assuming this is from Cali, I feel for these guys. Hope they got a good nap before having to go back in to that mess. i know i have the unpopular stance on here of not being a fan of the military, or post-9/11 pop-patriotism, but man, i’ve always been fans of firefighters, and will be to the day i die, and if it wasn’t for a gimp lung, i’d have been one.

    • desikitteh says:

don’t worry, i’m anti-mil as an institution. but i’m always pro the people who care.try risk their lives for others.

i think that sometimes people forget when you say you’re anti-mil you’re not necessarily anti the individuals who serve as people or sometimes even as soldiers/navy/air force officers.

    • sk says:

As I recall from the original picture (in the LA Times), these fellas were taking a little break from the Yorba Linda (Orange County, CA) fire. There were 1200-1500 personnel trying to save 1000s of homes at the time, and this was after Sat nights firestorm…

    • whoopieman says:

firemen have big hoses. That y u like them?

  2. Wombatish says:

    /salute

    That’s really all.

  3. D'oh says:

Earned? Definatly. But I won’t advice it if the building is still ablaze :P

  4. j99450 says:

    Aye, they deserve a break.

  5. Jude says:

Oh, sweet! I made the front page!

  6. Confoozled says:

Quick! Someone get these guys some pillows!
    .
No pillows? Well, then, let me be your pillow, baby.

    • Christine says:

Haha, oh, I’d be their pillow all night long.

      • ema says:

Now that they’re weak and helpless we can drag one home!

        • Jane St.Clair says:

Yes! I like your thinking ema!

          • Wyde says:

            Ahahaha…
Women demonstrating sexual independence always makes me laugh.

            • kismet says:

As long as it distracts you from wondering why you don’t get laid, I’m all for your amusement. Must be very painful for you.

              • Wyde says:

Sorry for not being the ideal 23+ loser who spends their time looking at this “Lol Politics,” which is neither funny nor political. At my age, which I won’t disclose, the few right-minded adults left would consider me performing intercourse immoral. What I meant by my statement was that it makes me laugh how many women are so desperate for lovin’, that they’ll (what sounds like) rape a fireman to get it. They were probably kidding, and that’s okay, but everything you say reveals your character. Watch what you say.
Back on to the strong n’ steady demoralization of adults… What kind of future is it where (some of) the new generation (such as me) is apalled by what our superiors do? In whose footsteps do I follow if every path leads to the same tainted culture? What example is set for me to meet, and then excel, to further strengthen my nation? Since I seem to have been born at the worst possible time in history to learn, grow, and progress, my generation will have to make its own culture. I fear my adulthood will meet many disappointing results…

                • minerva146 says:

Making a lot of assumptions, aren’t we? As a minor you’re in no position to judge the sexuality of consenting adults. Also, the women talking lewdly about the firemen were, in fact, joking. You are taking much out of context.

Furthermore you are assuming much about the “average” person who posts here on PK. They cover a wide range of ages, of both genders and sexual orientations, not to mention a huge spectrum of political viewpoints. Don’t paint people with such a broad brush. Before you experience life a little, you’re in no position to make an assessment on the “demoralization” of adults, culture, etc. get off your high horse, kid.

                  • Kuromisa says:

Thank you. I was going to repond, but I’m too sleepy to make a decent, serious post. You said it very well. Kids like this make me wary of saying I’m a teenager online–people tend to assume we’re all like this joker. *sigh*

                    • minerva146 says:

Thank you kuromisa. I’d put a smiley, but PK eats them : )

                    • minerva146 says:

my teen stepdaughter still thinks she knows everything. As she’s only 14 I still have high expectations that she’ll grow out of it. At least she doesn’t throw around suppositions on topics she has no way of knowing anything about!!

                      • bobdole says:

“she doesn’t throw around suppositions on topics she has no way of knowing anything about”
                        You hope ;)

                      • Kuromisa says:

                        Don’t worry, she will. Everyone’s a dolt at fourteen. She’ll settle. ; )

                        • AC says:

                          I hated being 14…..
16′s good. I can get married, drive a moped/narrow agricultural tractor, join the Army, get paid to stay on at school….
Full fare on the train tho. :(

                • kismet says:

                  “Ahahaha…
Women demonstrating sexual independence always makes me laugh.”

No, sugar, I’m pretty sure you were being a male chauvinist little creep. That was a pretty rude thing to say, and you know it.

Regardless of your age, you are learning far too many demoralizing things and I hardly think you’re learning it from me. It’s time to grow up and realize women can be sexual as well as men. There is no difference, only cultural ignorance. I’m sorry someone has taught you otherwise.

