well, what DID he say? Oh, 1st! hahaha

  2. factory says:

He said “thou shall not say first”

  3. Lol says:

Very true. God doesn’t hate any of his creation. He doesn’t even hate those people that say he hates everything.

  4. Lolnathan says:

If there was a God, this photo would show those freaks being hit with a lightning bolt. These types of people really challenge my peaceful ways.

    • Beth says:

There is a God, and the reason He’s not striking these people with a lightning bolt is because He’s extending GRACE to them. If He struck everyone with a lighting bolt that represented God in a bad way, we’d all be dead. But be sure, His judgment is coming!

However, I’m glad that who ever put this caption realizes that this one stupid little church does not accurately represent God nor other churches in America. These people are idiots.

      • Ceefax says:

Yeah, like the grace he showed when he murdered almost everyone on the planet with a flood.

        • They were asking for it with all their violence. That’ll teach ‘em.

          • yikes says:

Ever see the “Unforgiven”? “They were askin’ for it for what they done! Both of ‘em for what they done!!” Good movie.

        • I Like Peanut Butter says:

That was the Old Testament vengeful God. The New Testament peaceful God the one these people say they follow.

          • Jesus believed that the Old Testament was divinely inspired, the veritable Word of God. He said, “The Scripture cannot be broken” (John 10:35). He referred to Scripture as “the commandment of God” (Matthew 15:3) and as the “Word of God” (Matthew 15:6). He also indicated that it was indestructible: “Until Heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass away from the law, until all is accomplished” (Matthew 5:18).

When dealing with the people of His day, whether it was with the disciples or religious rulers, Jesus constantly referred to the Old Testament: “Have you not read that which was spoken to you by God?” (Matthew 22:31); “Yea; and have you never read, ‘Out of the mouth of infants and nursing babes thou hast prepared praise for thyself’?” (Matthew 21:16, citing Psalm 8:2); and “Have you not read what David did?” (Matthew 12:3). Examples could be multiplied to demonstrate that Jesus was conversant with the Old Testament and its content. He quoted from it often and He trusted it totally.

So, Jesus supported all that was written in the Old Testament. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

            • froofrou says:

He had to cite known sources. You can’t just say “Well I said it and I’m God so there!” and have people believe you :-) And He was conversant and very well-versed in the OT because that was all they had back in the day to study. It was a heck of a lot easier to point people to something they already knew and could identify with than to make up more. If you read closely, He wasn’t ever downing the OT any more than He was saying it is the only way to go. He used it as source material to make a point.
              -
But I have to agree with PB in a way. It does seem that God got hold of some Prozac in between the OT and the NT.

              • eddiepscetti says:

And don’t forget that Jesus was also a Rabbi, which is why he was conversant in the OT. Also, I don’t believe that they carried the Torah around like people do with Bibles today. In order to read it, you had to go to the temple. And the truth is, I don’t think reading and writing were that common in his day.

                • PortlandMark says:

Interesting point about Jesus being a Rabbi, Eddie.

My Jewish friends tell me that, to be a Rabbi, a man must be married.

                  Isn’t that a thinker?

                • b127 says:

no…they posted it on their doorways, and often on their clothing….

              • What about Matthew 5:18-19?

“For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the lease of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and the Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”

Jesus seems to be endorsing the Old Testament pretty clearly here.

                • AC says:

I don’t see people’s problem with reconciling the old and new testaments. The first is the law, it’s judgement. It’s something flawed humans can’t follow. The second is God’s mercy and escape from that judgement. God’s mercy can also be found in the old testament and his judgement in the new. The law shows us how sinful we are and Jesus shows the way out of sin.
Our minister always said to rip a page out of your bible and throw it away: the page that divides the old and new testaments. They’re the same book.

                  • I Like Peanut Butter says:

PSST To let those quoting the bible know something. When that guy Jesus was strung up on that cross, he died for our sins. And be doing so, God turned into a forgiving loving God. He realized his heavy handed ways weren’t working (Damn that free will), so he opted to use the Love approach. I’d say the jury is still out whether it’s working or not.

                    • zeli says:

Now, ya see, that’s the one bit I just don’t get. What does “he died for our sins” MEAN????? It’s a phrase that may as well be in swahili for all the sense it makes to me.

If it means that he made a bargain, “Kill me but don’t punish those mortals for what they’ve done,” well okay then, I sort of get the gist.

My sins are being committed 2000 years later.. so does that mean that I now have open slather at sinning, happy in the knowledge that the contract still stands? Or did it only cover sins up to and including those at the date of the bargain?

