Actually, Al Gore was the one who signed Kyoto- Clinton was smart enough not to hang his name on Kyoto, too. He knew it was a stinker of a treaty back in the 90s.

But that was symbolic. What actually matters for treaties is the Senate vote on ratification, and that never happened. All Bush did was tell the world what everyone in DC already knew- that Kyoto would never be ratified.

Seriously, that one wasn’t Bush’s fault…. and the guy screwed up enough stuff that there’s no need to make up additional things to blame on him.

It’s funny because the “more senior” (president of the USA) shook hands with the policeman, whereas the prime minister, Gordon Brown (who was right behind Obama and just out of shot) didn’t. The policeman offered his hand and Gordon just walked away.

This will nest so far from the original post that it’s probably pointless, but I’m a noob, so….

Be careful how you interpret the CDC statements there. It’s not really saying what it seems to imply. The fact that 6% of the reported adverse events were serious (vs. an average of 10-15%) does not by itself mean that serious adverse events were less (or more) common than with other vaccines. It could just mean that fewer non-serious adverse events got reported, which may be likely for a vaccine routinely given to 12 year olds rather than 0-2 year olds like most others. I’m not saying the HPV vaccines are unsafe, just that the 6% factoid by itself doesn’t really mean much. Given the prevalence of HPV-linked cancers, I think anyone who is or may become sexually active is much safer getting the vaccine.
