Let’s hope he will be a good president.
Indeed. Let’s hope.
The dude isn’t even an American Citizen!!!
AND he’s more White and Arab than Black!
He’s more “manufactured” than a Disney Boy Band!
He’s isn’t much more than a Infomercial type Product that you all bought for $19.95! Wait till you find out it doesn’t perform as advertised! HA HA HA! fools
Spam troll, lol.
The people have spoken…lol…he could be an arab fromWazaristan, but that is besides the point.. America is destined for change!!
heyskwearlly bob, mccain was born in the panama canal region. the laws were changed to include him in the election. funny how that little fact was concealed.
I think you need to do a little more research on what the requirements are for being a U.S. citizen. And FYI, the laws weren’t changed for McCain.
he was born on a us military base. under the constitution that makes him a born citizen. do your research
Right on!
HE WILL BE A GREAT PRESIDENT! Most of the world can see that. Have you seen the reaction around the world? There’s no reputing that. Obama is right for the world and the world knows it.
Bush never inspired anyone to tears (well maybe except cause tears.)
The beauty of Obama’s soul is overwhelming. If you can’t see that, I feel sorry for you.
holy shit you have been brainwashed so bad dude lol. he is a marxist idiot. “the beauty of obama’s soul is overwhelming”…dude what the ef. you really need to back off on the obbsession.
At the very least the rest of the world won’t be as scared of America under Pres. Obama as they have been for the past 60 years. We might actually go 4 years without invading or bombing anyone.
Yes we has.
Yes… Isn’t it loverly? ^_^
So this is how Liberty dies… not with indignation and protest, not with resistance either violent or non-violent, but with thunderous applause.
Meolodrama. You has it.
I thought I was suppose to write the depressing stuff around here.
You have yet to write a single thing that has despressed me, my friend…
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
Woot!!!
Wait… You said work! *hiss*
I mean, yes, work, that stuff. Glad you liked my rambling story bits too.
LMAO! Yes. Yes Fuzzi duz.
And you doesn’t has it.
We lost a LOT of liberty in the past 8 years. Those who wanted to bend the laws found the perfect excuse after 9-11. Our Constitution was twisted into so many knots, we can only hope we can salvage the intent of our forefathers/mothers. I had always felt that it was too soon for Obama to be President, but when he became the official candidate, I had to back him. Especially after McCain chose Palin as his running mate. Until then I was torn between the two candidates. Last night’s speeches gave me hope. A fool’s dream, maybe, but this fool needs a dream. We ALL need a dream; a hope for a better tomorrow for us AND our children. Sorry this is boring, but the seriousness of the occasion has stolen my punniness…almost.
Shoot for the moon; even if you don’t reach it, you’ll land among the stars.
*bow*
I am done butchering perfectly lovely quotes now. ‘T went something like that anyway… lol.
As soon as Obama begins to restore that liberty, I’ll applaud. The mere presence of someone else doesn’t count, regardless of how much “hope” and “change” come along. But color me cynical that Obama will overcome bureaucratic inertia and his own appetite for power to do so.
This is the one subject Obama scares me on. He voted for the most recent FISA monstrosity; I don’t really believe he intends to surrender some of his own power.
Oh well, we can still resist that.
With Rev. Jesse looking for an excuse to castrate him? I think Obama will walk the walk, lest he sing a few octaves higher.
*sigh* Go and take your botched Star Wars quotes somewhere else. We’ll have none of that here. Liberty is far from dead. It got him there for better or for worse. He’s not some socialist Anti-Christ despite what Kool-Aid is being passed around in hick-wood. He’s a decent guy that will hopefully turn things around for us. I don’t agree with a lot of his views, but I’ll be damned if I think he’s some sort of Muslim, plane-tossing Commie. Seriously.
Your reasonable response to this makes me smile.
*McFacepalm*
No double standard about it. People have been accusing Obama supporters of “drinking the Koolaid” for many months now on this site. Accusing McCain supporters is only a recent thing.
.
And yes, you do need to explain it, because it works just fine for much of the rest of the world.
If he was a socialist, I’d be okay with that. Since he’s not, I’m going to help try to steer him a little more to the left.
You guys think anyone to the left of Atilla the Hun is a marxist; seriously, it’s sad, but a little funny.
wow if you guys want to be socialist move somewhere else. we are a DEMOCRATIC country. and he is marxist but your puny mind cant comprehend that. spreading the wealth is a marxist idea.
BU$HCO presided over the large re-distribution of wealth towards the wealthiest 10% of the population in this nation’s history. The global economy is in ruins and the war contractors and gas companies post their highest profits ever. This situation absolutely has to be corrected. If that makes me a socialist, then I guess I’m a socialist.