Okay, so I’m a law student and a bit of a pest, but surely because of the doctrine of privity of contract, I can’t actually enforce a contract that was between god and jesus that I wasn’t a party to. So what guarantee is there that I still wont suffer a bit of smiting if god gets in a bolshie mood? And since I don’t believe in jesus, why should he bother enforcing the contract on my behalf?

These are the questions that got me expelled from scripture class, but got me a high distinction in contract law.

                      • Zarggg says:

Your comment possibly paints you as troll, but what the hell…

Jesus’s act of self-sacrifice was a blanket forgiveness of all the misdeeds humanity had previously done to God. Because of this, all those who believe in the love of God for His people, and believe that Jesus died in order to wash mankind of sin, will be accepted into Heaven when the universe is called to judgment by God at the end of time.

Of course, there is no guarantee. It has nothing to do with contract. Its’ all about Faith. That’s the point.

(Disclaimer: IANAC. I was just raised as one and happen to enjoy studying myth and religion.)

                    • AC says:

Why should he bother enforcing the contract on my behalf?
In case you’d like to take him up on his offer of redemption, perhaps?
Smartarsery aside, I think you know this.

            • Oros says:

If he said “Until Heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass away from the law, until all is accomplished” I’d like to understand why Christians believe they are exempt from all the laws like no pork and no shaving the temples (to mention the most common)?
Simply curious. It’s confusing, this Christianity business-too much segmentation (if that’s the right word).

        • g says:

If you had actually read the bible you would know that
the people were killing each other off by themselves
so in order to save the one righteous man alive, Noah, he sent the flood which killed the evildoers who were going to die anyway
and saved population by saving Noah and his family.

          • 1984 says:

Or he could just have snapped his fingers and made everyone a bit more good naturally.
Its like creating Frankenstein then complaining about what one has created. Or not fully understanding his own creation.

            Again…at best incompetent.

            • Zarggg says:

Yes, but where’s the fun in that?

            • ThisPersonHere says:

That would be against freewill, which is a gift from God to all of us. We have the power to choose right and wrong, and if He takes that away from us, we are just a bunch of robots. God wants us to love Him and each other because we want to, not because He’s using mind control. Think about it.

              • Tyler says:

What he’s trying to say is that he wonders why God didn’t make our nature a tiny bit better, not that he should have changed us all. I think he means there’d be less @ssholes in the world.

          • Ceefax says:

Yeah, evil doers like all those kids under ten he killed. He’s not very precise in his smiting, this evil, petty and vengeful God the bible speaks of.

      • Well, my judgement has already arrived, and it has concluded that the reason that these people and all other wankers haven’t been struck by lighting is because the odds are 1 : 400,000. But thanks for playing!

    • ThisPersonHere says:

Oh there is. He’s just not the god these people think he is. It’s a shame people call themselves Christians and then do horrible things like this.

      • Ceefax says:

Phelps is just as likely to be right about what God is as anyone else. Why do people never entertain the idea that they might disagree with God?

  6. Cattooth says:

I saw a documentary on these people, and I feel sorry for them. Their children are groomed to believe in things they don’t even understand. These people can’t properly distinguish parts from the bible correctly, its brainwashing at its worst.

    • Zuzz says:

I agree, the bible is brainwashing at its worst

      • yikes says:

The bible is a book, you are free to believe it or not, the brain washing is done by humans. Brain washing is done in the name of many things, not just religion.

        • mothergoose says:

Yikes, I have to agree with you on this one. Many people (including me) have read the Bible cover-to-cover and have formed their own opinions, without going out and holding repulsive signs like those people…

            I can’t believe I’m typing this, but I agree with mother… cough cough… ugh ugh… hmmm hmmm… goose… OWE I think I died a little inside, but I’m OK.

It’s ok these are the same people who would expect God to reach from the sky and save them from a flood. Quick turn on the water!!!

            • mothergoose says:

Could this be the 7th sign of the Armageddon??!! ;-)

See even Conservatives have their limits!!! Extemists in any group just give that group a bad name. The sad part is the 1st Amendment applies to these a-holes as well. just b/c people abuse a right, doesn’t mean it still isn’t theirs to abuse.

                • mothergoose says:

Oh my God! I think ILPB and I might ACTUALLY agree on this!!

