  1. MLD says:

    Bet they’re both republican.

    • Danbala says:

      I bet they’re both Australian.

      • MLD says:

Hmm… what’s the party there that aligns most closely then?

          • David says:

Both of the people in the photo were in the Liberal Party.

            Liberal Party = Right wing

            Yes, the irony. XD

            • MLD says:

So equivalent in ideology to the US Republicans? Hahaha I love it.

              • Odysseus says:

Ironically the guy “giving” the blow job spent more time rogering the guy getting it out of the top job! Maybe this is how he kept him from it for so long… misdirection!

            • meglet says:

means that we spend a lot of time talking about ‘small L liberals’ when we mean the left. bit of a pain in the arse.
John Howard – the white baldy in this photo our previous Prime Minister – had the biggest mancrush on bush and was described by him as a ‘man of steel’
              roflcopter. *sigh* politics

        • Lol says:

          Australian Nazi Party?

The Liberals are not fascist enough… politics in Australia just isn’t as extreme as it is in the USA.

          • Personally, I find it funny that allegedly open-minded liberals fling accusations homosexuality around as a means to insult those not sharing their political views.

            • HelOnWheels says:

There aren’t any accusations of homosexuality. Zero. There are accusations of “you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours”, except not “scratching” and not of “backs”. It’s accusations of quid pro quo, reciprocation. And how do you know that this was posted by “liberals”? Did you take a poll?

            • katdemon♥fire says:

Well, it’s probably more that as of late, republicans are the ones with a bigger tendency to cheat on their wives.

              • Eric-in-STL says:

I really don’t think cheating is really a partisan quality. Chances are it’s pretty even on both sides. The Republicans just happen to be the ones getting caught lately, that’s all.

                • Maxwell Silverhammer says:

And all Sanford had to do was wait to admit his affair two days later than he did and MJ’s death could have tsunami’d over it and no one would have cared…

                  • Jane St.Clair says:

Now I imagine Sanford shaking his fist at the sky yelling, “DAMN YOU, KING OF POP!!! DAMN YOU TO HELL!!!”

            • MLD says:

Honestly, I personally don’t give a crap who sleeps with whom. But I find it amusing that Republicans tout all these family values and an anti-homosexuality agenda (not all, but the majority, it seems) and then turn around and cheat, have homosexual sex, etc.

My post (I’m the OP in this thread) wasn’t meant as an insult to those not sharing my beliefs, but to those acting in such a hypocritical manner. It wasn’t (before anyone says anything) specific to the men in the picture, but rather to the Larry Craigs (et al) of the country.

              (PS: I’m not a liberal)

              • Semperfidd says:

P.S. Yes you are a liberal. I find it amusing that people like yourself are all about freedom of expression and oppinions unless it is conservative or christian. By adding PS: I’m not a liberal infers that you think a person would jump to that conclusion due to the views you state in your comments which are…liberal lol

          • bdunning1975 says:

            Illinois Nazis.

          • meglet says:

it’s because we’re halfway like the US in attitudes and still using the British Westminster system. aussie politics is a freaking clunky beast

      • eddiepscetti says:

        Yes, you would be correct..

    • Semperfidd says:

Bet they’re both relatives of MLD

    • Kris says:

The man leaning back is Peter Costello, former Treasurer of Australia. The man bending is John Howard – former PM of Australia. Costello wa pissed off with Howard because of a verbal promise that Costello would get to be PM when Howard retired. Howard reneged. The possibility of a sexual relationship is extremelu unlikely.

