What’s going on in the picture? Tell us in the Comments
picture: dunno source, via our lol builder. lol caption:
Lol!
Hate when that happens…
geez, every time!!
Yeah, but the note would have been in pirate talk, anyway. AAARRRRR!
Shiver me timbers! What scurvey dog parked their car under me boat?! Arrrgh!!!
LOL! WIN!
er.. ARRRHH! Right funny way o’ lookin’ at things, matey! *awk*
Arrrgh! It’s not even an American car, but then what is?
If GMC or American Motors had made a decent economy car in the last 35 years or a hybrid car in the last ten years (the hybrid Lexus, Escalade or any other “hybrid” American luxury vehicle do not count, they would not be in the dire straights they are in now. If they had shosen to make the Camry’s and the Accents for America then American jobs would be more secure and even thriving. They chose to make nothing but luxury sedans and oversized SUV’s and screw they base consumer. I am on the side of let them file for bankruptcy. They are bankrupt, it’s clear. Maybe after restructuring they will make the cars that Americans BUY and then Americans will have their jobs back.
Obviously your commentary is SO on topic.
FAIL
I’m a little confused by what looks to be the… propellor? Rudder? It looks strangely like a shop job.
Also, ouch.
Yeah, I’m calling shop on this. There’s not visible damage to the car…. Well, none besides the boat. Unless I’m looking at it wrong. Which is totally probable.
“Shop” even more annoying than “first.”
It’s not photo shopped. That was around the Kemah boardwalk where all the yachts and boats are, I believe that boat would have come from the Clear Lake Yacht Club. That’s what hurricane Ike did to this area. That picture along with so many others were shown on the local stations for about 10 days straight down here. That area around where the picture is still devastated, there are still homes that need to be torn down that haven’t and there are places where a home was and now all that’s left is the pylons.
Oh, come on! Look at the shadow under the car and a shadow of that guy.
Also the car is in quite a good condition as for sth smashed with a boat.
Photoshop.
Sweetheart, I saw it on the local news. I live in this area, it is not photoshopped.
You can’t see the water but Kemah is right behind the the condos in the picture The water rose 20 feet during the hurricane and moved the boat. When the water went down the boat stayed. It is not photoshopped.
Also you can’t see a shadow because it’s cloudy outside, it rains during and after a hurricane, which is the reason the guy is wearing a rain coat……..
Hurricane Ike was God Photoshopping your town.
LOL, FTW!
the boat is quite large and lot directly on top of the car, the keel is keeping it up more so it looks like it’s more balanced on the car. If a waterlevel lowered and the boat slowly lowered onto the car then there would be no reason to think there would be the same damage as if it were droped wizard of oz style. You can see the car has more weight on the front tire. You can also see the shadow of the tiller a bit. it’s higher up off the ground and more faint than the car wheels or the man.
~
Neat pictures existed before photoshop and they still do.
I’m from Texas, and I think we saw a lot more of these photos than the rest of the country. This was one of (unfortunately) very many. My point is that there are so many such photos available, it would be a waste of time to photoshop one.
Yellow trenchcoat and no pants FTW?
Looks like he’s been combing the Junior High Schools for a date all day
I guarantee he has shorts on under that yellow trenchcoat. I myself went out right after Ike in a very similar outfit — shorts almost totally covered by a windbreaker (but they still got wet, so… oh well).
This was here in Kemah after Ike.
I still don’t find these comments funny, we haven’t had a chance to rebuild yet. How about we wait a year before making fun of our misfortune?
How’s about using humor to get through adversity?
It’s not funny when you are making fun of someone’s misfortune.
‘Tragedy is when I stub my toe. Comedy is when you fall down a manhole and die.”
- Mel Brooks
Did you lose your house because of Ike? I doubt it, so why don’t you let the people that went through hell make the decisions when it comes to laughing about our misfortune.
it sucks that you lost so much, but please try to recognize some people seek healing through laughter.