Why does it have to be “White out”…are you a racist, or something?! (kidding…kidding…)

This group hides behind their 1st Ammendment Rights. They notoriously sue ANYONE who doesn’t issue them a permit or attempts to break them up when they “protest”…

                  • I Like Peanut Butter says:

Hey all the rights belong to all the American citizens (no one else though, it says so in the Constitution, ANOTHER brain washing tool btw) even if we don’t agree with it. Someone can burn the flag, it’s their right, however when the Big Burly biker comes up and smacks him, it’s the price he paid for that right!!!

                    • mothergoose says:

I wonder if these guys ever think about all the soldiers who died to protect their 1st Ammendment rights…

I readily admit that I’m a bit of a liberal, and was opposed to the war in Iraq, but would NEVER think about denegrating our troops. They go where they’re ordered. I have no problem with the troops. In fact, I’ve never seen anyone on this site who doesn’t respect them (I may be wrong, but I don’t think I am).

                      • the_original_shortright says:

there’ve been a couple of douche’s who had issues with the soldiers themselves… but they didn’t last long around these parts.

                        • D says:

Wait… “our troops”, or troops in general?
Hopefully being a “douche” for having issues with soldiers isn’t a “well, you know, American soldiers” sort of thing. I take it you have respect for the troops of all nations, including those that America is at war with/has been at war with in the past. If so, right on… but if not then you might want to do some deep thinking.

I don’t ~conceptually~ like soldiers, because I don’t like the military, because I don’t see logic in fighting with people’s lives. Factions fighting each other seems to me like a huge waste of life to settle a disagreement.

BUT, I’ve known some great people who were soldiers and proud of it, and they were right to be proud for being part of something they believed in. There have been numerous times throughout history where soldiers have defended against an aggressive force, and protected their own people and that is really honorable.

I guess I just wanted to state that it is possible to not *support* the military (of any country) on a large scale, but still respect the beliefs and efforts of the soldiers who are part of it. I accept the reality that many countries need soldiers to defend themselves against other soldiers/militants, but on a more idealistic level think the whole thing is pants-on-head ret@rded: both sides lose lives because there are people who are greedy, aggressive and violent and those people sometimes end up in powerful positions. If peacefulness, tolerance and diplomacy were more revered qualities in society, perhaps there would be fewer world leaders who go about warmongering and fewer fools to follow them.

Don’t get me wrong; defending yourself and your people against an aggressor is righteous. But the attitudes we cultivate by portraying the military as infallible might lead us to blindly support situations where these ‘defenders’ of ours are actually the invading force.

Soldiers wouldn’t risk their lives if they didn’t think they had a valid reason to. Each believes their side is righteous, and each army has repeatedly been told this belief is true. But they can’t both be ‘right’. Or, are they just fighting over an opinion? Maybe more time should be spent weighing the arguments of each side instead of just supporting the side your nation is on.

And yes, there will probably always be people out there who just want power and glory, and aggressive followers who will fight for them, and it can’t be solved with a “look, lets talk it over, I respect your beliefs” when their beliefs are that their faction should rule the world and they’ll kill all the weak in their way. But, the more people who are brought up with a sense of true justice, the wisdom to distinguish between right and wrong and the ability to use reasoning, the less people to support (or aggravate) the maniacs out there. Then when you fight against them, you know you are fighting the good fight, you know real reasons why you are fighting and you know you are true defenders. Not just taking orders for one side in a two-sided argument.

                        • the_original_shortright says:

D – who are you talking to? mothergoose mentioned “our troops” but you nested under me. but i was referring to douche’s on the board who have had hissy fits about “soldiers are murderers” and such.

                        • Like “Again”, for one…
*knocks wood and spits over shoulder so as not to summon*

                        • I Like Peanut Butter says:

D: Few things. You’re entitled to your thoughts (quite a few American Soldiers died to allow you that right), but I must find some fault in your logic:

I’ll start from the bottom up: You talk of “True justice” and “what is right”. Well your definition of “True Justice” and “what is right” is different than someone elses. And who are you to say that “talking things out” is the “right way” of doing things? It’s you’re right way of doing things, but forcing that on someone else who’s thoughts are different, is that right? To me that isn’t right. See where this logic takes us. We were given the ability (through God or evolution I don’t care) of free will. As long as humans have that will, it is their choice on how to use it. Once it is taken away though we will lose everything that is human about us. Free Will brings wonderful things as Art, music, buildings, new foods (especially new foods), but also brings us hate, jealousy, and war. We must always take the good with the bad. Without the bad, how could we appreciate the good.
Also there are many American Soldiers out there beliveing they are fighting the “good” fight. Protecting America from terrorists, freeing Iraqis who had been imprisonned grossly, had wives and daughters raped in front of them. Sometimes people fight for those who have no voice, what happens when you continually ask people stop, stop murdering, stop killing, stop starving your own people, and they continue to do it.
Also not every war is about greed and profit. I’m sorry but I find it hard to believe that we went into IRaq for oil. It’s hard for me to argue with people when they say that (I admit I lose my temper qucikly on that). I believe that diplomacy will almost never work due to each individuals belief they are right. Look at Israel. Both sides are “Right”. The Jews took that land from the Canaanites, and then were conquered by the Romans, who then lost the land to the Palestineans, who then lost it to the Turks, who then lost the land to the Crusaders, who then lost it back to the Turks, and then it was given to Israels after WWII as a “Sorry for letting Hilter almost eradicate you” gift. So who has more claim to that land? Diplomacy has been tried for 50 some years and it ain’t working there.

                        • D says:

@Peanut Butter – either my reply disappeared or is taking a really long time to get moderated. But, believe me… I replied, and it was long. :P

                          The short version:
-We have extremely different views, and there’s not a lot of use in debating them here. I 100% respect your beliefs, and you right to have and share those beliefs. I certainly did not try to force any of my views on anyone. I’m not saying I’m right, only that I believe in certain things, and I hope you also agree that your beliefs are only that.

-Furthermore: see link. I’m not sure it means what you think it means. There are schools of thought which deny the existence of free will, and this is a very large, long-running philosophical debate with lots of intelligent points by incredibly wise people on either side.

-I recognize my beliefs about free will as nothing more than beliefs – since the philosophical world at large has not come to any sort of conclusion, and there is no definite proof either way. So, you know, if it *is* free will, by it’s true definition, that you’re insisting we have and wouldn’t be human without then I don’t think I can really take that as a serious point and not just a statement of opinion. Unless you’ve spent like 20 years studying it. Then, maybe :P

If you just mean ‘freedom’, though… well, society is people trading “freedoms to” for “freedoms from” so I’m not sure if you’d limit the argument to freedoms we wouldn’t be punished for. If so, then that’s different from place to place. If not, then I’d argue that we’re not truly ‘free’ to do something if we’d be punished for it.

                        • D says:

Peanut Butter – Oh, and your first point was all wrong. I’m not American, never have been. You shouldn’t assume that!

                      • MLD says:

No soldier has died to protect my first amendment rights in my lifetime. They’ve died for plenty of other reasons. but those rights arent among them.

And lest you take that as denigrating soldiers–don’t. It’s being realistic about WHAT soldiers are ACTUALLY fighting for.

                        • I Like Peanut Butter says:

MLD I would have to disagree with you. The men and women fighting and dying in Afghanastan are fighting against those that would impose thier will upon the American people. Their will does not include freedom of any religion, freedom of any type of dissent.

Second reason you are completely WRONG and I believe anyone serving or has served in the Military will agree with me is when you take the Oath of service in the military you promise to protect the “Constitution of the United States”. So anytime a soldier dies, whether it be in war or a training event then that soldier died protection the Constitution and therefore your right of free speech.

i don’t remember what they’re called… but there’s a kind of biker militia that follows them around and blocks them and provides honor guards to military funerals and keeps these nuts away. it would be pretty awesome (in a really bad way) to have a huge group of bikers protecting your funeral. these people (WBC-ers) seem like the type who will hold signs and yell at you all day long but the first time you challenge them in any way will back down. i can’t see the woman in the white hat standing up to some tattooed biker guy in leather when he tells her to shut the eff up.

on an aside, one of my relatives had a funeral attended by over 200 bikers. he’d been a roadie for the doobie brothers and had been a hells angel and was just all out a badass (his girlfriend has his 1 carat diamond prince albert made into a necklace). the bikers showed up at the funeral home decked out in all their leather, bikes polished within an inch of their lives… and then on the procession to the funeral home it was the 2 family limos and then 200+ harleys and then a few cars. the sound was beyond belief. later that year the doobie brothers (at least i think it was them) were playing in town and they went to his mom’s house… picked her up in a limo. brought her to the show and asked if they could put his bike on stage for their entire concert. the lead singer rode the bike on stage and parked it in the middle of the stage, there was a spotlight on it all night long. they dedicated the concert to him and even had his mom come out on stage – she got a standing o.

sometimes my family amazes me with how cool they are. apparently this was the cousin (he’s mom’s second cousin but was about 10 years older than her) who at the passover dinner passed out face first in his plate… at his grandmothers house. grandma explained it as “dean’s just tired” when in reality he was stoned out of his mind.

that was actually my mom’s grandmother. my great grandmother. she was a bit of a riot.

we were going out to a restaurant once and she’d managed to forget her dentures at home… so in her THICK polish accent without any teeth we heard “oh mein gott! i fugots mein teets!” it took a few minutes before we had ANY clue what she was talking about.