So when BO shafts you, will it still be Bush’s fault?
No, then it will be BO’s fault.
But until that day, I’m staying optimistic that things will get better.
…can I help you pack?
*sigh* I’m not certain which to regret more: that movie, or the fact that somebody would quote that movie. Either way, you fail.
It’s a good quote from a bad movie.
The quote would have been equally at home in the movie V for Vendetta.
Yeah but in V for Vendetta liberty was already dead and creamated.
[Citation needed.]
That post would be a little cooler if it wasn’t completely baseless. Oh, also if it wasn’t stolen from Star Wars Episode 3.
it’s only partially stolen. The actual quote: “So this is how liberty dies…with a thunderous applause.”
For quoting the worst Star Wars movie alone, you FAIL.
I hear the Austrailian outback is lovely this time of year – if you need a bedroll, I can start up a collection…
Reminds me of Amidala reacting to the senate clapping away their freedom…
hope? I has it not.
I’ve seen this before…

DR WANG TO THE COMMENT SECTION, STAT
In all seriousness, “You know who else was popular? HITLER!” is possibly the lamest argument for any position I’ve ever heard from anyone, anywhere in my entire life on earth.
ZOMG NAZIS!!!!!
Wang time indeed.
My wang flows deeper
Penetrating all Godwins
Drink of its power and wit
Lose “and wit” and you’ll have a nice haiku (senryu)
Godwin’d!!!!
You know, that’s a lovely catwalk there. Hm.
But yeah… I can only say it one more time so….
GOBAMA GOBAMA GO.
Lol…. ::doin’ my lil gobama dance in my swivel chair::
*in his best Splinter voice* You Made a Funny! HAHAHAHAAA!
Duped, they are.
Hope is a lovely thing to have, and I thank President-Elect Obama for giving us cause for it.
bullet proof glass: he has it.

not saying it’s a bad or good thing though. nut jobs will try to take him out (they try on EVERY president) but i’m worried (even though i voted for the other guy) that the attempts on him will be more thought out and more frequent.
Reminds me of how Lincoln had to plan out a path to the white house, complete with decoy look-alikes and all that jazz for his inauguration (or whichever it was).
well, if he needs a look alike he can just use any black guy, right? don’t they all look alike??
Everyone loves a celebrity. I’m amazed at how marketing is what won this election. President as product. Anyway, as for hope, I’ll be watching to see how many of those same folks can handle the wait for change. Hope is easy when you’re listening to a well-written speech designed to tug at the heart strings.
Oh, well. Congrats, President Obama.
Well, if you’re looking for change overnight, your cynicism will not be disappointed. It’s going to take a lot of work, and some time, to make some changes. But most importantly, it’s going to take a lot of Americans changing their minds about their self-centered view of the world. (Hey, I’m an american, and this place taught me that kind of ‘individualistic’ thought process from the word go.)
It’s going to take a lot of work on all our parts to make this place better. One man can’t do it alone, and he knows it.
I certainly don’t want change overnight. That’s the kind of thing that gets us into trouble. I want thoughtful, well-crafted policies and plans. Obama says he’ll “change the world” in four years and that’s what the “hopeful” crowd is expecting, not me. That’s why I fear they will be disappointed. Our culture wants everything now, now, now. Four years did not get our economy where it is today. Many decades did.
I’ll be thrilled if Obama just carefully sets groundwork for the future. It’s the sudden hipshots of “change” to satisfy a demanding/adoring public that would fan my cynicism.
Maybe if you actually listened to his speech last night you would know that he knows that as well. He knows he can’t change things over night and even referenced not being able to do it in one term.
In his speech last night, though, Obama said it would take more than one term to accomplish everything we want to achieve. He is being honest with the people – change doesn’t come easy, and we will all have to make sacrifices. It’s better than politicians who play to that “NOWNOWNOW” mentality you’re describing.

Indeed. Many don’t think about the sheer amount of time things really take. Many presidents take credit for economic successes that were actually already in motion during their predecessor’s term. Likewise with downturns. Clinton took credit for an upswing that was in it’s infancy with HW Bush and goosed it along. GW Bush didn’t actually cause the current downturn, but he sure as hell did nothing to avert, delay or dismantle it.
It’s easy to see how people think that. One can plant a seed, but the next one who comes along can either water it, give it love, and make sure the sun is on it, or they can put it in a dark place and take a dookie all over it.
