Tom Trifik, do you recall the Eisenhower years? Under him the top tax rate was 90 percent or taxable income. The theory was that folks who make millions a year can easily live without some of it, while those who run the elevators and serve the coffee and mop your floors cant afford as big a percentage.
The fairness in a progressive tax rate is that those who pay more are getting more from the country.
I doubt anyone accused Ike of being a socialist.

If you are saying Bill Clinton was a socialist, you didnt read enough newspapers during his presidency and listened to too much tork radio. Clinton achieved many classic Republican goals, such as a balanced budget, that the GOP has been unable -and probably unwilling- do for years.
Your man Bush is the biggest spendthrift we’ve had in a long while. He did cut taxes, but someone down the line will have to pay for the enrichment of his buddies in these wars.

I’d say more or less the same thing: If I lived in the US, I’d too take the risk and electing Obama – even if in the end he does/did screw everything up, at least it would most deff be a change from Bush policies etc. So I’m quite happy with the results

i know all you guys are arguing about how obama and mccain’s policies, but let me give you a perspective from overseas. with bush’s incompetency creating disastrous repercussions for the rest of the world, the general international opinion of both bush and the american public was that they were/are all complete idiots. obama’s win, even if he is not the president that all americans maybe have wanted but at least he has restored the faith of many abroad in both human nature and a nation that was perceived as extremely idiotic and racist.
