Well, I know we call him “Juan”, but his Mexican ID says “Juan Carlos Jorge Jiminez-Interian Gonzales”. Worse yet are the nicknames that are to mexican names what “Chuck” is to “Charlie”, ie, not clearly realted.

What is the name of the ideology whence comes the idea of using government spending ostensibly to prime the economy but actually to fund an agenda and then delaying paying for it until the choice between higher taxes and inflation becomes unavoidable, then doing both? That’s a lot of words. Give it to me in one or two. Pragmatic Keynsianism? Short-term populism?

Basically it works like this: We take money enough to give every man, woman, and child in this country $2,750. But we don’t give it to them. We give it to:

-Companies that are failing.
-Companies that aren’t failing yet, but are doing the same things that the failing companies did.
-Companies that do something that looks cool.
-Non-profits that brown-nose the federal government.

And that makes the economy work better. Why, if we had tried this 20 years ago, then today you could hop on an Eastern Airlines flight with your mini-disc player in hand, stopping in the lobby to check on your arbitrage as you head off to Hands Across America ’09.

That’s not what he said…there’s some pretty major penalties for employers who either knowingly or negligently hire foreign workers without the proper immigration credentials. Apparently PM is tasked with ensuring that his company’s in compliance and out of trouble, which means checking to make sure anyone hired is working legally. I’m pretty sure he’s not deporting them, just not hiring them!

I don’t know…I have had a similar issue. Some of the kids I work with are of Mexican decent and sometimes it is difficult to get their real names without documentation. Most of the kids we get cannot present a birth certificate or Social Security Number (and even some of those are Aliases).

Many of the documents we recieve have a number of Aliases only which they (or their parents) had been using at one time or another and it makes it tough to sort out who a court officer is ACTUALLY looking for…

Oh, argh. Another pet peeve of mine – standardized form with too little space. It often happens that I have to give an address which is positively unusable because the space for “street name and number” is made for someone who lives on “Main St 1012″, whereas mine needs 21 signs, counting spaces. (And having three “first” names, I rarely can give my full name when promted to do so, either. :p)