~
This is not a picture of a washed out house, it is not photographic evidence of dismal death, and it isn’t saying “HAHA you’re homeless now!” This is a picture that shows very little in the way of destruction. I can see a messed up tree and a boat on a car, the car hardly being damaged. It is absurd and the caption pushes it farther to absurdem. No one is laughing at the hurricane. No one is amused that people lost their homes and lives. They are amused at the idea of a boat on top of a car being something like getting bumped in a parking lot.
And that my friend is the nice way of saying, “Pull the stick out!”
How about next time you suffer through a natural disaster I laugh at you? It is not time to make light of a difficult situation at the moment.
And just what healing do you guys need? Was it your home? Your life turned upside down because of hurricane Ike? Yes I laugh and it helps but laughing over something as devastating as this doesn’t help, in fact it does the opposite.
Is this your car?
Is this your boat?
Is that you in the raincoat?
No?
Then no one is laughing at you.
Sweetheart, I live in that area. I lost my home, I lost my car, I everything so yes when you guys laugh at what happened during Ike you are laughing at me and everyone else who suffered through something so tragic.
But you by God have a computer to voice your opinion, just like the rest of us. If you don’t like it, maybe you could take your opinion elsewhere?
-
How do you know what other’s here have suffered? You are making a tremendous leap to think that YOU and those in your area are the only one’s that have suffered through disasters, of any type. I lived in California for years and suffered through loss because of earthquakes. Yes, it’s a life changing event, but I’m still here and while you may not appreciate the fact, humor does help sooth the soul. So as other’s have said, lighten up a bit.
Umm yeah I’m on a borrowed computer at the moment.
So you’re going to try the old if you don’t like it leave routine. LOL> now that made me laugh
No, you’re more then welcome here. But if you’re going to start bashing other’s for finding a bit of humor in things that happen, then yeah, move on.
-
As I said, you and those in your community are not the first, nor will they be the last to have suffered through a disaster.
I’ve been through natural disastors, i’ve been through physical trauma, though i doubt that you care much because right now it’s YOUR trauma and by god i could never understand because i’m not RIGHT THERE. Look like I said before, if this were a picture of real devistation then I would be right there with you about how it’s not funny. But it’s still not showing a destroyed home, it’s not a dead loved one, it’s not a town torn to shit. It is a picture of a Boat, on top of a Car both in Decent Condition. Yes there were other tragedies at the time of the hurricane, but they are not previlant in this picture, the only thing you see is a car, a boat and an annoyed looking guy with a caption to take it to absurdem.
~
Life is sad, i hope things get better, please don’t be so indignant that we take the time to laugh at an amusing picture because we did not project the levels of tragedy and horror that you did onto this photo.
~
Also if you have time to argue on a humor site, you’re much better off than many people
Ike must have rammed a stick up TC’s a$$.
Impossible.. it’s too damn tight!
TC, come on already — I live in the area too, but if you don’t laugh you’ll cry. Personally, I’d much rather laugh. Please don’t take it too seriously. Seems as if you do need a huge laugh… trust me, it will make you feel better.
Lighten up! I myself have been through a house fire and lost ECVERYTHING also. It’s not cool. I can still smile at these type of photos. It’s not even targeting anybody. it’s not laughing at the misfortune. it’s adding a silly caption to what would be in other circumstances, a very absurd photo. Sheesh. I truly do know what you’ve been through. I miss my two cats and dog the most. But you have to still go on with life!
TC, come on already — I live in the area too, but if you don’t laugh you’ll cry. Personally, I’d much rather laugh. Please don’t take it too seriously.
Like people in Bangladesh and other countries who permanently don’t have homes because of natural disasters and poverty?
I think they’ll be glad to know that you’re going to donate the hell out of your paycheck once you’ve gotten your life back in order. You know, because you know how horrible their lives must be. PERMANENTLY.
Hey…I wonder if anyone who survived a natural disaster would be offended by a picture like this? Nah… everyone knows it’s all in good fun.
I dunno I would kinda think that if you live near the gulf of freakin
mexico where hurricanes are BORN 90% of the time, you’d learn
to laugh at something like that seeing as how its GOING to happen
Its nothing like me, who lost a house, a car, a beautiful garden,
two dogwoods, an oak tree, one dog, and almost all the vinyl siding on my house
from Hugo… a hurricane that wasnt even supposed to make it
past Wilmington, much less storm 500 miles inland pissing on
civilization as it went…. After all that shit that went down, when
I walked out and surveyed my house, which had three trees(those
dogwoods and oak I mentioned) that had graciously segmented
my home the first thing I said was “Well…. talk about you fixer
upper.”