  2. Xax says:

Actually, they’re both Australian. As am I. the guy ‘down below’ was our previous Prime Minister – John Winston Howard – the guy up top is Peter Costello…our previous Treasurer, both of the Liberal Party. I’m glad to say I voted for the better guy in 2007 – Kevin Rudd – of the Labor Party, and we won, too. (and the best part is that the current PM, JWH, lost his seat in Parliament to a Labor candidate) this a particularly well placed image, because, if you know your Australian politics, you would know that JWH promised to hand over to PC after 2 terms, and ran 3 terms and never did. Peter Costello, on the other hand, never made a sound, but sat there (in the House) sulking the whole time. In July 2009, 1.5 years after JWH lost the election, the at-the-time leader of the Opposition, Malcolm Turnbull concocted an affair in which he accused the Labor Party (now in Govt) of fabricating evidence. it then turned out that the fabricated evidence had come from Turnbull’s office, and sadly, Peter Costello had resigned 3 days before. poor Peter. Had he waited, the Leadership of the Liberal Party would now be his. thus endeth the lesson

    • Xax says:

and the Party that resembles the Republicans most in Australia are the Liberals – addendum

      • Stex says:

Uhh, no. We have no party that resembles the Republicans in Oz. Nothing of any consequence anyway.

        • Dina says:

          Lol, keep dreaming.

          • Stex says:

Seriously! Some members of the Liberals perhaps, but enough of them are reasonably centre in their politics (pro public health, public education and so on), and if you look at the policies of the Nationals in totality, they’re actually quite left wing (protectionism, subsudies for farmers, single-desk markets etc). Try odd-ball lots like One Nation, CEC, Family First etc.

            • Serpentine says:

The Liberals (big L! BIG L!) are probably /best/ compared with the Republicans, but it’s just not a very good comparison. The Liberals are Neo-Liberal (socially conservative, economically liberal (boo!)), while the Republicans are Neo-Conservative (something along the lines of “lets do what’s best for us, screw the rest of the world!” No, really. ‘least, that’s my understanding from what I picked up from someone else’s class…).

            • Chrisfs says:

Public Health ? Why that’s socialism! Don’t you know that any country with a public health systems gets swallowed into a big void never to be heard from again? Rush Limbaugh said it, so it must be true.

              • Brian says:

Um us Australians don’t know that but that could have something to do with having a functioning public school system that amongst other things doesn’t teach creationism.

    • And the people said “AMEN!!”

    • Stex says:

      Facts Fail!

    • notanenigneer says:

oh jeez.. I actually hoped that these guys would be german politicians… coz I am a german citizen and the german Secretary of the interior, Dr. Wolfgang Schäuble is such a conservative guy (btw his bald head would fit to the photo) and he had some strange ideas (fingerprints saved on a chip on the passport; spying computers via the internet; …. so I’d really call him a (censored!!) according to the photo….

    • meglet says:

saying KRudd is the better guy is only sorta true, and I tried to tell people this before the bloody election. Don’t expect the world to start turning a different direction because the opposition gets in – they’re politicians! it’s a two party system! they’re all the bloody same. there is nothing revolutionary about KRudd, he’s another conservative old white guy with a penchant for spin. he may be slightly better but don’t kid yourselves that he’s anything but a politician…
those who desire power are the least fit to hold it. we also get the leaders we deserve.

  3. Fara says:

This photo will never get old.

  4. Rafiq of the many says:

I thought the hokey-pokey was what it was all about?

  5. madcow says:

    Rule 43 at it’s finest.

  6. mothergoose says:

    Don’t ask…don’t tell.

  7. ay dios mio says:

except getting one while having a rough day at the office

  8. Eric-in-STL says:

We’ve seen this picture before, and they still can’t put their names on it?

  9. ChiChi says:

    Never gets old.

  10. AustFAILian says:

Jesus. They still don’t know who thry are? I shall tell you.

The bald guy is John Howard, ex-leader of the Liberal Party and ex-Prime Minister of Australia. The other guy is Peter Costello, the Treasurer (?former treasurer?) of the Liberal Party. Actually, this reminds me of a comic I saw after the election…

  11. fp_ says:

John Howard (Back of Head/Former PM) and Peter Costello (Smiling guy/Former Treasurer)

Both since have been voted out of power.

    • eddiepscetti says:

Howard was voted out, Costello resigned..

      • fp_ says:

Fine, their party was voted out of power.

        • eddiepscetti says:

For the time being.. wait until people figure out that the Rudd government is nothing more than a bunch of hypocrits.

          • Maxwell Silverhammer says:

Its good to know Australia has the same type of politicians as here in the US… just, makes you miss the States eh Eddie?

