Conservatives have backed dictators like Somoza, Pinochet, Joseph Mobutu, and the former Shah of Iran, just to name a few. We have, at various points in our history, supported Saddam Hussein when he was of use to us against Iraq and Al-Qaida when they were of use to us against Russia in Afghanistan. I see no reason to suppose that they won’t continue meeting with, kissing up to, and financing dictators, up to and including Satan, if said dictator makes the right noises about being against the communist/terrorist/whatever boogeymen of the moment. Our country’s history of backing the wrong horse would be funny in a reverse-psychology, Bill Kristol-esque way if it hadn’t had such tragic results.

I, for one, sir, am very patriotic. I have family values. Sorry, conservatives don’t have a monopoly on patriotism and family values. Seth had a great post about this the other day. I don’t insult people who haven’t deserved it. When arguing a point, I speak respectfully and provide sources to back up my suppositions. Meeting with dictators? Care to be more specific? Presidents of all party affiliations have met with the leaders of countries that are ruled by “dictators” for a very long time. Musharraf was Bush’s ally supposedly. What about the Saudi Royals. Saudi Arabia houses terrorists, but they are supposedly our allies too.

You have a lot of hate and misinformation considering you think neo-cons are the only ones with any knowledge, wisdom, and morals.

P.S. You’re really not adding credence to Seth’s assertions that most conservatives are smart and decent, patriotic citizens.

BTW, Froofrou is a conservative but can show respect for others and their opinions whether she agrees or not. It’s called “maturity.”

I do not see zeal when used for negative affect as anything positive to admire. I do not admire zeal for zeal’s sake.

I wasn’t saying that ball kicking or murder is admirable and if you think that, then you didn’t comprehend my words which just… Galls me and leaves me without any recourse than to ignore you going forward since you won’t understand what I am saying in the first place. If you take a life, your life is forfeit unless you are defending the life of yourself or those you love. It isn’t that hard and doesn’t require some cosmic justice from a boogey man in the sky to do justice for me.

So I am afraid that you wasted a lot of words about a system of beliefs I only agree with sometimes because of the practical nature for the common good. I do not know the future thus I don’t pretend that a guilty murderer will repent but I certainly believe that he should face consequences for what he has done.

I certainly do not believe that I should pay for his repentance as a taker of lives as I am not compensated for obeying the rules. I understand that petty crimes do not deserve death and money for their incarceration is required so I deal with that as a necessary annoyance. However, I do not believe in coddling any criminal based off their “potential” good nor do I believe that murder deserves less than what they gave their victim.

And I suppose I will wait for your slippery slope argument.
