The owner of the meat market where we get our pigs butchered lost her hand and wrist in a grinder accident many years ago. I didn’t ask her what they did with the “sausage” that resulted.

Heh. I used to work in a smoked salmon factory. The salmon is usually sliced by a slicer that basically goes back and forth – it’s got n interlock for safety but everybody breaks it because holding the fish next to the blade helps it slice better. One day, someone (inevitably) cut their finger off. After packing them off to hospital with their fingertip, the fish had the blood rinsed off it and it was silently packed and shipped.

Oh yeah, and Lula lost his fingers in a car factory, so it’s probably behind someone’s dashboard.

We had Mr. Evans in 7th grade woodshop. Missing most of his middle and ring fingers on his left hand thanks to a band saw and belt sander…obviously not at the same time, although it’d make a great story. It always made me wonder…if the “expert” was getting fingers sheared off, what makes the school board think this is such a good idea for seventh graders?

Of course, now, kids can get fingers amputated during shop…they just can’t bring aspirin into school from home…