Relax, identity politics have been around for years now. This election wasn’t any different. Still sucks nonetheless. Apperantly, Obama wants to do what the majority of the people also want (as in policies). But I doubt the majority of the people who actually voted for him, voted for that reason. Politics is just showbizz nowadays, not much different here in the Nederlands, just a lot more subtle. But ofcourse, the US never was subtle
Subtle we are not.
meh, this picture has it
What was DWN saying about all the pics of Obama? Oh god, I need to go wash my eyes again… rofl!
Bwahahahhaaa.. *adds another notch to the belt I will never wear*
(scans back up, takes another look at that looooong catwalk……)
*SNERK!*
Work. We’s got it cut out for us.
(Oh, and to be fair and unbiased, this is not a LOL)
No, the whole problem is that you don’t…
Okay, with a little help from DWN and PDQ, this now IS a LOL for me! But as a country we all need to help each other, those of us who got who we voted for alongside those of them who didn’t.
Well guys, I think I deserve a break from PK for a bit. It’s been fun, frustrating, enlightening, but most of all I appreciate everyone of you for keeping me on my toes. Just a quick rundown on the scores:
-
Charlie Foxtrot – Brothers in arms, mate. Always keep the faith and know above all else, you are truly a gentleman, just as the Service expects. Oooh-rah!
-
Jane – You rock girl! I have looked forward to your comments and wit.
-
ema/froofrou – Never lose hope and always stick to your guns. We may be right, we may be wrong, but we will always know that we have our integrity!
-
Seth – I have often disagreed with you, and I appreciate that you have loosened up in the last little bit. I respect your stand and hope you will always keep your wits about you.
-
Phaelin/TC/DWN – You guys are funny as hell, but you also have a lot to say that I have taken on board.
-
EP/MegaBob (or whoever you are today) – I hate to say it, but in a lot of ways I am shamed by some of the positions you have taken as supporters of McCain. You need to rethink your strategy and see if you can up with a better way of handling disagreements.
-
There’s so many more people here that have added great commentary to the site. You know who you are and know that you are respected as well. So with that, I will probably be lurking about and may even toss in a comment on occasion, but otherwise, via con Dios mi amigos y mi amigas.
Shoot, Eddie, you’re one of the reasons I started lurking this site. It won’t be half as good without you. Okay, have a life, if you must, but stop by often.
Well, if you must.
Don’t neglect us, though! Besides, the conservative arguments need your support, especially coming soon, I imagine. Always a pleasure talking/debating with you. Best of luck with that whole “life” thing.
Damn, I feel very honored and humbled by your words. This place will lose a bit of its grace without you around, my friend. Take care of yourself and try not to stay gone too long. I am not sure of my future schedule either so I sympathize.
What a loss it will be, Eddie! I have so enjoyed reading your posts. *sniff* Don’t stay away forever, I may take a bit of a break myself… You’re allowed a break!
Oh
Gonna go Lolcats on you say warm fuzzies.
Thanks eddie. I appreciate people like you.
Fine. Go. Leave us.
[presses back of wrist to forehead]
We’ll be fine. Just fine.
[sniffles into lavender scented hankie]
Erm… who are you, again?
Play nice… Dont be the guy that starts a fight at the going away party… dont be
that guy.
(Psst, just a joke. ;D)
Enjoy your break from politics. It’s a good time for one.
Until January, of course. Then come back for more!
Bye eddie. We’ll miss you.
Awwwww *hugs* we’ll miss you eddie!!! I do understand that real life intrudes, hope you come back and see us occasionally. And don’t forget, you may not be posting on PK, but you’re a member of the Logic League for life, go out into the world and make us proud!
Eddie, you’re one of the smartest men alive, and from what Ive seen here the MILITARY was lucky to have you. They had a powerhouse they should have never
let go. I enjoyed locking horns and exchanging one liners on more than one occasion.
Stay true, stay classy, and stay away from DWN’s wang. Its better that way. And on behalf of The Failcop, all citations are forgiven and expunged from your record.
Perhaps one day… you’ll join us in the service here?
Oh, and please come back and see us…. please?
The best and brightest of Pundit Kitchen are commenting in this section. Makes me proud.
What the heck? Aww man, I’ll miss you. You kept me on my toes, like all the good and principled conservatives here. It has been a true pleasure. At our best here at PK, we are living the dream our forefathers had for America, average citizens discussing how our country should be run in a free and open forum. At our worst, we are apes flinging poop, but that really wouldn’t have shocked them. I think the fact that we have managed to carve out a niche of civility in an anonymous political forum, open to all, would make them proud.
–
On a personal note, to all the conservatives who choose to some here and debate in what is obviously not a right wing echo chamber, kudos. Dissension and disagreement are good for us, as individuals and as a country. Our ideas and philosophies should always be honed through rigorous and public debate. Thank you for that opportunity, Eddie.