And to say you don’t read these is kind of silly, isn’t it? Because you came back to read the exact same comment section in the morning, so you’re right here with us.

And if you’re not old enough to talk about stuff like this, please, please, do us all a favor and skip sexual conversations. It’s mortifying to know someone your age would come on here and make such rude comments towards women. I would say I’ve lost all faith in our youth, but there’s too many cool, intelligent teens (or tweens) to say something like that.

                  And to say

                  • kismet says:

Dammit, I hate it went I fail so epically…. lol…

                  • Ignotus says:

I find it amusing that almost no one gets offended about all the T&A comments, but one joke about women getting some from a fireman and all of a sudden a kid is morally affronted.
Thank you, internet, for this trip to the twilight zone. :D

                    • Ya, I was about to say something to that effect. I am a horrible pervert with a woman into BDSM who calls me master and got annoyed last night that I am not as direct and demanding as I could be.

However, the idea of ema and Jane grabbing some firefighter for the evening causes a moral tumor. This is why I hate people. I encourage women to be open with their sexuality. Accepting women as sexual beings with needs and desires is just part of respecting them as equals. I talk to my guy friends about which girl is hot or flaunting their body today, why can’t my females friends be respected enough to do the same if they see something they like?

I like perverted women, they actually know what they want and have a higher chance of actually telling you so you can do it… Though being women, they still have a high chance of expecting you to be psychic but I will stop as the following statements would just make me seem bitter.

                • chimmeychango says:

wyde, its ok that your gay, we support you;P

                • ema says:

Hey, hey, hey, hey!! Slow down there little feller. I didn’t say anything about what I was going to do to him did I? For all you know I was going to make him breakfast and wash his clothes.

“Since I seem to have been born at the worst possible time in history to learn, grow, and progress, my generation will have to make its own culture. I fear my adulthood will meet many disappointing results…” — You have a very negative outlook and with that kind of thinking you are right, you will have trouble. Every generation had their obstacles to overcome you are no exception. Try to change your thinking and look at what is good and right with the world instead of focusing on the negative and you will be much happier and more successful. It’s not easy thing to do but it does work.

                  • Cal-Fire. Seasonal says:

hey when im taking a cat nap i BETTER be dragged away by you. but dont take too long i gotta get back to the fire-line ;)

                • Bill Vincent says:

Just felt the need to agree with you on many points. You WERE born at an unfortunate time, but look at it as a challenge an opportunity, so that I may be proud to look at you from retirement while you run the world.

                • Jack says:

So you would have rather been born in lets say the dark ages or how about being one of the native americans who were hunted and killed for sport during manifest destiny. or if you still think this time period sucks how about being in the cultural revolution.

        • Kuromisa says:

Mm, no firemen in my life recently, but we had a Marine helping with Toys for Tots at work recently. That was nice. <3 Kinda wanted to drag him home!

  7. dcbooknurse says:

Please, can’t we give these good men and women something more comfortable to sleep on? Sleeping bags, air mattresses, something? To work to the point where you can actually fall asleep on a sidewalk…. they deserve better.

    • NinjaPacman says:

      Word.

    • Mr. J says:

I fought the fires down in Florida a few years ago. That was the longest summer of my life. It’s exhausting work. You never know when or where you will get a break. After work like that, most guys would rather crash out where they are than waste valuable down time waiting for cots.

      • Kuromisa says:

Wow…that’s truly heroic. That’s the best way I can say it–giving aall of yourself for others like that is the definition of a hero.
        -
Also…is your name a Batman reference? I mean, I definitely did not spend Saturday night watching the Batman Beyond movie on Cartoon Network…of course not. >.>

    • SpartanCanuck says:

When you’re that tired, you don’t care.

  8. TheCannyScot says:

‘Tis the sleep of the just.

  9. Tori says:

My dad and uncle are both firemen, and I grew up with this kind of stuff. Not only do they have to deal with fire, but they’re the first responders to everything from 911 calls to car accidents. They deserve a lot more credit than what they get.

  10. those guys fighting the fires deserve a lot more then a hand. they deserve a “bail out”. Why can’t we redirect our efforts and millions of dollars in the war into putting out “the fires” in our own country. Just a thought.

    Political Disgust

  11. oranegreen says:

These men are brave and strong people who risk their lives for complete strangers, and they’re sleeping on the SIDEWALK? Are there no cots for them? Not even a garbage bag you could lay down on the sidewalk for them like a makeshift sheet?

  12. froofrou says:

Ok, I’m a horrible person……..did anyone else, before they saw the picture that went with the caption, hear Rip Torn’s voice in their head? Something about a day’s pay for sleeping on the job?

