  2. smarti22 says:

So, does anyone know what’s the deal with the photograph pinned to his chest?

  3. Eric-in-STL says:

Didn’t we JUST see this one?

    • ubr says:

i think it’s still on the front page… why isn’t there any pics on the iranian revolution that is currently under way?

      • Better get on that one, ubr. I’ve seen some YouTube footage, surely there’s still pics also…

        • ubr says:

          check these out diss…
frankly i’m amazed at some of the images…

          • Deep Thought says:

            Holy sh!t.

          • Thanks for the link, ubr. Some of those are just mindblowing. I …can’t think of anything funny, though. Too soon?

            • ubr says:

considering that we usually use “too soon” in mockery i hesitated to use that phrase… but it sure does fit here… the only pic i saw that we could possibly do a caption on were the ones of the iranian police getting the sh!t kicked out of them by the crowds… that or the one where the iranian women are sitting on the ground and you can only see the boots of their oppressors…

          • PortlandMark says:

I’m sure the Ayatollahs are remembering that this is kind of what their revolution looked like thirty years ago. It would be a real game changer for the young people in Iran to take their country back from the extremists in power right now!

            • ubr says:

all i can say is that iran has made a “mockery of democracy”… if we ever had an election that wound up with a 40% margin of victory in what was a national election i hope that we would riot too…
and yes, that will probably be the first and last time that lieberman and i agree on anything…

              • Czernobog says:

Personally, I’m not sure they have a legitimate beef (with the election, that is. The tactics employed in quelling the riots are certainly insupportable.) Of Iran’s 66 million people only 16 live in the three large cities, where Musawi is more popular. The rural population, more traditional and less informed, support Ahmadinejad religiously. The population of the U.S is relatively homogeneous.
It’s demonstrated (or so I’ve read, haven’t seen the movie myself) in Peter Lom’s documentary “letters to the president.” [link]
And the one caption I thought of making was “So Khamenei decided to pick his own underling for once, is that what you’re mad about?”

                • ubr says:

did you know that according to the election results moussavi’s ethnic group and home town did not vote for him? there are more divisions in iran than just poor and rich people…
“the population of the US is relatively homogenous” – are you f—ing kidding me? did you already forget the elections WE HAD IN NOVEMBER?!!!??!
your whole point with your comment seems to be that iran is already a dictatorship and therefore we shouldn’t expect anything from their elections except more of the same. the problem is that the iranians believe that they live in a democracy and when they woke up in a dictatorship they started fighting against it.
would you have trusted election results that had a 40% margin of victory in favor of mccain?

                  • Czernobog says:

RELATIVELY. Relatively homogeneous. And I don’t see how your elections have any relevance. Obama does not come from a ghetto.

The part about Moussavi’s home town I did not know, and if it’s true then they most certainly have a legitimate beef. I would, however, like to know your source.

And I’m not making a distinction between “rich and poor” I’m making a distinction between the progressive, modern society that can be found in the three major cities with the traditional, religious, and insular society found in the rural areas.

I would not have trusted an election that ended in a 40% margin, no, but I live in a relatively homogeneous society as well.

            • Harkness says:

You wish. Just because Moussavi is labeled as a “moderate” that doesn’t mean he’d introduce great democratic reforms to Iran (even if he wanted to). But I agree with you, he’s definitely the better candidate. But somehow I don’t think his movement will make it…

          • bad fairie says:

            second DT’s comment – holy sh!t
            .
thanks for the link ubr – not having a tv is good most of the time, but i miss out things like this. those pics are reminisent of when they overthrew the shah, and events are probably just as deadly this time as the last time iran revolted, but i hope this revolt succeeds all the same. iran was a ‘progressive’ nation 30 yrs ago until ayatollah khomeini and his ilk dragged them back to the 14th cent.

  9. Bonbon says:

I have read a short article in Vogue mentioning that Muammar al-Gaddafi’s uniform is allegedly designed by an Italian designer.

Afghanistan president’s blanket that he always wears is of Gucci.
