It’s been long enough that the sting is gone, but yes, it is hard. He had lived a really good life, though. And he went while in his chair watching TV, which was a happy place for him. The only place he would have been happier would have been out in the pasture working. He was one of those men (and Papa was a Man, capital M) who worked from sun up to sun down and ate like a lumberjack.

There is an industry in the USA, funded by right wing think tanks, in manufacturing evidence to discredit Democratic politicians. Since this photo was from when Daschle was being attacked by the Bush cabal (right before his office was attacked by an anthrax letter), I have no problem believing this is part and parcel of the same attack.

In all seriousness, my Papa (Mom’s dad) was born with his heart upside down and on the wrong side of his chest. They didn’t find it out until he had his first heart attack at 70 because he had a fear of doctors and never went. I guess that’s ok since he lived so long. He passed at 75 after bypass surgery. ‘Twas a blood clot that did him in : (

No they don’t make an excellent case. Snopes.com makes an excellent case that it is photoshopped. Look at his jacket. It is NOT buttoned correctly. The left side is on top! Men’s clothing does not button that way. They just reversed him from the neck down, that would take me all of thirty seconds, and I wouldn’t have left that jagged line on his neck, either.

1. How do we know it’s been Photoshopped? The above commenters have made an excellent case that it was not.

2. If it indeed has been Photoshopped, I would wonder what strange whim would have inspired a person who appears to be so phenomenal at Photoshop to undertake such a seemingly random task. His suit is buttoned correctly, he’s looking in the right direction, the shadows are not backwards, as they would be if someone had switched his arms, and you can clearly see the indent on his jacket where his hand is resting. It looks so real, it’s as if it’s a real, unaltered photograph.
