on a leftie to talk over and interrupt.

Granted, given that definition of “fair and balanced”, MSNBC is just as bad…

    • Kaitlin says:

The Right has Fox, the left has MSNBC… and except for an arrant shift one way or another, credible news sources are pretty evenly placed. I mean, I’ve heard claims that CNN is leftist, which is RIDICULOUS. It’s also hard to tell when these claims are being made about editorial pieces or actual news reports.

I dunno. I’m beginning to get the impression that it’s not so much a matter of whether a network is “left” or “right.” I get the impression that even moderate is too liberal for those among the right who claim they are being victimized by the media. It’s a complex issue, I’ll grant, but I’m not convinced.

    • sup says:

And yet most of the media is owned by conservatives. Hmm.

    • Seth says:

It isn’t. Just because most media is to the left of “neocon wingnut” does not make it left wing.

      • Kaitlin says:

Exactly. I feel like what conservatives consider to be “unbiased” just means biased in their favor. Even moderate is too liberal, apparently.

    • forge says:

That would be the “other media” that faithfully, almost sycophantically repeats “Ayers Resko Wright Whitey Muslim Inexperienced Increase Taxes” over and over and over again while making McCain look like the Messiah?

    • Aryss says:

There are no liberal news stations in the US.

      Not one.

    • Mandi says:

Amen! I competely agree…all you liberals can have every other media outlet, let us have this one!

  3. Umm… Then why are there two DEMOCRATS on that billboard?

  4. MAJGross says:

How many commentators and politicians of all stripe have to say that only Foxnews gave fair coverage to the DNC convention to wash the koolaid out of some democrats? Even your leaders agree that Foxnews is fair and balanced.

  5. SER says:

Fox News is actually news?? From this side of the pond I just assumed it was satire. That doesn’t bode well for tonight…

    • lowly grunt says:

Well, it is satire – it just doesn’t know it is.

    • jamlayfa says:

It’s the inspiration for the Colbert Report, which IS actually satire.

      • Samantha says:

Then all the other news networks must be the satire that is the inspiration for Jon Stewart, which also is actually satire on the other side of the spectrum.

If only unbiased media actually existed any more…

        • jamlayfa says:

Pretty much since the Daily Show came first. It was an attempt to poke fun at the super serious business 24 news channels and eventually did develop a bit of a left lean. Stephen Colbert played a classic “Fox News Pundit” against Steven Correl’s classic “Liberal Media Pundit”. Eventually, Colbert was given his own show.

  6. jamlayfa says:

    CNN all the way baby

  7. teebird says:

I’m a former journalist and university journalism instructor and my take on this “fair and balanced” palaver is that it’s just a tag line used to try put all the other news sources on the defensive. It has no meaning whatever as far as the actual content of the programming.

There is no legal requirement for “equal time,” nor, as far as I’m concerned, should there be. We have multiple news sources available to us in the US and we have access to foreign sources as well, in print, broadcast and online, so we can see hear and read multiple viewpoints on important issues.

I always told my students that “fair and balanced’ is nothing but a show business slogan…what a true journalist must do is dig for and analyze the facts and present them with clarity and honesty. That transcends viewpoint and politics. So-called “liberals” and so-called “conservatives” are both capable of incisive thought and intellectual honesty even though they come to different conclusions.

    • Deek says:

The problem is that people think “objective” means “shows both sides of an issue” rather than “shows the truth.” Unfortunately, true reporting–digging in and finding out the truth–isn’t flashy or visually intense, and the American public tends to respond better to conflict and noise and soundbites.

A really good thing to remember when watching TV is that the audience is the product. When you realize that shows primarily are crafted to bring in the most viewers, rather than to show the best content, it puts lots of things into perspective.

    • Minor says:

Sure you are! A “university journalism instructor” is another name for a socialistic propaganda tool !

    • PortlandMark says:

      Well spoken. Very thoughtful.

  8. Pirate77 says:

    Stoopid liberal humor.

    • Jordan says:

Yeah. There seems to be way more of it on here than conservative humor. It’s bad marketing since there are plenty of conservatives on here waiting for anti-obama lolz

      • teebird says:

        Isn’t this user-driven content?
If so, isn’t what you see here what the users themselves create? If you so-called conservatives can’t be bothered to create content, they have no cause to complain.