          • John Rudd says:

Amen to that. Kevin Rudd is an utter moron and should quit now.

            • crystal says:

Not only an utter moron, but a smug, nerdy, Mandarin-speaking show-off, Koala-look-a-like with glasses.

Not that I have anything against nerds (most probably being classified as one myself), but KRudd is literally reeking of the stench of someone who is still excited that the ‘cool kids’ like Rove are speaking to him. Oh and did you see his awful salute thingy to George Bush? I was embarrassed to be Australian when I saw that, let me tell you

The funny thing is, the whole of Australia was totally taken in by his ‘great public image’, and didn’t see what a nasty piece of work he is. Poor KRudd without his special dinners on flights and hairdryers in Iraq.

Arrghhh and the whole stripper thing really annoys me too! The Liberal Party stood for the rights of women (Violence Against Women: Australia Says No campaign and other stuff like that), yet we have a PM who thinks it is the ‘cool’ thing to do to visit strip clubs. Apparently it makes him a “troo blooo Aussie bloke.” Puh-lease. All it does is shows me that he doesn’t respect women and instead objectifies them. What a great role model.

              • Brian says:

Poor Crystal did Johnny get his ass handed to him. Sucks to be in opposition, better get used to it.
By the way how’s Rudd going? So far he’s knocked off Howard, Brendan Nelson, Costello has given up and have you seen Turnbull’s popularity? The Coalition is a joke and will be spending many years in opposition so get used to it.

          • Serpentine says:

You mean as opposed to, say, the Liberals?
Say, where are those state tax cuts that were meant to come in with the GST? And /how/ many refugee children were thrown overboard by their parents?

            • eddiepscetti says:

And in further developments, I’m not sure what government dickhead came up with this idea, but they now want to tax drivers on a pay-as-you- drive basis. As if I’m not already being taxed exhorbitantly at the pump, now they want to tax me for using the fuel?!?!
              -
As for your comment, since the GST was put in place before I moved here, I can’t really comment on that. And how many refugees were tossed overboard? You like Kevin Rudd, I say good on ya.. I can’t say he’s my favourite, but he’s a far sight better than Wayne Swan. That guy gives me the creeps.

              • Serpentine says:

To answer my own questions: One of the promised conditions of the introduction of the GST was that the states would remove a number of their taxes. That never happened.
0 refugee children were tossed overboard by their parents. Nil. Nada. Zilch. Howard & co. claimed that a number of children were in an attempt to blackmail Australia into letting them in or somesuch. There is evidence that he knew this was false when he used the claim for his election, which means he lied to all of Australia. Even if he was telling the truth when he said he genuinely believed it, /he wasn’t doing his job/ if he spouted off self-beneficial stories without actually checking their veracity.
Kevin Rudd MAY be a hypocrite (haven’t seen any of that yet, myself), but so is pretty much every politician, and at least he hasn’t lied to our faces (yet). He’s not perfect, but he’s bounds and bounds ahead of the nearest opposition competition.

                • eddiepscetti says:

Ok, like I indicated, the GST was before my time here, but I do understand what you mean. I know there was quite an uproar over the GST when it was introduced, but wasn’t there a tax on goods purchased before the GST?
                  -
Immigration issues are always a touchy issue. Look at the U.S.
                  -
Kevin Rudd is in fact just as much a hypocrite as the opposition. Look at his whole emission trading scheme. For a man who so worried about global warming he certainly contributes quite heavily to the carbon footprint by all the flying he does.

                  • Stex says:

Before GST there was Wholesale Sales Tax, which was all over the shop. Different amounts for different items (up to 31%), could not be deducted as an expense for exports, making exports non-competitive. Idea was to simplify the whole mess, and spread the tax. Came close to the ideal, with fresh food and books exempt. All money was meant to go to states, to give guaranteed revenue stream, in return for which complex and regressive state taxes were to be scrapped, which never happened. They are now going back to the fed government, and promising to scrap state taxes if given more money. The more things change…..

