Close, but the actual sentiment seems not to be “ALL politicians suck,’ but rather “EVERYONE ELSE’S politicians suck.”

That is why Congress had a 9 to 11% national approval rating heading into the 2008 elections, but had something like 94% incumbency re-election rate.
Everyone votes their own guy back in because he’s bribing them or they are too lazy to study the alternatives (“our guy’s one of the few good ones up there!”), and then tells everyone else that they should vote their guy out (“it’s everyone else that’s the problem”).

What a system!

as long as steak doesn’t get up and walk off the plate under it’s own power, it’s cooked long enough! i like mine with a nice char on the outside, but not in more than 1/8 in or so. and must be cool on the inside
other cravings – chocolate often is for additional fats; fruit depending on the type can be for vit’s & minerals or for water; be careful of any cravings for salting things, watch your ankles and fingers for swelling…

If you don’t like it, get involved at the local level. It’s hard to have an individual effect at the national level because you’re one person of 300 million or so Americans, but you can have an effect at the local level. Join the party of your choice and start attending meetings. See what work you can do to motivate your local area to move in the direction you want.

Portland Mark the problem with your thinking is that the politicians don’t care what WE think anymore. They vote the way the guys on K street tell them to, because the guys on K street pay for their re-election campaigns. The K street lobbyists and lawyers are making billions off of a broken tax code, and they are more than willing to spread that wealth around to get their own ideals made into law. That’s part of what the TEA parties were about, vote all the bums out, get new everything and then give them term limits.

they need to get the laid off line workers from GM, chrysler, etc to be the third party. or the working mother of 3 who can’t pay for food because she’s making hardly above minimum wage.

it irks me to see these people (i’m using a VERY broad brush) who have a ton of money, as evidenced by tons of campaign posters and commercials, get a job in congress and then get a salary WAY above that of their average constituent. you can’t possibly convince me that a kennedy needs a congress persons salary… they’re kinda set for life. most of those rich old bastards are set.

maybe each congress person should be paid the same as the average pay of their constituents. the guy from rural michigan would be making like $1.75/year and the guy from NYC would make quite a bit more… but then at least they’re in touch with their people and understand what it’s like to live on that sort of income. if the guy representing rural michigan is making in the 100s then there’s no way he understands what it’s like for his constituents.

I prefer my steak to not still be kicking and mooing, but to each her own! Just keep up with the iron and protein, somehow–ice cream, raisins, licorice…whatever is tastiest!
I haven’t had ‘speedy beef’ in years–my father used to provide us with what we called Bambi burger, but I had to be careful about that around my veggie friend… Her loss, though!

I’m lucky. No allergies whatsoever. And we eat steak probably twice a month. We’d eat it more often but we ran out of venison and there’s a recession on Hubby hates watching me eat steak though. I like mine rare. Moo-ing rare. I want to try steak tartar if I can find a good recipe…….

I’ve heard that early pregnancy is a real energy-sink. The one thing that does come to mind is that your little one to be is going to win in any tug-of-war for Calcium, iron and protein. Dreaming of steak?–it’s a sign to eat some! I’ve also heard (from a midwife) that headaches are a sign of protein-deficit. It might not be a cure-all, but paying attention to the message behind food cravings might be useful.
Of course if you were in the northeast, I would start asking you about allergies, because of the pollen counts–hard to get all excited when one is sneezing!

Honestly, there isn’t a good answer. But having these idiots vote on their own pay raises is just silly. Maybe we should do it like California did last week, and send it to the people. I love that California said that their state legislators aren’t allowed pay raises of any kind while the state is in deficit. That’s how it needs to go.

Well, add me to the list of the heartbroken. I supported a Democratic representative with a well-known and respected name in this state (his last name was Carnahan, which everyone should remember from when Mel Carnahan beat John Ashcroft for a senate seat FROM THE GRAVE here in Missouri, but this wasn’t Mel we’re talking about). I went door to door for this guy, and after he gets elected, he totally flip flops on issues I supported. So I felt betrayed, but surprised. I’m never voting for him again.

My wife more recently supported her doctor’s wife who was running for Missouri treasurer as well. Sadly, she didn’t win the primary. She would’ve been good for the job. Unfortunately, I don’t think this ass backwards state is ready for a black jewish woman treasurer…or black jewish woman anything. My state sucks.