        • blah says:

How exactly do we get lols we make to even show up on the voting page? I’ve made them before and submitted them but they never ever showed up for anyone to see. So they didn’t get voted on as good or bad.

        • Jordan says:

I’ve created dozens of them. I’m no comedic genius, but you can’t tell me half of these anti-Palin lolz are even close to funny. Some are just digustingly sexist and sad.

      • jules says:

They’re created and voted on by users. The anti-Obama lols either aren’t that funny, or they’re not being voted on by all those conservatives that want them.

    • Ceefax says:

Most humour probably seems stupid to you, seeing as we’ve already established in the Epoch Fail comments that you’re incapable of understanding even simple comedy techniques such as puns.

  9. Darnity says:

Ok, as far as NEWS coverage, they ARE fair and balanced. As far as TALK shows like Douchebag and Colms and O’Yelly Factor, they are horribly slanted.

  10. ck says:

Who else voted today? WOOT WOOT, HOLLA.

  11. Sig says:

    Liberal tears… it sustains me.

    • ck says:

The only liberal tears you’re going to see tonight are tears of joy…

      • Jordan says:

Don’t zip up before you’re done. You may end up pissing yourself.

        • Seth says:

My guess is it will be a landslide that leaves Democrats solidly in control of congress, a supermajority in the senate, the presidency, and a clear mandate from the people. I guess we’ll see, won’t we? Finally.

          • blah says:

A very common mistake is to assume knee-jerk voting is a “mandate” from the people. It isn’t. Often times it’s an attempt to prevent something else, not to authorize the only other option they had. I hope to God we don’t get the House, Senate, and Presidency all of one party or the other. They need to keep each other too tied up to mess up our lives.

            • blah says:

As an outrageous example to show my point: Imagaine 2 candidates, A and B. Candidate A runs on a platform of “I like eating babies”. Candidate B runs on a platform of “I like kicking babies”. If Candidate B wins in a landslide it’s not a mandate from the people that kicking babies is ok. It’s just the lesser of the two evils. But that’s *not* what the politicians or media will tell you.

            • Seth says:

We do not need an ineffective, ‘tied up’ government at this juncture. We need swift, decisive action to fix the horrible mess eight years of Bush and trickle down economics have gotten us into.

              • blah says:

If you don’t keep the government tied up, they’ll ram all sorts of stupid programs down your throat and you won’t even know about half of them. You need the second party to keep them honest. Even that doesn’t always work. If one party gets full control it’ll be pet projects out the wazoo. They might even forget they have actual work to be doing.

              • Jordan says:

                Sounds like fascism!

Screw minority rights. Screw checks and balances!

I want socialism! I want a civilian cult!

I’m right, and you’ll damn well abide by my rule!

                Dude, re-read some John Adams.

                • Jane St.Clair says:

Ummmmmm, Seth actually does want socialism. I’m not sure this is an insult to him. I’d have to check with him about the others though.

          • ck says:

And it looks like Al Franken is going to win here. Al Damn Franken. Wow.

            • blah says:

I was amused at some of the names on the ballot I hadn’t even heard of. There was even a Constitutional Party. Nice sounding name. Gonna have to see what they’re about.

              • minerva146 says:

We have one called Working Families in NY. Not sure if they are everywhere or not.

              • jules says:

It’s pretty much about what you would think it’s about: protecting the constitution.

                • jules says:

Let me rephrase, they’re for restoring the constitution.
“The Constitution Party’s third party conservative political platform is focused on restoring the Federal Government to the Constitution’s provisions..”
                  -
“The Constitution Party advocates a platform which aims to reflect the principles of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the United States, and the Bill of Rights.”

            • forge says:

I hope to God I can tune into Fox in time to hear O’Reilly say “Al Franken won his seat in the Senate” and then see his head explode.

            • PortlandMark says:

If you’re lucky enough to get him as your senator, I’ll bet you a dollar that in six years, you’ll quietly be saying, “Stupid Al Franken, always making things better so my republican candidate can’t get elected!” :)

        • PortlandMark says:

Probably not, but you’re right: too soon to start the party.

