once upon a time with the older kiddoes, i let the dishes pile up in their rooms, except for a couple plates, bowls & glasses that i hid. come dinner time they looked very baffled by the idea that i was sitting to the table with dishes and they had none. when they finally asked why they didn’t have dishes, i told them their dishes were in their rooms where they’d walked off to. then they asked what they were supposed to eat off of, i gave them a choice: the clean dog dishes (freshly washed) or they could bring down all the dishes from their rooms…. i did get some back that way, for a while. is it a cure, no… but it is torture and does have some redeeming qualities to it.
oldest ended up with couple roommates that were much worse than
anyone could imagine – they’d take dishes outside and lose them or
take them to work and leave them behind. she went through several sets of dishes in just a few years. middle was/is ocd so now that she is on her own, she’s very good about her things. youngest… she was too young to be in on this cure at the time and now, well too late comes to mind. maybe when she is on her own too? but more likely she’ll live with someone who’ll pick up after
her like she expects me to.

Lol, if you can figure out the answer to getting them to stop leaving half-full and/or empty glasses in their rooms, let me know….when I wash dishes and notice we still only have maybe 3 or 4 clean glasses I always know to go look in my son’s room.

Yeah, I meant optimistic in the sense that maybe a part of your mind is thinking “maybe if I explain this really carefully, they’ll actually get it.” The fact that I view that as optimistic rather than just normal probably shows that I tend to be somewhat pessimistic myself. (My ex was a northern atheist
knuckledragger rather than the southern fundy variety, but I can relate to what you are talking about!)

thanks for the spelling correction – never was my forte —
optimistic? lol, lol…. have to tell my oldest about that, most people describe me as extremely pessimistic. hate the glass being half full/half empty – as a parent, those choices are totally pointless when faced with a dirty glass masquerading science project hiding in the kid’s room and who had to wash the dang thing anyway.
masochist is interesting, but after my connection to a southern fundy knuckle-dragger, i’m working on sadist “i miss my ex, but my aim is getting better” kind of thing. so maybe i’m at the phase of sado-masochism – a bit of both?

@ Dhoti: just out of curiousity’s sake, have you ever heard of non-disclosure agreements or confidentiality agreements?
when a lawsuit of this nature is settled out of court there are normally contracts drawn up that stipulate financial renumeration. normally the second clause is a non-disclosure clause (gag on discussing any and all details of said lawsuit). since the lawsuit is settled out of court, there are few, if any, documents that are available for research as public information. therefore, searches of every single case will not give you any information regarding who received monetary compensation regardless of what the claims in the suit were. nor will you find any judgements that cover the validity of those claims since a judge never settled the cases settled out of court.
