I’ve been flying UA regularly for the last 10 years with at least three international flights a year and the only time I was delayed was because of a mechanical malfunction. We pulled back into the gate and waited for another plane to be brought in.

Yes, but there’s no special *seating*. So ubr’s claim that he “sat in business class” is incorrect.

Actually, SW does have business class. It’s not a special seat, but you get on the plane before anyone else and get free drinks and what-not, like no cancellation fee, etc.

You seem to be confusing pedigree with age. Allow me to disabuse you of that misconception.

For example, Haskell, which Danbala mentioned, has pedigree. Lisp *is* pedigree. Ada, Cobol, Fortran, and your embedded languages are merely old. (As for the rest of your list: Pascal is a toy; Basic is a toy for special children; and VB et al is an unpolished turd.)

If Ada is in fact your language of choice, I’m guessing your recent retirement has left you with a lot of time on your hands. I recommend reviewing your conceptual roots.

I think != is seen as more standard for noting inequality, simply for C-related languages being more common today (for a given value of common).

(And btw, functional languages like Haskell and iirc SML also use the /= notation.)

No it isn’t: the standard notation is /=, because it contains both the elements of the mathematical ≠ sign. Just for the record, this applies to Ada, BASIC, COBOL, FORTRAN, PASCAL, VB(A), and at least 5 varieties of Job Control Languages. Clue in the very Adaesque way I wrote the error message.

My family and I just flew USAirways, and we kept repeating “wish we were on Southwest”. Yep, it’s cattle. Yep, it’s tight. But no tighter than any other coach class, they don’t charge for the first bag, and they’re usually close to on time. AA always acts like they’re doing you a favor to let you on their planes. USAir and Delta don’t seem to mind if you’re wretchedly late. To each his own, of course, but no US airline is much better than Southwest.

True, but I’m pretty sure 99% of the people can figure it out on their own. It wasn’t so much Foamer saying, “That’s the US Airways plane that went into the Hudson River”, it was the “after multiple birdstrikes” that I was referring to. You would have be living in a cave not to know why the US Airways plane went down.

Years ago when I was living in California, we had a regional called PSA. I think they are the one’s that Southwest modelled their company on as they used to have the same fares as PSA.

For what it’s worth, PSA sucked as well. But as long as you were flying from L.A. to either San Diego or San Francisco it wasn’t that bad.