  13. multifariosnature says:

I gotta say, when you’re that exhausted – the grass is soft enough!

  14. Sigh.. says:

I don’t get it, why didn’t they go to the other side! I heard the grass is always greener there.. and greener grass means more healthy, and therefor softer =D

  15. Vella says:

They need blankets, pillows, and teddy bears with little fire hats on them.

There should be a National Give a Fire (Wo)Man a Hug day.

  16. Watching, Waiting says:

Trust me, those men are more comfortable right now than they have ever been, as far as they’re concerned. Nothing makes the ground softer than being dead tired, and no longer having to carry pounds and pounds of equipment…

  17. wood turner says:

    They’ve earned a little rest.

  18. xoites says:

You would have to be utterly exhausted to be able to sleep at an angle on a thin strip of grass between the sidewalk and the street as these Fire Fighters are. That is about three days without sleep exhausted. When they awake their bodies will be nerve jangled and stiff with sleep deprivation still.

Fire Fighters are a rare breed. We can’t live without them and countless are only alive because of them.

    I wish them all well.

  19. Amanda says:

My husband is a firefighter. So are pretty much all the other males (and some females) that I know. It is hard work and as someone else pointed out, they don’t just do fires. They respond to everything from heart attacks to car crashes to back up security on domestic calls. They also must respond to large fires when they aren’t even on shift (like the guys in the pic are probably doing), sacrificing time with their family. People never tell them thank you except on 9-11. So next time you see someone wearing a firefighter shirt just tell them thank you for all the hard work they do. It will make their day!

  20. EMTs and Firefighters, awesome work and little rest. Pretty much anytime you see them, they are deserving a break.

    • fasfan says:

“awesome work and little rest.”???? Are you f’n kidding me? All they do all day is sit around the station watching tv waiting on a call. Yeah.. the reason everytime you see them they need a break, is because the only time you see them is when they leave to go on a run.

I don’t know what the hell the big deal about a fireman is. You put the wet stuff on the red stuff. And when you’re not doing that you’re an arrogant ass who thinks your better than everyone else. And it seems like volunteer firemen are the worst. They’re not even real firemen. They are at HOME when the alarm goes off. They put their fancy little lights on their small penis compensating big trucks and go to the firehouse if there is a fire. Other than that they work at someplace else and only use the lights for getting laid.

Meanwhile… i’m sitting in my patrol car 8 hours a day (sometimes more) on patrol DETERRING crime by my mere presence and saving lives everyday by making people obey traffic laws. But we don’t get any freaking credit. NOOOOO. So go ahead and idolize these guys who do nothing but sit around drinking coffee and washing their trucks and watching tv, and maybe.. just maybe… go on a fire run that lasts a few hours… once a month.

Oh.. and by the way.. My dad is still a fireman at 74 years old… he’s been doing it in one form or another for as long as I can remember…. also, both my brothers were volunteer firemen. My uncle and a cousin were both firemen too. So I do respect the job they do… but hey, even a monkey has enough sense not to run into a burning building.. lol.

      • Katherine says:

Lemme know when your house burns down.

      • Seth says:

Hilarious. Simply hilarious. I love it when people post this kind of thing. They think they are saying one thing, but they are making an even bigger statement about themselves, and they don’t even know it.

See, here’s the thing. No matter what the reason you got into policing, everyone is going to suspect that you are a power hungry douche, and that’s what made you want to be a cop. Fireman don’t have that kind of power. Nobody ever thinks that a fireman ever got into fighting fires for the power. It’s just automatically assumed that fireman are selfless.

Now, here is what you can do to rectify the situation. Don’t be a douche. Don’t let other cops get away with being a douche. Oops, you have to let them be douches, don’t you? Can’t rat on a brother in blue. There is your damn problem. Get it? Yeah, you are always and forever going to play second fiddle to fireman because firemen don’t protect power hungry douches. And it’s your own fault because you ARE just power hungry douches, otherwise, why would you protect each other when you abuse that power?

        • fasfan says:

You know what’s really funny? When people take something too seriously. I posted that partially because it’s true, but mostly to see what kind of response i’d get. You know what else is funny? People who say things like “They think they are saying one thing, but they are making an even bigger statement about themselves, and they don’t even know it.” to make themselves sound smarter than they actually are.

