      • oranegreen says:

                    darkness imprisoning me
                    all that I see
                    absolute horror
                    I cannot live
                    I cannot die
                    trapped in myself
                    body my holding cell

                    • froofrou says:

Well that’s depressing. I’m off to kill myself now.

                      • herb says:

When I was a senior in high school, I had an Army recruiter tell me that, after seeing some of my test scores, that if I joined, I would likely make rank very quickly. I thought about it, as the choice was now between two extremes (military service, hippie college).

I asked my English/Philosophy teacher for advice. He lauded the idea of serving in the armed forces for a good five minutes, emphasizing the social benefits of serving, the discipline and respect. Then a pause. “But then,” he said, lingering, ” you ever read ‘Johnny Got His Gun’?”

                        • Jane St.Clair says:

That’s WAY more introspection than I gave it. Of course, by the time I was a senior in high school, my dad was a LtC and both of my brothers were enlisted so it’s not like it was a mystery. I told the recruiter that since the Army makes you get up early and run there was little chance I’d being joining.

                        • PortlandMark says:

I tried repeatedly to join the military. I actually got into the Guard for two weeks, before they realized I’d just had knee surgery and quietly ushered me out the back door. When I tried to join the Marines and the Army, they “P3″‘d me- qualified me as permanently class 3, unfit for duty, due to flat feet, and J sign stress disorder, whatever that is.

The funny thing is, now, twenty years later, the Army has changed it’s standards enough that I could join, at least for the next nineteen months!

                    • JP says:

                      “One” by Metallica :) yayyy

          • JRL says:

            > THIS SENTENCE NO VERB

            Good Choice.

            Verbing Weirds Language.

  2. MK says:

Except, you know, not until January.

    • Mayken says:

Yep. Slighly better might have been “soon featuring” or “Complete sentences coming soon to a White House near you.” meh. It’s still funny.

    • morgileighhhh says:

only when he has his teleprompter.
      otherwise..
      i… uh… karl marx… am…. blah

      • FaileV says:

Actually i heard him speak in person. He somehow made it past the border guards on montana that turn away anyone interesting or famous.
No teleprompter and I must say he has enough skill as an orator to keep me interested when it’s incredibly hot, the entire town is in a stadium with no air conditioning.

sorry that McCain lost, but seriously give credit where credit is due.
besides, I believe all president’s have teleprompters during their speeches, or are readily memorized beforehand.

        • D'oh says:

I watched that pressconference though, and sometimes I really got impatient with Obama, how slowly he went. Ofcourse I can’t blaim him, he’s just choosing his words very carefully, wich is a good thing. I snickerd at how he responded at the puppy-question btw, he does have a sense of humor :P

      • Uncle Fester says:

You’ve not read ‘Das Kapital’ have you?

  3. Tim says:

Woooo! I hope he can still find a way to slip a silly soundbite in once in a while. You know, for nostalgic purposes. =P

  4. Phaelin says:

I find it particularly funny that the lol isn’t a complete sentence. Hypocrisy?

  5. Tessie says:

I, for one, welcome our new competent overlords.

  6. JP says:

“The white house now featuring complete sentences.”
    Not complete sentance.
Irony. Doin it right. GG >_<
    Good pic, tho. lol.

    • jules says:

Agreed. There should have at least been a colon. I do like it though.

    • Benvolio says:

Jesus, for a community based on spelling things wrong and using improper grammar to be funny, you guys are rather picky. i thought the colon was implied by leaving the middle line clear.

      • Mrs_Z says:

Please, Benvolio, don’t go “nuk-yu-lar” on us. It’s an excellent LOL, and I salute you for it. *stands up and bows* It’s just that if we are going to pick on someone else’s grammar, usage, punctuation and capitalization, then ours had better be superior. (Something about stones at glass houses, y’know…)

  7. Catguy says:

Looks like he’s checkin out his new porch

  8. Heren says:

What about capitalization of proper nouns!?

  9. Bee says:

It will be quite an adjustment to have a President that doesn’t read everything off cue cards and can actually – gasp – articulate thoughts clearly and eloquently.

He’ll likely edit his own speeches too, as we saw him doing during his campaign.

Well done USA. As a proud onlooker, I salute you all on your choice.

    • mothergoose says:

      Bee;
Once in a while we get it right…I hope. I think there’s a renewed sense of hope here that hasn’t been around in quite a long time. Many of us are just hoping that he can ‘walk the walk’…

    • Hana says:

Except he DOESN’T. His speeches are all written and he memorized the word for word. LOL. When he loses his place in his memory, and has to speak off the cuff, he stumbles worse that Bush ever has. I really hope they pay Obama’s handlers well. If they ever quit, he’s gonna be in deep trouble.

