I hear the song from A Charlie Brown Christmas playing in the background….

  2. pittypat says:

    “And I got Barack”

  3. Kuromisa says:

Good caption, but I don’t like this picture very much. He just looks so forlorn. Makes me sad. I don’t think George Bush is a bad person, really–just not a great president.

    • Philip Shade says:

Yeah cause publicly mocking a woman who you’re putting to death, in front of a reporter, is the sign of a stand up individual.

Something is deeply broken inside that guy.

      • Kuromisa says:

Wait, what now? I never heard that one. When was that?

        • hissy says:

When he was governor of Texas.

          • Kuromisa says:

Okay. That makes more sense. Still, does anyone have an article or anything? I’d like to see the rest of this story.

            • rhorho says:

This doesn’t answer your question, but goes to the intelligence of our fearless leader:
              .
George W. Bush during his six years as governor of Texas presided over 152 executions, more than any other governor in the recent history of the United States. Bush has said: “I take every death penalty case seriously and review each case carefully…. Each case is major because each case is life or death.”

              • froofrou says:

Said it before, and I’ll say it again: Don’t come to Texas and committ a crime :-)

                • Uncle Fester says:

or be in the wrong place if you’re black and crime has happened… not be mentally subnormal if a crime has happened… although if you go insane while on death row, they will wait for you to get better before they kill you.

                  Gotta love state sanctioned murder…

                  • froofrou says:

Because going insane on Death Row is a common occurance, or became so after that became a good reason for not getting killed.
                    -
I’m sorry, if you’re sane enough to kill someone, you should die for it. If you’re insane enough to kill someone, you are too insane to live amongst the normal people. And you’re going to have to prove that being black and in the wrong place will get you the death penalty. I’ve said this before as well: the reason that more black people go to jail is because more black people committ crimes. Now, before you call me out, it’s more than likely tied to socioeconomic issues and isn’t a race thing at all. More white trash goes to jail as opposed to upper class black or white.
                    -
How about you just don’t come to Texas and we’ll call it even?

                    • pittypat says:

                      bloodthirsty much?

                      • froofrou says:

It has nothing to do with being bloodthirsty. It has everything to do with taking the life of someone who chooses to take one. Considering the levels of violent crime that have touched my family’s lives (life? Not sure of the plural here…….my days and nights are all screwed up and I’m extremely tired), it’s a part of my being to hold a killer accountable. I don’t care why you killed, just THAT you killed. I’m not talking about self defense or the like, I mean a deliberate taking of a life. I don’t care if you’re 8 or 80, have an IQ of 85 or an IQ of 185, or if you’re male or female. If you kill someone, you need to die. Simple.

                        • Uncle Fester says:

Oh she gets off on that kind of thing… I just enjoy push her buttons to watch her dance

                        • stripes or spots says:

I would agree with you every person put to death on death row was actually guilty. Far too many people have been to death on with evidence so holey you could push an elephant through it. Subsequent appeals, with the courts refusing to retry or allow new evidence, are often a joke. Here in Canada, they are having to review 1000s of cases due to the stupidity and ineptness of a single medical examiner; thankfully we don’t have the death penalty. There is a lot of dodginess surrounding death row cases, and not just in the USA. Let’s face it, lawyers get a lot more press and notoriety trialing death row cases than going for life imprisonment.
Personally, I would like to see more done with pedophiles and violent sex offenders. Their sentences, and jailhouse protection, are way too lenient in my opinion.

                        • froofrou says:

Total agreement about the sex offenders. I think if you rape a woman or, God forbid, a child, you should be hung by your toes until you die.
                          -
                          But that’s just me :-)
                          -
My statement still stands about the death penalty, though. If crimminals were completely convinced that they would be put to death if there is the slightest chance that they did it, crime would go down.
                          -
I think the number of appeals ought to be limited as well. If we actually started ENFORCING the laws we have now instead of allowing lawyers to tap dance through new interpretations of cut and dried laws, then there would be less crime.

                        • While I am a supporter of the death penalty, I do want to point out that Texas has the HIGHEST record of any state where innocent men are finally being let out of jail after decades of being in prison because of overzealous prosecutors. Now I wonder how many were killed.

                        • Uncle Fester says:

“My statement still stands about the death penalty, though. If crimminals were completely convinced that they would be put to death if there is the slightest chance that they did it, crime would go down.”