That was really well put Seth. And eddie, I didn’t “know” you well but we had a couple good chats, kudos for being a good sport and welcome back anytime.
I love you, eddie! Fare well in the real world, and we all hope to see you back here soon! *salute* You are a tribute
Stay plz kthxbai.
YEAH! That’s Denver, everybody.
WOO! Go Colorado!
(And Obama, too. He’s awesome as well.)
Change we don’t need:
DJIA -486.
Change you’re getting because the people of the democracy have spoken, so suck it up.
How did it feel to see your messiah, false idol and saviour of Political Christianity from all that is sensible George Dubya Bush say those words… President Obama?
When has anyone ever said that Bush was their “messiah”? You’re giving him too much credit. Everyone knows the political candidate with the real cult-like following is Obama.
Uh, you didn’t see the Jesus Camp documentary where evangelicals lined up their kids in front of a life-sized cardboard cut-out of Bush to pray?
those are called nut-jobs…. you lefties have them too.
‘Though none have worshiped Obama, prayed to him, or otherwise treated him in a messianic light.
I don’t know that those Christian nutjobs actually prayed to Bush either, they may have been praying to God in front of a cutout of Bush which is completely different. I never did see that video though but that would tend to go against Christian teachings against worshipping false idols.
Yeah, I don’t know that anyone with half a brain thinks those are anything but extremists. It WAS a creepy video though… I bet if you searched youtube for jesus camp it’d come up.
Worst part is, Colorado Springs is an hour away from Denver (give or take). I run into these types more frequently than I would like.
Yeah, ema, this is the one we we debating one other time. You should really check it out sometime if you get a chance. It’s enlightening in a rather disturbing fashion.
DJIA is up and down every day. It’s called market fluctuations. Yesterday it was up over 300 points. Today it was down based on 3rd quarter job reports, not due so much to the election… Nice try though!
—–
A report on October job cuts from outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas said employers announced plans to cut 112,884 workers last month, a 79% jump from the number of job cuts in the same month a year ago.
So far this year, employers have announced 875,974 job cuts.
“The fact that nearly three out of four industry categories are cutting more jobs is proof of how widely the impact of this downturn has spread,” John Challenger, chief executive officer of the company, said in a press release. “A year ago, job cuts were concentrated in the financial sector and home-building industries. Job cuts are now rising across the board.”
Meanwhile, a report from payroll services company ADP showed a decline of 157,000 jobs in the private sector in October — down from a revised decline of 26,000 jobs in September, and worse than economists’ expectations for 102,000 October job losses.
The Labor Department’s October jobs report comes out on Friday. Economists are expecting it to show a loss of 200,000 jobs.
(Source linked in my name)
Meaning we need a more confident look ahead.
Lucky them. I’m somewhat lacking in that department. I’m hoping Obama proves my fears wrong.
Hope, I want to have it.
It seems silly to me that so may can’t see that this President appears to actually be realistic about his goals. He has said so all along and said so in his speech last night. No one expects a magic wand to be waved and all of our issues to be resolved.
He has the job, now let’s see how it goes.
“Let’s see how it goes…” Yep, that pretty much sums up how I feel.
when all is said and done, all we can do it hope. it’s out of our hands now, the ship has set sail, and the die is cast. There’s nothing we can do now to change it. No matter who we voted for, all that is left for us to do is watch, wait, and hope.
…and get busy helping.
Thank you!! We all have a stake in what goes on in the country. It’s time people stopped watching and started doing. Step away from the TV’s, video games and computers folks. Anyone remember the ad campaign for kids that was called, “Verb?” They need to do one for adults!!
Let’s “hope” he can even bring about any of his promises with what little cash he has left… Otherwise – it’s tax time. I hope he will be one that will think outside the box and come up with other solutions before going to the tax solution. He seems pretty clever…
There are 3 basic ways of getting money for a state.
(1 – Raise taxes
(2 – cut spending
(3 – borrow it
Seeing how number 3 didn’t work out so well, I’m guessing you’ll see both 1 and 2 in the near future.
Bake sale? Let’s hope we see more of #2 and less of #1…
Seems funny that people think “Tax and Spend” is more of a maths fail than “Spend and Spend”
lol money grows on trees though, it IS paper afterall. As someone who lives in Michigan I WISH we worked out our tax system because our roads suck and we are in debt so we can’t fix them.
Actually money grows on sheep, since your money is actually made of wool.
25% linen and 75% cotton. But it’s still paper, paper doesn’t have to be made out of wood
I for one welcome our new competent overlords.
Quote WIN!
