Television rots the mind. Instead of watching the boob toob waiting passively for sanitized news approved by news stations (which are owned by weapons manufacturers, i.e. they will not give you any information which would cut into their own bottom line) turn off your f*cking tv and actively search for the news you want online.

I’m still waiting for Rush to move to Costa Rica since he promised he would if health care reform were passed in the states, and they have. So now he can get Costa Rica’s socialized medicine instead of the US’s.

Jon Stewart is a medieval clown. You may not agree with what he says, but you must at least acknowledge that he tries to speak truth to power in a way that is not often seen on television. That honesty reveals details that might otherwise go undetected.

He’s obviously biased–and I happen to share his bias 94% of the time–but he does 2 things that most “journalists” don’t. First, he gives everyone a fair shake (anyone see his John Bolton interviews, or Bolton’s comments on Stewart’s interviews?). Second, he sticks to his guns when important guests dodge his questions or dismiss him as merely another platform from which to sell their wares. I’ll continue to watch him, even if I don’t share his opinion, because I understand where he’s coming from, and he’s not coming from a point of view dictated by sponsors or partisans.

At the same time, it’s not a double standard. He harps on the fact that his show is fake news with no journalistic standards. The people he goes against, however, do. So if these people want to level the playing field while talking to Stewart, they can simply renounce their status as a trusted news source.

Yeah. At least John calls it comedy and admits it’s biased. That being said, the above picture is true and I agree with it. The news has gone SO far downhill. For example, “OMG, which dog should Obama get?” on Fox and CNN.

Stepping outside of one’s campaign message to point out – in public – that one’s supporters are misbehaving: major win.

It’s worth reminding us here, though, that the right, and in particular the religious right in the United States have made a long habit of the same kind of inciting to violence: from Sarah Palin’s campaign rallies to the antiabortion rights movement’s constant insistence that those who disagree with them are committing “murder” (and Bush’s eager assent to that kind of language) to Bill O’Reilly’s creepily Stalinist “enemy of the state” comment to essentially everything that Ann Coulter has ever written.

What you’re suggesting would definitely be the right thing for Obama to do, but his failure so far to do it is far from the worst example of this.