      • lowly grunt says:

Hey it only took 3 and a half hours for someone to bring this up!

        You guys are slowing down.

      • jhuger says:

Maybe, but 1) he writes them himself (for the most part), 2) remembers them, 3) pronounces the words correctly without 4) making up random words as he goes along.

As an extra added bonus, he never, ever looks like a drunken frat boy caught raiding his dads liquor cabinet.

        • Not me says:

I am incredibly relieved at the prospect of being able to listen to my President without cringing! On the other hand, i think the “uh”s are gonna get to me really fast.

  10. ctsketch says:

How sad is it that after Bush we are now just glad our next president can speak properly? LOL

    • Tessie says:

I read an article by a guy who identified himself as a mental health professional who said (I’m paraphrasing here), “Honest to God, I’m not trying to make fun or be ugly, but from his symptoms, I think Bush has neurological problems and/or brain damage. He can’t talk properly, he stumbles and fumbles and can’t get out a coherent sentence, he laughs and giggles inappropriately, he’s always falling down. He has more symptoms than some of our inpatients.”

I wonder if, years from now, we’ll find out that this guy was right.

      • lowly grunt says:

All that drug and alcohol use coming back to haunt him, maybe…..

        • froofrou says:

So will Obama’s past drug use come back to haunt him as well? And on that note, can we prove he never dealt the stuff?
          -
          /trolling

          • sup says:

            Go whack yourself.

          • lowly grunt says:

That’s really beneath you, frou. Back that accusation up.

And experimenting in college and being blotto for years are two very different things, but then why bother with that distinction when a charge of dealing is so much more inflammatory?

Really, I want to see your source.

            • lowly grunt says:

While you are looking for it, you could click over to the New Yorker.
              http://www.newyorker.com/talk/comment/2008/02/25/080225taco_talk_hertzberg

              Here is the money quote:
“The news here is—what, exactly? That Obama, who now appears grounded, motivated, and poised, formerly appeared grounded, motivated, and poised? That his inner uncertainties, such as they were, were more apparent to himself than to others? That he was marginally less of a pothead than he has made himself out to be?”

        • Tessie says:

Jeez, if I’d done that much coke and alcohol in my 20s, my brain would look like a sea sponge! Good point; it would be a medical miracle if he *didn’t* have dain bramage.

      • Musicmom870 says:

Ok, I’ve linked the video at my name above. I just have to say when I saw this, it finally answered for me why the hell Texans would have voted this guy in in the first place. At one point Bush actually sounded intelligent and composed. I would have never believed it if I hadn’t seen it.
Really, it’s a pretty clear object lesson against binge drinking. The research now shows you can f up your brain pretty badly with long term binge drinking. I don’t know if it’s reversible in any way.

        • Tessie says:

I don’t flatter myself that I still have the energy level of 10 years ago, but that was truly distressing. It’s probably not doing his heart and liver any favors, either. Thanks for the informative link.

    • FaileV says:

i was under the impression that we do expect it for the most part. Many of our presidents were great orators. We remember our presidents for their speeches, but Bush made it all the more prevailent. Absense makes the heart grow stronger.

  11. steroid says:

    Bush is smarter than Obama.

  12. B. says:

… but not yet a full term served in his vast five years of political experience. I wonder if he’ll run for UN Secretary General after a year or two in office.

  13. Sylvia says:

    Isn’t “I’m the decider” a complete sentence?

  14. Peter says:

    And over 57 states.

  15. O.o says:

But who can listen to a complete sentence when it takes 20 minutes to say with all the “um”s and “uh”s?

  16. Meg says:

    Fiiiiiiinally.

  17. Matt11 says:

You know what’s really funny? The caption is grammatically F.U.B.A.R. Just wanted to let you guys know.

  18. Dylan H says:

He’ll want to get rid of the BDSM chamber, no doubt.

  19. Dave says:

for a second i thought the caption meant prison sentences and found it pretty tasteless. i wonder if that makes me racist.

  20. perky says:

Who are all these weird people? And, why do they care?

  21. Voxateuri says:

I love how, “The White house now featuring complete sentences,” is NOT a complete sentence.

  22. FinishingTheSentence says:

    - read from a teleprompter.

Sorry, I just had to finish the sentence.