And how many innocents is ‘acceptable’ in this brave new world?

                          1?
                          15?
                          35?
                          As many as it takes?

                        • Uncle Fester says:

                          @Deathwrym

Some of us are old enough to remember Timothy Evans.

I ask you too, what is acceptable loss of innocents?

                        • pittypat says:

And just how insane or mentally retarded
must you be to be spared? Oh right, any
degree of either means you should be killed,
because you were “sane enough to kill” in
                          the first place.

GWB should be first on the list then.

                        • stripes or spots says:

Hung by their toes? Oh, that’s way too nice. I vote testicles. Especially for child molesters.

                        • I say only kill them if you actually got them with completely damning evidence. If it is iffy, then no. You can be damn sure that somebody did something.

                        • viking gal says:

I would be more comfortable with the death penalty if the various states in this country did a better job of providing adequate legal representation for those defendants who can’t afford a lawyer. Click my name for a recent article about Florida public defenders, who object to defending more than 2 cases per day!

                        • rhorho says:

Like FrooFrou, I’m a Texan, but unlike her, I hold a completely different opinion about the death penalty. Have all of you clicked on the link in pdq’s comment below this thread? Don’t let the “National Review” fool you: It’s about Tucker Carlson’s interview with GWB.

                        • rhorho says:

@ Uncle Fester You’re officially de-un-welcomed to Texas.

                        • PiMan says:

I am completely against all forms of death penalty, and I’d prefer if there were no life sentence either (life with chance of parole I’m fine
with), because a life in prison is no life at all.
For murderers, I recommend life with chance of parole, and pyschological counselling for life.
For rapists, I recommend life with chance of parole, counselling for life, and castration as a parole condition.

                        • froofrou says:

Murderers and rapists have a high recidivism rate. How do you propose to deal with that? (honest question)

                        • rhorho says:

@froofrou: I think PiMan’s castration idea would take care of the rapists. As a Texas taxpayer, I don’t like that it costs us more to sentence someone to die than it does to imprison him/her for life. Moreover, I’m disturbed by the revelations made by the Innocence Project. I’m not prepared to let go of the life/no parole sentence though. Kenneth Allen McDuff should never have been let out, EVER:
                          .
                          http://www.geocities.com/verbal_plainfield/i-p/mcduff.html

                        • froofrou says:

As long as it’s actual castration and not chemical castration, bring it on. I’ll support it. And you have to understand, what I said about living in a cliche’ earlier is true. When it comes to violent crime, I tend to subscribe to the ‘kill em all and let God sort em out’ school of thought. It’s not the best one, I know, but it certainly covers the bases of crimminals, and will DEFINITLY work as a deterrant (sp? like I said, my days and nights are screwed up right now and I can’t spell).

                        • Uncle Fester says:

@Froufrou – you’ve still not said how many innocents it’s ‘acceptable’ to execute

And there is no evidence that death is actually a deterrent
to a sociopathic personality, which the comment ‘Kill them all and let God srot them out indicates you are :) Can you provide evidence there IS a deterrent? Og, and how would you like to tell someone’s mother her boy or girl was excuted wrongly? You seem to get off on the whole Southern Death Cult mentality… does ‘sorry’ cut it? Or haven’t you thought that one through?

Fine Christian woman there… Bastard by birth, bastard by nature.

BTW, can you still deliberately mow down punks in a Caddy in Amarill and get just get probation (Brian Deneke)? Texas – Third World Hell for the most part.

                        • FaileV says:

Uh to the actual castration versus chemical castration…why? Isn’t chemical castration more effective than physical castration? It’s not like it would be a mark of shame, doubtful anyone will see said mutilation, so why bother with the surgical nonsense that will surely be involved if it were mainstream.

                        • Um, castration is actually rather pointless. Rape isn’t about sex, it is about power. Rape would just become more object based in recurring cases.

                        • froofrou says:

You’re right about the chemical vs. physical castration, but isn’t there the option to reverse the chemical castration? I want that option removed. Also, castration takes away a lot of the agressive hormones (in younger males) that would cause them to react violently. Also, can you imagine the shame of losing your nuts?
                          -
As far as object rapes go, I’m still for the death penalty in all cases of rape, child or otherwise.