(I just like that I’m in this picture)
Welcome to the United Socialist of America. These next four years are gonna suck. Unless i quit my job so all of you people who voted for “him” to “change” the country start making more money so i can sit on my ass and not do a damn thing while he sends me your hard earned money…. thanks for the contributions!!! you guys are fools! and government run health care??? are you really serious with that mr. incumbent???? we as americans are on a the back side of the hill and sliding FAST!
a quote from prof. alexander tyler in “cycle of democracy” from 1770. -”A democracy cannot exist as a permanant form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largess from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority votes for the candidates promising them the most benefits from the public treasury.
The average age of the worlds greatest civilizations has been 200 years. These nations have progressed through this sequence: from bondage to spiritual faith to great courage; from courage to liberty; from liberty to abundance; from abundance to selfishness; from selfishness to complacency; from complacency to apathy; from apathy to dependence; from dependence back again to bondage.”
Strong words from a man who wrote this before this country was even officially founded…..
Lame. Tyler is directly ripping off Plato, and you don’t even know it. That’s just sad. Go look up “kyklos.” It’s in Plato’s “The Republic,” maybe you’ve heard of that?
that is good information. thank you for the enlightenment. i was given that little article cut out of a newspaper and have hung on to it for some time now. i did not do any research deeper than discussions with friends and family. was not trying to make enemies just putting info out there. aerostotle (sp?) and plato were around waaaaay before tyler. and after reading into this subject with help from you i see that he, tyler, did rip this idea from the aforementioned men.
Gonna take a lot more than a single decent President to restore my hope. In fact I doubt my hope and trust in this country will be restored in my lifetime. It’s just too daunting a problem for any one man to take on in 4 or 8 years. It’s a lot easier to break things than it is to fix them, and Bush had 8 years to break things, and many believe Clinton broke quite a few things too in his 8 years.
Obama isn’t going to fix it in 4 or 8, even if he does his best to come through on every promise, whicih is unlikely. (No President ever does half of what they said they were gonna do.)
I’d say that I feel Obama is a step in the right direction.
He’s definitely going to have it tough and is going to have to make some decisions that may not make everyone happy. I hope he gets all the right support and reaches out to others besides just liberal Democrats. Maybe he could unite the country a little bit. It’s still a pretty good country even with all the problems we are facing, don’t you think? Don’t lose hope!!
A “pretty good country?” Pretty good? It’s an amazing country! Hey, just because I didn’t vote for the guy doesn’t mean I’m not happy with the US. Just the fact that we always have a peaceful transfer of power is a wonderful thing. I’m proud of our country and always have been. We are far from perfect, our history is as messy as anyone else’s. But we grow and learn and change. We always have.
I don’t really place hope in my government any more than I’d place hope in the stock market. My hope lies in a completely different place. What comes will come. The majority voted for Obama. Great. God bless him and we’ll see how he does.
After all I’ve read, I have no idea what is going to happen in the next four years. Obama has his faults. So did McCain. Honestly I’m not sure how Obama is going to perform, after some of his gaffes. Then again, I don’t think I’ve ever read about a candidate who inspired 100% confidence.
Right now, all I want to see is the US getting back on track.
I’m a freaking Canadian, and you know what? I hope, too. Good luck to you, Obama, and good luck to the citizens of the USA. I don’t know where you’re going, but I hope you’re going somewhere good.
That image is Photoshopped! I a picture very similar to it back in the 1930s in Germany. They just translated the “Deutschland Erwache” signs into English, i.e., “Hope and Change”.
Skwearlly Bob i am addressing u..u really sound so sick! Are u disappointed that Barack Obama gonna be our president..I am so sorry for poor sick ass..the American people have spoken…He is our choice, he gonna be your president too and he gonna be a great president..please, visit a psychologist if this hate problem can’t just go away…you need help. Love to you dude! President Barack Obama gonna do just fine…He gonna take care of u Skywearlly Bob…He loves you too! Grow up dude…grow up! Change is a certainty….and that’s what we gonna get…a positive one of course.
peace2all
FAIL. You really think he’s gonna take care of anybody? Seriously, Obama give two shits about you or your family. Get off your high horse and open your eyes, all he’s doing is opening the door for the Muslim extremests, why support someone who terrorists have endorced and prayed to Allah to be president. I’m joining Johnny Depp in France.
No its not. Its called kidding. What you said wasn’t close to sarcasm.
You remind me of the people who call everything ironic, yet have no idea what ironic really means…
Oh, the irony!
actually bobby, seeing as how you don’t know me and therefore don’t understand the inflection that i actually would have said that in – it WAS sarcasm.
Tastes like steel.
If you were any more ironic, you’d be made of nickel.
