As I recall, one of the issues in favor of non-embryonic stem cells is that embryonic stems are hard to come by. They’re not exactly handing them out in your local Wal-Mart. This makes them impractical for mass-produced treatments.

Of course, we’re still talking about research, and there’s more than enough embryos to go around for that, provided you can keep the cultists at bay.

I believe in God, but I still believe he created science. I believe he created a very primitive basis of life and left it to figure itself out. “Talking” to people on here and getting exposed to other beliefs in college I still believe a lot of Biblical truths, but I also believe in evolution. If you believe in creationism, that is your choice, but I know how easy it is to be narrow-minded.

NO, they are not. They ARE bringing SOME of the same things, and a few unique discoveries to the table (the silver lining of the Bush policy is the advances made in this arena that I think would not have been explored otherwise). They are not able to do all that embryonic stem cells have already been shown to have potential for. FYI, for anyone willing to hear rational thoughts on this issue, we destroy hundreds of thousands of embryos as part of the invitro fertilization industry in America every year- once these embryo’s were put to good use, THEN the Anti-Choice brigade got up in arms. It was due to this insanity that I actually started to investigate SCIENCE- not ANYTHING on pro-life or pro-choice site- actual peer reviewed journal articles and became a Pro-Choice person instead of neutral- I was raised Catholic, and I have boundaries regarding abortion- but the rhetoric proved to be lies told to support beliefs, not reality from what I found- so there you go.

Actually, I HAVE heard that happens, but I heard it can have devastating effects on both the mother and the fetus.
I’ll have to do some more reading about the non-lethal infiltration.

It is known that fetal cells occasionally enter the maternal circulatory system, because the result is a documented medical tragedy. In cases where the fetus has the red blood cell D antigen of the Rh group (that is, the fetus is Rh positive) and the mother does not (that is, she is Rh negative), the entry of fetal blood cells into the mother’s blood will cause an immune response against the antigen. The mother will produce antibodies against the D antigen, and these will cross the placenta and start destroying the fetal red blood cells, a condition called hemolytic disease of the newborn. Because of advances in medical knowledge and diagnostic tools, this condition is largely preventable and curable.