It’s precisely because of people like these that we have, and need, an amendment protecting freedom of speech. The nice speech, the pretty speech, the speech that offends nobody doesn’t need protecting – but when you guarantee the right of even the worst among us to speak what passes for their minds, that’s what freedom is all about. We must never allow the right of Phelps and his band of loons to spew their hatred to be denied, offensive though they are, because if they can be silenced, so can you or I.

exactly. You dont have to read it or believe it. Youre just as bad as these ppl trying to push your views- or lack thereof- on others. As much as I hate it, these people have the right in america to protest and carry signs like this. Thats what they fail to understand, is this right they take for granted was a direct result of dead soldiers. Its not like anyone takes them seriously anyway. LOL

          • I Like Peanut Butter says:

Except when they are crude and protest at a Soldier’s funeral. These people are just as bad as those in 60′s and 70′s who spat on returning troops from Vietnam. And, Tyler, the distinction between y’all and all y’all:
“”All y’all” or “all of y’all,” clarifies that the entire group is meant.

                          For example

“Are y’all going to the movies?”

The thrust of this question is whether movies are in the plans of the group. The asker is not focusing on whether the whole group, or just some of them, are going.

“Are all y’all going to the movies?”

Here, the person asking does want to know whether the whole group is going.

                        • @ ILPB: around here it’s pronounced like “yawl”.

few words of advice: i’m a conservative, but because most of the posters aren’t it’s MUCH easier to not start out fighting. when i came in i did my best to blend in for a while before really causing trouble. you came in with both guns blazing and whether you’re liberal/conservative/neo-nazi/etc… it won’t win you any favors around here (i hope i didn’t just invoke the wang).

there are a handful of conservatives around here… myself, froo, eddie, annie (although she hasn’t quite learned how to not come in guns blazing) to name a few. yeah, we’re out numbered but picking fights isn’t the way to go. but you were also being super fundamentalist right (which you’re entitled to be) but it’ll make it even harder to get along with people here, especially if you keep saying things like “obama messiah” and other things like that.

stick to the debate style you’re using today and you’ll make friends! :)

Most of the PK community is friendly, as long as you don’t come in slinging offensive things. I like the people here. :D

                  • I’m mostly conservative as well except for some inconsistencies I have on sex issues. I don’t care what people do in their bedrooms (or who they marry, or, for that matter, if they want to charge for it!) so long as they are all consenting adults.

                    • paws4thot says:

I’m mostly liberLOL, but very hard right on certain issues, usually regarding terrorism (and I include threatening and murdering staff at animal research institute, abortion clinics and the like as terrorism).

I do agree with you about sechs though.

Well within limits. I don’t think beastiality is right. But if two guys want to have at it, so be it, it’s their perogative. We are a free country after all, and how is that two people of the same sex showing their animal magnatism and or love for one another hurting me? It ain’t. That’s the religious right that has highjacked the Repub party. Let’s get back to basics, low taxes, small government spending. To me Government should be like the referees at a sporting event, when it’s over the discussion should be about the game not them.

                      • Consenting adult humans is pretty much what I had in mind, there, ILPB! I like the referee analogy.

                    • Come to think of it….if Favre actually retires, HE could run for Pres in 2012.

I see where you’re coming from, but consider this; he’s got more international respect than any US president since JFK. You don’t have to like the guy to see how that might be an advantage in his job.

                      • I Like Peanut Butter says:

Paws: Reagan and Nixon had HUGE respect outside the USA, more so than even Clinton. I think the problem is, it’s not respect. I don’t think the world respects us any more under Obama, than they did under Bush. If anything looking at the saber rattling and posturing being done by N. Korea. Iran was starting down that path, then well, that’s another story. I don’t think what he’s done to the USA national image “I’m sorry.”, “I’m sorry”, bowing to the Saudi King, giving the Queen of England an IPod, “I’m sorry” has helped. He’s started to alienate England (our greatest ally since WW II), and Israel (our only true ally in the Middle East). That’s my humble opinion, and other’s can share a different view. I also don’t think buddying up to Chavez helps his “I’m not a socialist” stance either. But back to the dumb a$$es in this LOL, let’s try the 1700′s Witch tests on them.