It was a disaster, one that was NOT expected, and had NEVER
happened before. I laughed because if I didnt make a joke, and
MAKE myself laugh, Id have probably started crying and had a
nervous breakdown. So dont try to tell me I cant laugh at
misfortune, because sometimes, laughing is all that keeps us
sane. So if you want to live in an area that gets battered by hurricanes
Go ahead… but do NOT deny me my right to cope through laughter
I live in Florida. Remember all the crap that happened a few years ago? Yeah.
Um… if I saw this, I’m sure I’d laugh. Taking things TOO seriously is just as bad as not taking them seriously enough.
Laugh a little. It helps alot.
@TC
how often do you get a hurricane where you live?
@Fester
I live in the same area as TC (apparently, since I “hunkered down” through Ike too) and we haven’t had a real hurricane here in 25 years. Actually, 25 years and one month, but who’s counting? lol
The Galveston-Houston area usually averages one big hurricane about every 10 years, so we were WAAAAY overdue. Obviously, TC wasn’t here in 1983 when Alicia blasted through here, obliterating everything in her path — yet we rebuilt and made things even better. We all survived that pain and suffering, we’ll do it this time too. That’s part of what makes us Texans, is that “you can’t keep me down” attitude. Then again, maybe TC isn’t a real Texan!
Ever thought that, if there’s a god, it’s a hint not to live there?
Sorry, TC, but
schadenfreude
–noun
satisfaction or pleasure felt at someone else’s misfortune.
——————————————————————————–
Origin:
1890–95; < G, equiv. to Schaden harm + Freude joy
Just thought to add that.
Not that I find it funny aside from him wearing a yellow raincoat with no pants and looking all indignant
Schadenfreude was also a goth industrial night that ran from 2003 – 2006 in Washington DC. Late in it’s run it developed a reputation for Satan worship and baby eating. Click on my name for the ad.
Schadenfreude > no freude at all
I like my eggs freude, over toast.
Zometimes a Zailboat ist yust a Zailboat.
– another Freude
Yellow raincoat, no pants, boat on top of car… The Gorton’s fisherman the morning after a binge?
Tessie, I’m thinking you may have a storyline for an interesting novel. I say go with it!
Sorry AGAIN, TC, but
Man, I love Comedy Left (as opposed to Comedy Central)!
The movie version should star Nick Nolte.
Oh, and I’m still waiting on those bon-bons!
[pushes red satin heart-shaped box of bonbons across table top so as to be withing Eddie's reach]
YAY!!
-
*Shares them around*
*pokes around for coconut*
By “pokes around”, I hope you don’t mean “pokes the bottom of the actual chocolate” like SOME people I could name, because that’s just plain unsanitary! That’s why I like the chocolates with the little map on the inside of the box top.
“OK, lesson learned. Next time the damned dolphins come around trick or treating, just GIVE them the damned treat!”
But we were out of fish!
Great pic, but I’m confused why it’s on Pundit Kitchen…
i was wondering that too. I assumed it wasn’t a cat, dog, celebrity, or fail as such (as in no fail in the caption) so it was defaulted here
If you look at the top, it says LOL News and LOL Politics Fun. I would guess this falls under news.
It’s a picture from Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans….There were alot of boats on cars, houses, roads, trucks…
It’s an Ike picture. Galveston flooded, the ships in the harbor floated inland, the water retreated…
That’s No Ficus…
…It’s a space station.
I got into so much crap when I altered my mail sig to ‘That’s no moon, it’s a space station’ during a period a certain Telico I PMed for was trying to change the designation of their logo from ‘The Death Star’
so a car runs out of gas,
does a boat run out of water?
LOLstupid!
I am amazed with it. It is a good thing for my research. Thanks. ^_^
Did anyone get the license plate on that boat?
DAMN Raccons!!!