                        • stripes or spots says:

I think the point with chemical castration, particularly with paedophiles, is that it is supposed to remove sexual desire. I vaguely recall something in Australia a while ago about some guy actually requesting to undertake chemical castration because he didn’t want to reoffend, but without the castration he most certainly would. And that’s about all I know about that case. I know the civil libertarians in Australia had a field day when they were proposing castration for paedophiles – ignoring any concern for past or future victims.
I believe the major problem with violent sex offenders and paedophiles is that it becomes sociopathic, a compulsion rather than a choice. Something is flicked, and there is no turning back; simply put, some people cannot be rehabilitated. A friend of mine is psychologist dealing with abnormal psychology (like sociopaths and psychopaths), really interesting to listen to her talk about it.
I really hope I haven’t repeated anyones ideas in my rant!

          • Kuromisa says:

Wow…just…wow. *has no words for this*

          • Uncle Fester says:

Madam Froufrou seems proud of it

“Said it before, and I’ll say it again: Don’t come to Texas and committ a crime”(sic)

            Niiice

            • Jane St.Clair says:

Srsly, get off froofrou’s case. You can disagree with her without being insulting. When you do that you lose all credibility and move into the troll category. All she’s doing is stating her opinion, she’s not insulting YOU so if you can’t argue with her without making personal attacks then just shut up already.

              • It is getting rather taxing…

                • Uncle Fester says:

Tough. She makes dumb ass comments, I’ll call them. Simply popular doesn’t mean much :)

and Jane, frankly your opinion is of as much worth as the Murderous Texan, so keep it down to a dull roar, will ya? Huh?

                  • Just as soon as you cut on the pointlessly aggressive attacks and try some debating instead. K? k. Glad we could sort that out.

                  • Jane St.Clair says:

And all your comments are intelligent and well thought out. I’ve never said one word to you and the first time I have I did in a respectful manner asking you to lay off someone because you were being unfair and you react like a child throwing a hissy fit by insulting me too. Why don’t you pull the stick out of your ass.

              • Peanut says:

                Please, froofrou trolls too.

                • minerva146 says:

She does some, but then we call her on it and she usually makes an argument. She does usually try to have reasonable discussions.

                  • froofrou says:

I’ll admit to trolling here and there, but I usualy mark it clearly with a ‘/trolling’ at the end. AND the only reason I do it is because at work I only have the time to jump on with a quick statement and then jump off. My more clearly defined arguments come after I get home and have the time to cite research :-) I tend to be of the ‘the-industrial-revolution-was-neither-industrial-nor-a-revolution. Discuss’ type of troll :-)
                    -
Jane, Minerva, DWN, thank you. *hugs*

                • Jane St.Clair says:

Didn’t you mother ever tell you two wrongs don’t make a right? Or how about if your friends jump off a bridge would you? Froofrou also isn’t focusing on a single person and insulting them everytime they make an argument.

              • fanboys says:

Ah, the kneejerk froofrou defenders. So predictable.

                • Phaelin says:

Obtain friends one day and they may extend you that same courtesy. You’ll just need to work on that glaringly head-up-the-ass demeanor of yours. It certainly isn’t cute.

                  • donkeytalker says:

‘Tis one thing I love about this place – FrooFou runs against the majority opinion, her opinions cop a whackin’, but… also has a whole bag of respect and friends happy to step in to help. Love it all. Phaelin, agree. Fanboys, your perspective improves enormously when you extract your head from your arsehole.

                  • fanboys says:

Get off the internet once in a while and you may actually make real friends someday!

            • Kuromisa says:

Hey. Frou’s one of my favorite people on here and a total sweetheart; get off her back.

            • Phaelin says:

That’s really all your pitiful excuse of a brain can bother to come up with? Niiice? Seriously, if you cannot be troubled to sit down and think out some kind of response without resorting to be a general dick, then it’s probably for the best that you just quit the internet. Go to 4-chan or failblog, because we won’t put up with your genre of bullshit here.

          • eponymous says:

Wow! pdq, thanks for that. I’d heard about this before, but never had any documentation…It’s always intrigued me how someone who preaches the sanctity of unborn life could be so totally…ugh…I’m so tired of trying to figure “W” out…I wish he’d just go away already…