                        • Eric-in-STL says:

Well, the thing is, our nation’s reputation was so badly damaged under Bush that if he didn’t show some humility on our part, everyone would continue hating us. That being said, I don’t want him to turn our country into a doormat for countries like Iran or North Korea. I don’t trust either country in the slightest. But if he can actually achieve some sort of understanding with the bad guys without laying the smackdown and killing more American soldiers, then I’m all for it.

                        • I Like Peanut Butter says:

Eric: I think we could lay the Smacketh down without loosing American lives. They’re called MOABs for a reason. I just think he apologizes too much, and I think the world now sees that Crazy George kept those pesky Iranians and N. Koreans in check, b/c frankly you never knew what he’d do. I’m afraid Obama will make Clinton’s and Bush’s mistake, not act until lives are lost.

They infer this from what they believe are the standards of their god. Every Christian, every believer does that.

    • Tyler says:

Meh. If I was Christian, I would assume that almost everyone who *tries* to live their life well and shows kindness to others would go to heaven, because I can’t see the God described in the New Testament turning his back on his creations and letting them fall to eternal torture… it just doesn’t make sense to me, though.

      • Dhoti says:

Have you ever read the Inferno? Dante asks Virgil the same question early on in the book; his answer is interesting.

Christian or not, read the first four books of the New Testament, then compare what these hatemongers are doing to what Jesus said and did. You’ll find absolutely nothing in common. I think that tells you all you need to know…

      • Em says:

It’s interesting that you’d say that. I was actually having that discussion with my rabbi the other day. One of the reasons I’m proud to call myself a Jew, right there– at least a Jew that belongs to my particular synagogue. As far as we’re concerned, if you’re a decent, God-loving person, no matter what denomination you are, you’re getting into heaven. It’s a warm, fuzzy feeling. =)

        • I Like Peanut Butter says:

Em: That’s your synagogue, but don’t many Hasidic sects believe if you don’t follow the Tora to the letter of the law you’re going to Hell. All religions have those extremists (yes even Atheists), well except Scientology that’s extreme as anything goes, and we have to denounce them as such. Helk (Softer than Hell but strongder than Heck) my old congregation used to believe similar.

I can also assure you that his influence does not extend to future generations of his family. Most of his kids and grandkids have disowned him and his son is even an atheist living in Canada. I know of a few people that sell unit coins on there, just do a search for Challenge Coin. BTW, they call them that because if you are in a club on base, you can walk up to any military member there, slap your coin down and if they don’t have their’s on them, they owe you a beer. However, if they do, you buy them a beer.
                -
As an aside, if you walk into a club on a Navy base and you have your cover (cap) on, if someone rings the bell you buy the bar a round. A very cool tradition and guaranteed to teach you to take your cap off.

That was the whole point of that law. To show Israel they could not follow the law to the letter because they were imperfect and needed a messiah. Those days are gone.

I admire anyone who tries to follow it though because if you’re going to follow it, you have to follow it ALL. You cannot just pick the ones you like and ignore the rest cuz it makes what you say and do irrelevant. Such irrelevancy is demonstrated perfectly by everyone in the WBC.

  29. the_original_shortright says:

the catholic church banned the movie for years (i think it may still be banned). the interesting part…? kevin smith (writer, director and silent bob) is a semi-devout catholic.

    • ladygreensleeves says:

lol, I knew that, Shortright. Its good that he can poke fun at his own religion. People REALLY need to lighten up when it comes to that! The world would be a MUCH better place if everyone just said “All right. Our God/Gods/Goddesses love us all. No one religion is the best. That’s all there is to it.” Thus, centuries of fighting would cease! Arrgghh… people need to seriously take their heads outta their butts.

    • Actually, Kevin Smith has stated that he only goes to church the day before he starts production on a movie and the day before it premiers. He’s not a devout Catholic.

      • Tyler says:

SB, I think that might be the cause of them saying semi-devout. :P

        • I’m not sure if church twice year makes you even semi-devout, Tyler :) That’s like saying you’re devout because you go to church on Christmas and Easter.

          • Tyler says:

Well hey, if he started mass-producing terrible movies/mini-films, would he become devout? :P

          • Eric-in-STL says:

That makes you a devout Presbyterian. :-X

          • the_original_shortright says:

back when he made dogma he was going a bit more frequently than that. i have some weird edition and it’s got an interview with him in the specials and he talks about how he was going to church regularly before he started making the movie and by the time he was done filming he’d basically stopped going.