  12. Sige says:

^^^ Wow it’s ironic that my name is so similar to Sig’s.

    Thisposterdidn’tneedacaption/10

  13. ApplePie says:

The Whitey Network, now with Token Female!

  14. gnn1 says:

My ex-friend (11 years of friendship gone because of an election) tried to tell me that Fox News isn’t Right Wing. I was like ‘WUT?’

  15. blah says:

We’re gonna have to agree to disagree on this one I think. I don’t see any way a single party (either one) with no opposition will make the correct decisive actions. They’ll make actions alright. Lots of them. But with no one making them have to *think* about their choices, they’ll have the freedom to throw whatever they want up against the wall and see what sticks. To me that means a *lot* of unneccesary government action, and the government isn’t known for giving out *more* liberties. Only taking them away. And if they don’t think a decision through but just act because they can, they can do far more harm than good.

  16. eddiepscetti says:

I have had my lols on the voting page, they just got voted down. But I’m ok with that, at least I tried. But teebird is right, this site is user-driven.

    • blah says:

(In case this doesn’t nest – this is in respone to eddiepscetti.)
      .
I’ve never managed to get them to the vote page so they can be voted down (or up! 8D ). Is there something special you need to do?

      • eddiepscetti says:

Nope, nothing special. You know they make it to the voting page if you get a confirmation e-mail thanking you for the lol.
        -
On a side note, PK is obviously having issues with posting as I usually get a default for my name, e-mail, and URI but they aren’t appearing. Hope they fix that soon!

    • ema says:

It’s not 100% user driven, but I believe it is close…

      • eddiepscetti says:

Sorry, I should have qualified that by saying as far as the voting is concerned. It doesn’t always mean your lol will hit the front page, but at least we still get to vote.. :)

    • PortlandMark says:

For the record, none of mine have ever made the front page either. I’m not certain that “bias” is the only criterion for posting.

I did, however, make the coming soon page once! I sure felt like a winner that day! :)

  17. blah says:

I typed out a response but PK ate it. I’ll wait a bit to see if it comes back.

  18. lowly grunt says:

My comments are being eaten, too. Is word press hungry today????

  19. blah says:

Well, my response came back, but it refused to nest. This should be under Seth’s comment up above. And it probably will be there later knowing PK. ;P

  20. eddiepscetti says:

Seth, I don’t disagree with you about cleaning up the mess, but what blah is saying is valid. If you have every branch of government controlled by one party, you then have the possibility of having an abuse of that majority. Also, just because the Democrats think their way is the best way doesn’t necessarily make it so.

    • Seth says:

I’ll take that chance. We need a strong central government right now. What some see as abuse, I see as justice.

      • blah says:

Would you say the same if it was Republicans in charge of everything?

        • lowly grunt says:

Would you ask that question eight years ago?

          • blah says:

I’m going to assume that was an honest question, though it does sound more like a flippant put-off to me. For the record mine was an honest question as well. As to the answer:
            .
I don’t know. If I knew then what I know now, then yes. I don’t think *either* party does well when left to it’s own devices. I was still a dumb college student 8 years ago, and pretty much apolitical, so my thoughts at that point really have no bearing on anything today. Politics just didn’t seem so important back then. Not as much as a 2 a.m. hockey game. ;P

            • lowly grunt says:

Thanks for your response. I thought YOU were being flip.

              • blah says:

Nope. There’s that darn internet/type thing again. ;D I’ve just been rather introspective the last couplea days. Even came up with an interesting analogy to explain why things in Washington don’t work, then came to find out someone I’d never heard of had written a book about the almost exact thing.

        • Seth says:

Nope. Republicans believe that government doesn’t work, and every time they gain power, they prove it by screwing things up. We need solid control by people who believe that government works, which is thankfully what we are about to have.

          • blah says:

Republicans *know* how government can work, which is why they don’t trust it. And one of the big problems is the Republican rhinos that’re basically Democrats-in-disguise. It’s one thing to *say* you’re a conservative, and another entirely to act like one. One party with full control, Democrat or Republican, *will* use the opportunity to get their corrupt little plans through that’d never happen if you had both parties having to work together. What we need is new blood in Washington. One way or the other, Obama or Palin, we’ll get a little. But we need more. Especially the congressional lifers that have no clue how the real world works. Time to just vote out the incumbents and start with new, hopefully less corrupt, people of both parties.