                  • Serpentine says:

I wasn’t even talking about the immigration issue (“boat people” indeed >=P). He lied (or, at best, failed to check his “facts”) to us, in an effort to demonize a vulnerable group of people.
If that’s Rudds worst hypocrisy, well, I don’t think he’s doing too badly…

                  • Brian says:

I really wish conservative americans would stay in their own country. Your type really aren’t welcome in Aus regardless of what some retards might have told you. Please f#@koff home.

  12. Angela says:

Yes, Peter Costello and John Howard, and they’re not nearly as close together as the long lens makes it look.

  13. Jake says:

The people are John Howard and Peter Costello, John Howard was the former Prime Minister of Australia and Peter Costello was the former Treasurer

  14. BCT says:

I only clicked on the comments link to see a bunch of ignorant, insular retards appear confused.

    Was not disappointed.

  15. jedi says:

AUSTRALIANS former PM john howard giving it, former treasurer peter costello taking it.

  16. Mantis Prawn says:

This pic was taken by a photographer in the Press Gallery during the media shitestorm over Howard reneging on the supposed succession plan. The public perception was that Howard owed Costello a big apology. I’m kind of amazed that the photo made it to the intertubez, on the basis that the chief of staff at the publication where the photographer was employed said he’d get permanently banned from the Press Gallery if it got out.

    • zhuk says:

It was from The Age, wasn’t it?

Still love seeing this photo, makes me smile every time. I like to think it’s what Howard had to do to stop Costello getting out the knives re their leadership wrangle LOL

      • paws4thot says:

Whatever; it’s a classic single shot “3rd Effect” image. The only way to improve it would be to start with a profile shot of them both sitting back, and Fotochop out some of the distance between them!

  17. Tommy says:

it’s John Howard – the previous Aussie Prime minister and Peter Costello the Former Treasurer

  18. Slpencer says:

    I bet they’re both A-holes

  19. Silvamord says:

Slpencer, yes, yes they are both a-holes.

  20. splindscu says:

You don’t know who that is? It’s Peter Costello, former Treasurer, and John Howard, former Prime Minister of Australia.

  21. bitter troll says:

pic much more loled if you make slurping sounds as he watch it

  22. Heather Mac says:

I guessed they were Australian, went to the comments…was amused to find out I was right. :P

(This is what happens when you learn about Aussie politics from an epic snarker.)

  23. angie says:

i bet the english government could do this, its what we pay taxes for lol

  24. talia says:

the bald guy is John Howard former australian prime minsiter and the other guy, oh god i cant remember his name! i think he just quit though.

  25. talia says:

ahh hes Peter Costello!! had to wikipedia it!

  26. Jamie Hall says:

There is very little about Australian politics that is funny, unless you’re watching comedians lampooning politicians. This one is wrong because the bloke with the chrome dome is the former Prime minister John Howard. The bloke with the goofy expression on his face is the former Federal Treasurer Peter Costello. This is made funnier because Howard was supposed to retire from the top job if they won the last election (they didn’t by a gaping margin) Costello was like a whining kid in a way, going “But it’s my turn!”

Howard shared George W’s right wing views on a lot of things, and like the Republicans, The Australian Liberal Party has developed a reputation of being friends of the rich and generally not nice to the working class. Unfortunately his replacement is a Mandarin speaking nerd whom will screw up the country if left unchecked. Obama will likely be a help to America, given how messed up it became under Bush. The thing that annoys Australians most about Prime Minister Rudd at the moment is that we have boatloads of refugees coming in, without papers or anything, and it seems too many of them are getting in. A direct result of his loosening of the refugee policy. I’m not against immigration, but I do have a problem with people whom think they can jump the queue.

Short history lesson: For the past 25 years, there has been a continuous civil war in Sri Lanka, between the government and a group called the Tamil Tigers. Sri lankans in general have been honest migrants to Australia. The civil war in Sri Lanka is now over, and boatloads of people the Sri Lankan community suspect are Tamil Tigers pay a lot of money to try to get in on a leaky boat, so we will “take pity” on them. They go through many countries to get here, but Australia is supposed to be their final destination. If you want further perspective, google “Oceanic Viking”

Remarkable things here. I am very happy to look your post. Thanks so much and I’m looking ahead to contact you. Will you kindly drop me a e-mail?