            • paws4thot says:

I sort of get that and sort of don’t. I mean, Dogma isn’t specifically anti Roman Catholic is it? It’s anti organised religion, but I think pro-Christian. (Oh yes and a great film too)

              • the_original_shortright says:

i think it depends on what opinion you’re bringing with you TO the film. if you’re a christian you may see it as a pro-god movie considering at the end everything is put right by god, etc etc. but if you’re not a christian (atheist, agnostic, muslim, etc) i think you’ll see it as anti-god and anti-religion. because all this doom and destruction came because of the angels… who are supposed to be good creations who work for god, etc.

i’m not sure if that really makes sense. i’m in a bit of a ramble-y mood today.

i think kevin smith came to the film as a christian hoping that in the end it would be a pro-christianity movie but as he was getting deeper into the story he started to see some of the truth in what he’d written as satire. unless he was SUPER devout, i could see that shaking his beliefs a bit.

                • paws4thot says:

It might make sense, but then I’m a lapsed Scots Presbyterian Christian with Humanist tendancies (which makes no sense even to me; it just is).

You can’t blame God for the actions of the “angels”, because they were fallen (or was it just cast out?) after all. Then it was all about church structures, not Christianity itself, that created the loophole they were planning to use to get back in.

                  • the_original_shortright says:

the angels were cast out. i haven’t seen the movie in a few years but i think it was because matt damon’s angel wanted to kill a ton of people. he’d gotten hammered with ben affleck’s angel and they decided that everyone was sinning and the best way to deal with it was to just kill everyone. as MD’s angel was supposed to be the hand of god that dealt out punishment, god got mad and kicked them both out. also sending down the edict that they coudln’t drink anymore… which was why the metatron spit out his shot of tequila when he was at the mexican restaurant with the last scion.

i think smith wrote the movie to be a satire in regards to what can happen when you let the bishops and everyone “speak for god”. because george carlin’s bishop was the one who decided that anyone walking through the church would be forgiven, thus causing the problem. while it’s more about the structure of the church having problems, it highlighted some of the issues in the church.

what’s to stop a bishop from saying that “playing with altar boys” is part of what god wants them to do? (i know this is an extreme example)… but when you’re giving “mortals” the power to speak on behalf of an “immortal” or “god” then you’re going to have problems.

that was a big part of the reason that the catholic church hated the movie. let alone the whole story line about jesus having siblings and wanting to hook up with mary magdelene… and i’m guessing that the black apostles didn’t sit too well with some of the stodgy old farts in the vatican.

  31. Remolay says:

I love these people, they are so easy to annoy. this is how I imagine a conversation would sound like:

see those signs ask “Has god ever said that?”

    “No”

    “Then how do you know?”

    “Um… **** you.”

“Aren’t you the same people who think that swearing makes you go to hell?”

    “crap”

    • Tyler says:

I’ll bet you they’d claim they’re still going to heaven because they’re special and god only loves them not the rest of the world.

  32. ... says:

on behalf of all christians i apologize for idoits like this.

  33. slaggingham says:

In my religion, the First Church of STFU, it gets exponentially harder to get into Heaven every time you tell anyone else that they cannot get into Heaven.

On the other hand, the tithe is only 2%.

  34. alleee says:

I think “God” said a little bit worse things than that.

I mean, if you read the bible…particularly Deuteronomy.

As the Moabites. They’ll tell you.

  35. Charlie Foxtrot says:

Hey, they are right. Maybe they should move… I hear the Afghanistan-Pakistan border has room. Oh, they would actually have to defend themselves rather than have the people who gave their lives so they could protest and call them nasty names do it for them.

    • eddiepscetti says:

I can remember a time when baby killer was the invective of choice for those in the military.. oh, and getting spat on too. I would just soon kick each and every one of their asses, up close and personal, for not even realizing why they have the right to be assh*les.

      • Charlie Foxtrot says:

Thats what they live for — many of them are lawyers and hope to drag people into court. Just remember, somebody gives them money to keep up with their crap, kinda like the whacko muslims, there are always a few that get off on telling everyone else what to do.

  36. Matt says:

I would just like to state that my best friend, Corporal Josh Reeves, was killed in Iraq 2 years ago this coming September, and these yahoos were going to come and protest at his funeral. An honor guard from the Patriot Guard Motorcycle Group came to make sure that these people didn’t interrupt the grieving of his friends, but mostly of his wife and family. (I would also like to state that his wife had just given birth to their son the day before he died.) I hope that you will remember that even if you don’t support the war, support the troops. It’s their 9-5, except that they really do put their lives on the line every day.