    • PortlandMark says:

Eddie: Usually I would agree with you, but I think this country needs a few years of democratic dominance to get us out of the crises (plural?) we’re in. We can start sharing again in four, or six, or eight years, thank you. :)

  21. robinhoo says:

I laugh out loud at this billboard every time I walk down 7th Avenue. Srsly.

I trust the Associated Press, but since it disagrees with you, you will denounce it. What is says: Liberal slant, and the most balanced station was fox news.

Please, please stop posting and upvoting false pictures/captions.

  23. Noboma08 says:

just because fox is not run by a buch of commies who are completely democratic, doen’t mean it favor repulicans.

  24. Sarah Palin loves Joe the Plumber says:

I wish Bill O’Reilly would meet his maker earlier rather than later and preferably painfully.

  25. demonlak says:

add this to the fail blog…
where are the black guys??? you call that fair and balanced???????
    idiots

  26. NinjaPacman says:

    (Fox news lover, ahoy.)
Let’s be honest with ourselves. Fox is not fair and balanced.
Every woman on there who gets more than thirty seconds of airtime is a blonde.
    No, seriously.

  27. drew says:

    what a disgusting line-up of rhetoric-bashing demonspawn

  28. Mac says:

Where is my third party media network?

  29. Barak Osama says:

Yet I’m sure you all think CNN is “fair and balanced” as well. Yes Fox News is generally conservative and yes CNN is generally liberal. However, Fox News seems to stand out more to you people because every other news station is overwhelmingly liberal in nature. That’s simply how the media is nowadays and that makes it a hell of a lot harder for people with common sense (read: conservatives) to deliver a story filled with truthiness.

  30. tsfiles says:

If the hypocrisy of liberals on this issue was mass, they’d form several black holes.

Fox is SUCH a terrible network for merely permitting conservatives to speak and be heard, but networks like ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, PBS, CNBC, MSNBC, etc. are legit, objective, neutral, and are merely observing and reporting events.

Liberal Americans: The Stalinist media just completed the engineering of a presidential election. Meanwhile some still have the gall to mention Fox.

Also, to post this on election day is really without class.

  31. neelster says:

You have to work on your sweding…plus…not that funny. Now if you did something with greta and ann coulter discussing who looked and/or was more of a man then it would be hysterical.

  32. a h says:

The last thing FOX News is is a news station….

  33. kittehkat says:

OMG, YES! this is soo f*cking true! Fox News is the most biased and unfair news network in the world. look at the Fox Attacks: Barack Obama videos, and you’ll see what i mean

  34. Jay says:

I only ever watched fox news, even before I decided who I was voting for.
Unlike CNN and MSNBC they actually gave the republican party AND democratic party equal coverage.

I want to see every party answer hard questions. Not see a news organization critisized for asking them.

    • I concur! The only reason the Radical Left hates Fox News is because they *are* fair and balanced. When they’re critical, they are critical of both Democrats and Republicans. CNN, MSNBC, and the broadcast networks, only seems “fair and balanced” to those on the extreme left because CNN, et al., are also far to the left.

Okay, the talking head opinion shows may not be “fair and balanced”, but they balance the lefty drivel from CNN and MSNBC and Oprah. We don’t need to balance Bill O’Reilly. He *is* the balance for Keith Oberman. :-)

  35. billy blanks says:

its ok if fox is really right wing, this website overly compensates for it in its linberal shit

  36. I an't gettin' hate mail says:

It’s not only if your a republican it’s only if you actually pay attention to the issues and care about what happens to America!

  37. b-ronnie says:

By fair and balanced you mean that Bill O and Hannity make Nancy Grace seem like a balanced, polite commentator, than sure.
As for FOX NEWS, I watch it to see what the other side says along with MSNBC and CNN. Here’s a news flash: EVERYONE THINKS THEY’RE RIGHT!!11 I believe it all lies in the discussions and interviewing techniques that are presented every night as opposed to the shouting, interupting, downright mudslinging dickery that happens primarily on FOX.

  38. Chundermutton says:

this picture doesn’t even need a caption to be funny.