It’s automatically assumed that firefighters are selfless? That policemen are power hungry? What happened in life that made your world so sad? You see, the way I see it.. Most volunteer firemen I know ARE power hungry jerks. They think they are something special just because they get to put red lights on their small-penis-compensating-big-pick-up-trucks. You want to know something about selflessness? How about KNOWING that police work is a thanksless unnappreciated job and STILL going into it. I say going into it because you don’t choose to be a police officer.. you are called. It’s not for everyone.. Firemen know that when they choose that career that they will be admired for it, no matter how big of a jerk they are. Now.. again. i’m not saying all firemen are jerks, and i’m not saying all policemen are cool. It’s a job just like every other job. Only… as a policeman you know you are not going to be appreciated but you still do it. A fireman knows he’s going to be admired just by having that light on his truck.. so you tell me.. which do you really think is selfless? I say it’s the guy that gets up and goes to work knowing that for that whole shift people hate him without even knowing him and yet he still does it.

On another note.. who still uses the word “douche?” I mean come on.. you wanna talk about saying something that says something about the person saying it….. What’s the matter kid, some cop take your dope? Write you a speeding ticket? What did you do to get the cops to come after you that now you don’t like us? lol… it was a joke.. grow up.

      • You have my pity for your life must be very hollow to take offense at this comment page. I actually like cops. This comment thread just happens to be about firemen. Are you that threatened that we aren’t talking about cops because that might say something about yourself rather than the group you are trying to deride.

        • Minerva146 says:

Maybe he was upset by the “Oppression, The Musical” caption??

        • fasfan says:

Maybe he was just joking around trying to make a point and get someone to giggle? I am not threatened.. I find it humerous. Truth is I understand that about 92% of PunditKitchen is liberal leftists and therefore wouldn’t appreciate the job the police do. So I just wanted to ruffle some feathers… apparently nobody read the end where I mention that I have/had many family members in the firefighting line of work. But come on… there are some arrogant assholes in both lines of work…… actually in ALL lines of work come to think of it.. lol

          • froofrou says:

You mentioned having family members in the firefighting line of work, and immediately called them all assh*les. What are we supposed to think? That you were only calling THOSE guys idiots and not firefighters as a whole? Oh, wait, you DID call firefighters as a whole idiots. To quote: “And when you’re not doing that you’re an arrogant ass who thinks your better than everyone else.”
            -
GO HOME until you learn not to troll.

            • fasfan says:

Well aren’t you a little genius? I’m already home.. where do you think i’m writing all this stupid stuff from.

You guys take this crap too seriously.. what part of “Maybe he was just joking around trying to make a point and get someone to giggle?” didn’t you understand? Maybe it was the English part.

Thank you all for not disappointing me and giving me something to giggle about while i’m at work.

And I don’t even know what “to troll” means.. so I guess your stuck with me there… lol..

Stop taking everything so seriously. Life is short and you’re not going to get out alive. So lighten up. Learn to joke a little. Feel free to be politically incorrect.

              • Maybe when you’re funny we will actually laugh… Basically you just blasted a entire group of workers, including members of your own family and then complained about how you are’t appreciated.

Sooooo, where was the joke again?

                • Minerva146 says:

I took offense to the assumption that liberals don’t appreciate law enforcement as well. We teach our kids that they’re there to protect us and that it’s a tough job that not just anybody can do. It takes a special kind of person to do well. Why would they assume I don’t respect or don’t care for law enforcement? I pay taxes and am grateful for the public safety services. Broad brush fail.

      • TruckTrash says:

You know what cops and firemen have in common? They both took the fire dept. entrance exam. :D

      • fire_bugs says:

It’s sad that your local fire departments are so lazy. Where I live the paid firefighters are not allowed to be in living quarters between 8am and 5pm. They have to be doing something. Training, checking hydrants, inspecting buildings, etc. They also are not allowed to have any kind of light or siren on their personal vehicles. Hopefully your local department will continue to have only one small fire a month because it sounds like they aren’t prepared for anything more. (And I totally agree with you about volunteers.)

Have fun sitting in your patrol car in front of the Dunkin’ Donuts eating jelly filled donuts and deterring crime with your mere presence! ;)

  21. deezle says:

I was gonna make a joke cuz I didn’t kno the backstory, but after reading the posts and figuring it out, I’m not gonna

  22. Snippy McPhail says:

These guys deserve pillow, pie, and a good beer!!

… and dammit they need more credit!! Seriously… I couldn’t sleep on a sidewalk unless I was dead tired….

  23. Heather Mac says:

Oh, wow. This made me all teary-eyed. Awesome pic, great caption!

  24. I think that is one of the such a lot vital info for me. And i am glad studying your article. However wanna remark on few normal issues, The website style is great, the articles is really nice : D. Just right job, cheers
