  1. Philip Shade says:

    meh
true but not so funny, to me.

  2. KaBooM says:

Might have been better if it was the White House, and not the capitol building. At least I think that’s what that is. Been a LONG time since I was in DC…

    • Danbala says:

Actually, it being the wrong building at least makes it possible to snicker at this. So: better. :P

      • mellenmack says:

actually, it being the wrong building makes it possible to snicker at the education system in this country…

        • Boris says:

It being the wrong building and knowing the views of the person who wrote it makes it that…much…funnier.

        • Danbala says:

I wouldn’t feel too comfortable commenting on that particular snickerability, not being from “that country”.
          -
For the same reason, I cannot possibly argue with what you are saying. ;P

    • B. says:

Yeah, that’s the Capitol and the control of Congress is still with the Dems, since they took congress back in early 2006.

      Still nothing fixed, though. Interesting…

Picture caption + civics = FAIL.

      • Eric-in-STL says:

Still nothing fixed ‘cos Bush still has veto.

        • Galen says:

Nothing’s fixed because the republicrats are still in office, and people are still under the illusion that they are two different parties.

        • Andrew says:

Veto can’t be blamed all the time when Congress can’t put together anything resembling a bipartisan bill. They can’t make a bill that’s straight to the point, it’s nothing but conditional bullcrap. That’s why their approval rating makes Bush’s look not too shabby.

          • Charlie Foxtrot says:

It takes two parties to develop bi-partisan initiatives and the GOP has not been inclined to do anything other than sell out the American people to advance their own distorted agenda.

          • slanagat says:

There will never be a bipartisan bill out of Congress as long as “bipartisanship” continues to mean Democrats should vote like Republicans but not the reverse.

      • Ham says:

The picture/caption’s fail, but one party can’t do much with a President from the other party in power, and only a small, non-veto-proof majority.

      • PortlandMark says:

Still nothing fixed because of A) Bush and B) the republicans made free use of the filibuster power they condemned the democrats for attempting to use between 2002 and 2006. Granted, I think Reid and Pelosi share the blame for not sticking it to the republicans.

  3. Xavier says:

Actually not true…Congress is still majority Democrat, just like it was on Nov 3rd. The President doesn’t “manage” Congress…and even if he did, the “management” part wouldn’t be true until late in the day on Jan 20th, 2009.

If it were a pic of the White House, it would be more accurate…

  4. Lolnathan says:

Wrong building fellas. That one has been under Democrat control for a couple years now.

    • ubr says:

hence why the economy is f—ed.

      • Seth says:

Really? What exactly did the Democrats do in the last two years to eff up the economy so badly? Care to point out something concrete? Or were you just flinging poo?

        • Mac says:

point to something they did the prevent the collapse…

          • Becca says:

So you don’t have anything concrete either.

            • Phaelin says:

For the record, no one has so far posted anything concrete, and neither will I. Keep flinging poo, though!

              • ck says:

I’d rather fling concrete. More destructive.

              • Picky says:

The whole subprime mortgage mess started with FDR New Deal, even before the affirmative action, with the blessing of the bleeding-heart democrats, by granting mortgages to the people that could not afford them, and the practice inevitably led to the crash of Fannie Mae / Freddie Mack and then the others followed. It’s like giving the folks that never had graduated from the high school brain surgeon or pilot licenses just because it looks right, fair, and fits the “social justice” delusion. If you want to see when, how many mortgages, and to whom, GOOGLE IT! And stop pretending you never heard of welfare listed as income.

            • Llllllll. says:

…and all the while the bureaucrats have been collecting nice, fat paychecks to do something that is without benchmarks and whose results are unprovable.

          • Eric-in-STL says:

The economic collapse seems like bipartisan FAIL to me, although it seems like waaaaaay too much deregulation played a role in that. I wonder who favors deregulation…

            • Phaelin says:

              Oooh! Me! Pick me!

            • Xavier says:

              http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glass-Steagall_Act

Apparently, it was *everyone* in 1999…

            • BDogg581 says:

The problem was that the dems favored the wrong regulations…like forcing banks to give loans to people who couldn’t pay them back, in various ways, like requiring that unemployment benefits, welfare checks, etc, be counted as sources of income.

              • ck says:

Wait wait wait, they were actually FORCING banks to give out loans? Wat?

                • Uncle Fester says:

Actually the ‘redlining’ legislation dates back to the end of the Ford Administration.

Red Lining was to prevent banks from enforcing the idea of ethnicity in a neighbour hood… for example a family with an Italian name would not be approved for a mortgage they could prove they could afford in a white area, but would be approved for one in an ‘Italian’ area… There was something of a stink at the time.

since then there have been a few other bits of regulation under Carter, Reagan, Bush 1, Clinton and Bush II that compounded the legislation as the banks found ‘loop holes’ to continue their established practices, along with deregulation allowing a bank to sell on it’s ‘bad’ investments more or less hidden within good packages (usually post sale loading… but it’s supposed to be declared). There was also a problem in terms of risk assessors deliberately helping certain financial institutions sell on their ‘bad’ debt by grading them higher than they should be.

One of the triggers of this free fall has been an impending audit, that
resulted in some Triple-A stock being downgraded to ‘gilt’ in short order.
Now, one can expect maybe a point change in a month on specific investment trenches, but not 4 to 5 points in a day, which is what happened. I think panic was a rational response.

