Speak for yourself, Malcolm… some of us ‘troops’ would actually choose brains over boobs and are about as fonda Palin as we are of Fonda.

And my USMC / Army family has made several trips to the Wounded Warrior Barracks and helped out with fundraisers on numerous occasions, as well.

The picture is funny (mildly, I’ll admit) and there is no ‘shame’ in viewing it.

I’m against big spending myself, and I don’t agree with the Bush bank bailouts or a large portion of what TARP is being spent on, but if it works, then it works.

As someone who has family members and friends serving in each branch of the military, two currently in Iraq and one currently in Afghanistan, I feel confident in saying that this sad little non-LOL is pretty far from representing the majority of our troops.

The same was true in the Great Depression. Movie houses and industries like music flourished. Isn’t it odd? Unemployment is high, people claim not to have enough money, and yet terrible movies are still raking in millions of dollars at the box office…it’s sad, really, where our priorities seem to lie.

granted, the minimum for full time classification for most purposes is 12 hrs/semester but most students i went to college with a few years ago were pulling an average of 15 hr/semester with 18 not being that unusual. keep in mind that she graduated in 1987 and as far as i know was still single, so all she had was school and possibly work, no dependents pulling on her time. a 5 yr ba wouldn’t have been totally unreasonable, but 6?

The 4 year degree is a myth now days. It CAN be done but not without overloading yourself quite a bit. 12 hrs. a semester won’t cut it anymore. 5 years if you go that traditional 12 hrs/semester route, most people take a little more time then that, if they work too. I don’t know what Palin’s situation was, I’m just saying.

As for the “violence” I did a quick wiki search and did not find anything of note that would make someone believe that he is violent so I assume Rahm must have told you that so again I appologize.

As for Palin, I agree with what you said however I would add that there is a good chance that she is doing the speaches to make money. Oh, and I don’t think she is a loon.

values like letting her daughter’s bf spend the night or the abstinence only sex ed (that worked well didn’t it?) or how she handled her labor knowing she was carrying a high risk baby who could need lots of specialized neonatal care? or her support for aerial hunting that runs $500 an hour, but is supposed to be for the subsistance hunters? or quitting half way through her elected term (that she chose to run for)?
so what are we supposed to respect here? her stance on abortion — that should be a personal decision. do i respect her for not aborting trig? sure, but i don’t respect her wanting to legislate that same choice for everyone else.
is her religious choice worthy of respect? again, it’s a personal choice and as long as she doesn’t try to legislate that everyone else follow her choice, i don’t care.
her education level? that’s to be respected, but it’s also mockable because most people finish their 4 year degree in 4 years, not 6. and it’s also worthy of mocking because it’s a degree in communication and at times she comes across as a babbling idiot – the irony is too much to pass up. not to mention, it’s kind of a fluff degree compared to the mba, law, or poli-sci degrees that most politicians have.

it still hurts to read it, and i’m glad it wasn’t palin. although that does remove something that we all can make fun of her for. no adult should be allowed to be on their own in public who can babble like that – they need caretakers/orderlies/straight jackets and special name tags with the name of their institution and doctor on the back side.
but teens should be given leeway for vapidness at times, but you’d think she would have practiced giving smart sounding answers to stupid questions….or maybe she did practice and got derailed – a kid i’m willing to cut slack.
(drat it all, still wish it was palin, it’s more fun that way, but i’m just evil like that;) )

exactly. she had a contract with the people who elected her to fulfill her term and do the job she asked to do, but she quit when she didn’t get a dangled better offer. did she honestly believe that she’d be a shoe-in to the veep office and that she didn’t have to take her chances at the ballot box? if mccain’s handlers told her they were a shoe-in and she believed it, it only confirms her lack of judgment. and belies her previous experience as miss wasilla since she wasn’t chosen as miss alaska. did she ball and bat and go home then too?
