As a child that was adopted and found a loving home, I know adoption is a good thing. I learned I cannot have children of my own in the past few years, and I am perfectly okay with it. I know if I want to share my life with a child, I can adopt. I want to adopt a child 3+ years in age, because I want to give someone as good a life(or better) then I’ve had.

Well.. I’m currently sitting in my double-wide trailor (and I’m far from a redneck, I’m from the city and I have two college degrees, my first I received at age 19) collecting disability (for multiple mental problems and a few physical problems to boot), and I’m not insulted. Although I worked my ass off before collecting disability. I’m only 32, and it wasn’t an easy choice. I want to mention here that I don’t plan on having children ever and do not have any now. Also, I’m living here in this trailor because I moved in with my friend and his mother, and they JUST happen to own a trailor.

I suppose you consider me the scum of the earth, judging from your hostility.

BTW– coming from someone with three mental disorders, who comes from a family who all had mental problems, I think you need to take a deep breath… because if people think I’m crazy, what do they say about those who are supposed to be sane when they react like that?

My mom took in foster kids when I was a kid, she took in special needs kids because (1) not many people are willing to deal with that and (2) my brother had special needs so she knew how to cope. When I got older she wasn’t able to do foster care but we would take in the neibhorhood kids that aged out. Several of the people on our street used foster care as an income source and when the turned 18 my mom would take them in and help them to find jobs and housing. It is a rough system.

To me, this is less an issue of ‘pro-choice’ than ‘informed consent’. By making the decision to have the treatment in the first place, despite the six children she already had at home, and her inability to provide a reasonable standard of care for them, she is demonstrating that she is not mentally healthy enough to make the choice in the first place.

It seems similar to me to the idea behind safe/sane/consensual BDSM. A person may have a castration fetish, and may enjoy role playing around that, but if they were to make the decision to actively seek a permanent physical operation (usually performed by dodgy amateurs or struck-off practitioners) they would therefore demonstrate that they may be in need of attention
from a mental health practitioner.

If that makes sense?

Her sanity is long gone, my friend. If you have 6 embryos implanted in you (2 of them split) when you already have 6 kids who are already here that you can’t take care of, then you’ve clearly flown over the cuckoo’s nest.

There’s been speculation that she’s had plastic surgery to look like Angelina Jolie. I saw some older pictures of her, and I saw the recent ones. Her lips are noticably larger. Her nose also seems slightly different, but it could just be the angel of the camera. If this woman wants to be Jolie, she fails. Hard. Jolie is a millionaire who can afford to care for a villiage of children. Nadya lives in her parent’s 3 bedroom house and is on food stamps. Jolie, as far as we can tell, has a stable mental health. Nadya is clearly nuts. Jolie can afford to hire nannies and babysitters to watch the kids while she’s working. Nadya relies on her mother to watch the kids (I believe her father went back to Iraq as a translator/driver to help support the kids she already had), and if she still has her kids when they get older, chances are she’s going to have to rely on the older kids to watch the octuplets like many large families (such as the Duggars) do. Jolie also gets bonus points for taking kids out of poverty and into a good home.

The problem is that the -good- foster parents are never noticed. While the -Bad- Foster parents get noticed almost immediately by everyone but the people weeding them out. We had a couple down the street that were some really
awful foster parents but did nothing -truly- wrong. They just let the kids run wild, they would break into peoples porches so they could wreck stuff… things like that.

Actually the Duggars use their elder children to care for the younger children. Hence why only Gramma Duggar was present in the house while Jim Bob and Michelle went on vacation. And why there was so much chaos when the older girls went to Florida with the oldest boy to help out with wedding stuff.

(They’re ending up my thesis topic in sociology, actually. About how one family can literally be so selfish with the earth’s space and resources that they’d send 100,000+ disposable diapers to the landfills)

(actually just a paper on incredibly huge families and the methods they DO NOT employ that is the cause of the decline of the earth)

Jumping in a bit late here, but my friend and her husband adopted a teenager of a different race, and things could not have turned out better for everyone involved. Here’s a kid who never had a stable home and, after years of being in the foster system, never expected a family of his own or much of a future. He’s now part of a huge, affectionate extended family, he’s with parents who never thought they’d have their own child and are absolutely crazy about and supportive of him, and whose lives are now, as they put it, “complete”, and he’ll be off to college in fall 2010. I wish more adopters and agencies would look to this family as an example of how well adoptions both of older children and children of different races can turn out.

As for Ms. Suleman, she admits in interviews to having no income, yet claims she provides for her children. Really? How does that work?

Oh, and about 3 weeks early. Annoyingly enough, I couldn’t convince anyone that I was in labor until my water broke. They kept telling me I didn’t know what I was talking about as she was my first and it “wasn’t time yet.” (Not medical people, it was her dad and my parents…)

Actually, as her dad managed to lose two jobs the week she was born, we probably would have qualified at the time! She’s perfectly awesome now, graduated from college last year. She does have a learning disability (althought she’s quite smart — as I understand it’s sort of like dyslexia, only with math) but I don’t think that had anything to do with being a preemie.

Why should I work over 50 hours a week and never see my kids, all to support deadbeats who would rather get a free ride from tax-payers than actually go get a job or at least TRY to get one. Or to pretend they are “disabled” so they can milk the system for as long as possible. It’s not fair and I don’t believe those people deserve an OUNCE of sympathy or kindness. Maybe you & Fester have enough money to spare, but I sure as f-ck don’t.

A lot of the ‘hypocrisy’ stems from viewing the fetus as innocent and not deserving to die, while the grown man (or woman) who chopped someone into tiny pieces with an axe prime bullet fodder. It seems hypocritical if you’re only looking at the ‘death vs life’ and not the fact that the murderer (or rapist or whatever, insert your favorite crime here) is old enough to make the desision that could lead to him getting executed for his troubles.

Very good point. I have 3 kids and can barely handle them. And as much irritation as I have for her, I also feel very sorry for her because no human being can take care of that many kids and keep their sanity. Those poor kids. Though I think she’ll end up having a staff of nannies or something, i’m sure she’ll find a way to get that free too.
As much as id like to sit back & enjoy her drowning in responsibility and losing her mind, the only ones getting hurt by that are those kids.
But you don’t have to have lots of kids to be crazy enough to kill them, look at that nutjob Casey Anthony. She had the cutest & sweetest kid on earth and murdered her.

Comp is, indeed, a regular check during periods of disability (or partial disability) caused by an on-the-job injury. It also pays for your medical care for the on-the-job injury, and (at least in most states) if the injury causes a permanent injury or permanent physical restrictions (e.g., lost a leg, etc.) the injured worker can very often get a lump-sum settlement rather than getting partial disability over a longer period of time. (All this varies from state to state, and I’ll openly admit I am completely ignorant of California’s comp laws as I don’t practice there!) And, yes, since it’s a (somewhat lesser) fill-in for your regular paycheck because you got hurt doing your job and can’t do it for a time, you can damn well spend it on whatever you’d normally spend your paycheck on, including beer.