So, it’s a combination of compounded ill considered legislation, coupled with hand over fist greed by people who’d proved they couldn’t be trusted in that there was the need for legislation

The ‘forcing’ banks to hand out a bad loan is sort of correct, but only in the very crudest sense. It’s more about the fact banks tried to screw each other having taken on debt well beyond what was ‘required’ and in cahoots with ‘independent’ risk assessments.

                  • Uncle Fester says:

I hate this blogger interface… Second para should read…

“The Legislation was to prevent banks from enforcing the idea of ethnicity in a neighbour hood… for example a family with an Italian name would not be approved for a mortgage they could prove they could afford in a white area, but would be approved for one in an ‘Italian’ area… There was something of a stink at the time.”

      • Mcdonaldsfan says:

This picture shows why the economy is f-ed. People can’t tell the white house from the capital building.

        • B. says:

          Haha, nice.

Yeah, the Economy isnt a Right Wing/Wrong Wing kind of problem. It’s a combination of every single person in this country. No party and no messiah/president can fix it.

          It’s bigger than politics.

  5. FaileV says:

meh, i’m really happy obama won, but this just seems unoriginal, unfunny, and they use the wrong building

  6. Schmoe says:

“the fireworks are over and only the smoke remains” let’s see what happens next.

  7. Koki Kariya says:

ENOUGH! I voted for Obama but give it up; these are NOT funny! And this isn’t even correct for what they intended. This not the White House and as Pelosi and Reid were here last year, this year, and will be next year there is no change in Congressional leadership.

    Government Building Identification Fail!

  8. ubr says:

why are we still seeing these stupid epic wins and other bs. please, something new and ingenious.

“mine’s the new hotness, yours was old and busted. new hotness, old and busted.”

  9. ema says:

Save this one for two years from now…

    • n8 says:

You think two years is going to be long enough for the Republican party to rebuild itself from its current smoking crater, let alone wage a successful war of ideas? I know you’re an optimist, but that might be asking a little much. This is a party where a lot of people still kinda think Sarah Palin was a good idea.

      • minerva146 says:

Including Sarah herself, if what she said on Wolf Blitzer means anything. She’d a power hungry backbiter who’s completely, maniacally insane.

      • ema says:

Well, the only reason Obama got in was because people wanted to vote in *anyone* but Bush and McCain was painted to look just like Bush. The same concept could work in the other direction in 2 years, possibly…

        • n8 says:

No, if that’s all it was, then turnout wouldn’t have been as high as it was. People really believe in Obama and his ideas. Republicans mainly voted for McCain out of a sense of duty, or because their distaste for Obama outweighed their distaste for McCain. Very few people seemed genuinely enthusiastic about McCain. Nobody was calling him the McMessiah, for certain!

          • minerva146 says:

Yes, and also the large gain in Democratic seats in Congress can’t be explained by this logic.

          • ema says:

The turnout was not all that higher than any other election only around 126 million voters. The thing that won it for Obama was the independents voted for him and the economy didn’t help…

            • eddiepscetti says:

And let’s not forget that the Dems are still in the drivers seat in Congress. So yes, two more years is about right to see which way the economy goes.

            • Lyn says:

Well, from what I’ve read about it, Democratic turnout was high, while Republican turnout was significantly lower (apparently reflecting lower enthusiasm for McCain). The two changes essentially cancelled each other out, resulting in a much smaller turnout increase overall than many people were expecting.

  10. scum-bot says:

the captioner: YAY! Obama won! *looks around* WRONG BUILDING!

  11. wacom says:

Alright guys, I can understand your enthusiasm, I share it too, but your election was a WEEk ago! Even accounting for the ridiculously long election process, there is still politics going on, at least in other parts of the world!

    MOR FUNNYS PLZ

  12. Leland Dantzler says:

Alright, getting sick of these. What idiots are voting these stupid unfunny pictures on to the front page? This one isn’t even correct, regardless whether you’re happy Obama won, it’s the wrong building. Gah…

  13. m says:

    Another lame caption, good job.

  14. Charlie Foxtrot says:

Doesn’t matter which building you pick, last i checked, they’re all under the same management as always…the American People…I think that sometimes the pundits and politicians forget that simple fact.

  15. Miss Antipodes says:

    Meh.
The House and Senate are still filled with the same douchebags as before….

  16. slaggingham says:

If you don’t know the difference between the Capitol and the White House, you should go demand your vote back.

  17. nickj says:

Under Same Management is more like it…
Anyways, is it not time to move on with life?
The world does not revolve around Obama and the Dem’s winning.

  18. Sean says:

    Huge fail.

Maybe this would be true in 2006.

  19. Phaelin says:

I wonder how many people have said “THAZ NOT WHITE HOUZE!” so far. Read the comments, guys…

  20. mellenmack says:

A nod to what has happened to education since NCLB….WIN! or is that fail…hmm…

  21. Darnity says:

Why? Are Pelosi and Reid going to get replaced? Otherwise, FAIL.

  22. JAG says:

    Caption FAIL.

    But nice try.

  23. DustinO says:

Guys, I think – THINK – he was referring to how the Dems gained a lead in the senate so that they don’t need to rely on that bastard Lieberman to break ties.

Again, I could be wrong, but if I am not wrong, then, well, you’re all dumb.

  24. Green Is Good says:

Caption aside, it really is a beautiful photo.

  25. SJ Cynic says:

Either they were in a coma in 2006 or it’s scary that they can vote.

  26. GOM says:

….and God help us all !

  27. relly says:

    This lol sucks.

  28. North Jericho says:

Should be put on new blog called – Caption fail

  29. KidGoku35 says:

what’s funny is that this is true.