    • eddiepscetti says:

I would agree with everything you said, except for one very minor point. Someone in the military isn’t there 9-5, it’s 24/7/365.. Other than that, I’m truly sorry to hear about your friend. I lost many over 35 years ago and wish they were still here.

    • Charlie Foxtrot says:

Sorry for your loss. The people in this photo are from Topeka, Kansas and have been at it since at least 1991. They are completely out of touch with reality and have no morals.

    • ladygreensleeves says:

Amen to that. My dad is a soldier, and every day, I sit back and think anew at how wonderful this country is, and how immensely proud I am of the men and women that serve. I am terribly sorry for your loss and the loss of your friend’s family. His bravery will never be forgotten, and I am eternally grateful for the sacrifice he made for his country.

  37. power2go3 says:

  39. Tyler says:

Not feeding the trolls… not feeding the trolls…
The comments are a jumping off point, if you’re not interested in learning about other peoples’ views and talking about this stuff, then why in the hell would you be on the boards…

    • eddiepscetti says:

Because segaphile is a troll.. case in point:

Religious arguments on pundit kitchen. Seriously? You people need to get a life.

What sort of life does segaphile have if they have the time to post that?

  40. AC says:

  41. Vicky says:

I can’t believe the stupidity of people. God doesn’t hate anyone, hence the reason for Jesus, if you wanna follow the penal substitution atonement theory! God doesn’t like war but he is with those who are fighting.
Grrr, these people make me sooooo angry! They didn’t know the soliders and their faith or relationship with God before they died… ARGGGGGGGGGGHHH…

  42. grasie says:

I HATE THE PERSON WHO PUT UP THIS FLIPPING PICTURE IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Tyler says:

You hate the person who gave us the opportunity to mock these idiots? :/

    • eddiepscetti says:

Are you a member of WBC? That has to be the only explanation as to why you would hate the person that created this caption.

      • Tyler says:

Eddie, I think they may be dumb enough to believe that the person who put this picture on the site was actually attempting to support WBC…
        Intelligence and reasoning fail.

  43. Lorosauce says:

Anyone notice the woman on the right, with the American flag stuffed in her pants waistband?
Yeah. It’s touching the ground and therefore sullying and disrespecting the flag.
They shouldn’t be allowed in America anymore… let them protest in other less tolerant places… Let’s get herrrrrr!

  44. unejeunefille says:

Possibly the greatest punditkitchen post I’ve ever seen…

  45. Bekachan says:

ouch. If I were God, I’d be crying at that. =.= that sounds pretty stupid, even for those who say “God hates America”

    • Tyler says:

If I were God, I’d have slapped these idiots into a coma and itched their foot while they were unable to move.
Then I’d whisper into their ear “Hey, remember me? Yeah, you can’t speak for me. Good luck with that whole sick thing. It’s not like you brought it upon yourself or anything…”

  46. Xias135 says:

What we should do is drop these idiots straight into the middle of Texas, naked, and watch them hanged for they’re sinful ways, After a stout beating of course.

  47. Shousetaz says:

you guys are mad at that? ha you’re lucky the media doesn’t show all the signs they make! it gets worse

  48. KAHCEE says:

im going to gather my family including my 5 year olds and while smiling: wave signs that say “god hates (insert country your pissed off at here)”

  49. Hotaru says:

makes you wish you could do a drive-by eh? i would LOVE to see a military humvee drive by with a .50 cal and just waste ‘em, would serve them right

  50. Atheist says:

I am so sick of these people…

    • JAWS says:

Hmmph. You’re SO right…. these people hate the US, so let’s let them leave. Deport ‘em. Send ‘em to Iran and see how they like it.

  51. Alex says:

    This pisses me off
thts the exact opposite of wat he thinks
it’s tht ppl rlly do this!!!>:(

  52. Deniandu says:

Let’s start with replacing all the “is” regarding anything to do with bible or religion with “i think/believe”.
I don’t respect anyone who thinks he should spread his/here faith in this way, i don’t even understand why they are so driven to point out all the so called wrongs in others.
If truly you think you are better then the rest and the rest is supossed to die and burn in hell, why bother telling them , isn’t that just a waste of time better spend on praying and stuff? or is it that they seek recognition from others caus the faith isn’t doing it for them :)
Anyways, i personally think there is no such thing as a god, that s my opinion.
