PATRIOTISM
The sudden realization that these men couldn’t have cared less about there being statues of them.
Who are these statues of? Tell us in the Comments

I would imagine they would be sickened by the idea of statues of themselves.
Don’t know. Most of these men had pretty big egos. And remember they were men after all. I do respect and admire their risks they took to free and start our country, however I wouldn’t be surprised if they wouldn’t be dissappointed if history didn’t remember them. George Washington on the other hand had little to no ego, and was one of the most reluctant Presidents out there, but he did it out of Patriotism. He’d def be humbled how much this country worships him, IMHO.
Thats the dollar the US is worshipping. Not Washington. He just happens to be on it.
I think naming the nation’s capital and a state (and a boatload of other things) after him is a strong indication of profuse adulation.
Yeah, but that was then. This is now. Now he is the cash symbol.
Nobody cares about a one dollar bill. Franklin is the cash symbol. Washington is remembered for his deeds more then any other founding father.
No, it’s because of poor education.
No its not. I have already clarified that. Because when it comes to education, we aren’t as socialized as we pretend. Most of the funding comes from property tax. Wealthy people have wealthy areas with wealthy schools. The poor get the poor. Go ask the kids at the good schools, you will run into the same problem. Its not the schools.
Although the schools are another issue altogether.
The schools are staffed by the same teachers union, so you would expect the same results, just sometimes shinier.
You would think. But the really good teachers teach in private schools, and the teachers who can’t afford to go to college get those service cancelable loans and then are forced to work in “need” areas to eleviate debt, and in order to get a job you have to apply, and if you are trying to work in richy-ville you will turn down the position in the ghetto. So… the results aren’t the same at all.
It’s more a case of parents who take the same attitude as you vis a vis people who shuffle their kids off to school and only get “involved” in their school when it’s about sports.
The same attitude as me? I guess I am not understanding you. I don’t have kids, hate sports, and I am constantly involved in something or another. Can you rephrase it somehow? I would love to get you so I had something better to say in responce.
Correct me if I’m wrong but, don’t teachers HAVE to have a college education to be employed as a teacher?
I think so. I am pretty certain you do now. It wasn’t always like that.
Why would the really good teachers teach in private schools? Surely private industry wouldn’t be better than a government run one. Last I checked, my daughter aspires to be a teacher, you don’t get much of a choice where the school system puts you when you start out as a teacher. As you gain tenure more options become available as to choice of location. Im of the oppinion that the parents make the most impact on how well the school does by being involved in making sure their kids do well in school (not that it should be that hard to pass school as they have dumbed it down so much).
This may be an earth shattering moment, But I am with you on this one Semper. Even -I- believe that parenting has the number 1 most important impact. Now if we could only get parents out of wage slavery and back in the homes…
Damn VNV…I am going to print and post that on my wall…I have to agree with you on the parent being at home as well. My mom was a stay at home mom. I believe that increases in taxes and peoples attitude about wanting more things without saving up for them changed that and caused the two parent working situation we have now.
@ Care Troll- In public schools, as far as I can tell teachers have to have degrees in education and be at least state certified. In private schools it’s a little different. Not all of them require edu degrees or even a degree in the subject area being taught, much less certification. Some do, but a lot of them don’t.
@ Semperfidd- Many teachers I know tend to prefer certain private schools for two reasons. 1. high salaries and 2. better funding, especially in the science and math depts. Again though, that depends on the private school as to whether either of those two are the case.
As my husband’s a teacher, I can clarify that even in the lowest of the low public schools in California, at least, every teacher has to have a BA or higher and credentials. The problem, for the most part, is not the teacher’s education, it’s the restrictions the schools put on the teachers. The teachers are expected to be overglorified babysitters and it’s the teacher’s fault if a kid’s not doing his homework and is flunking. I’m actually surprised that people still want to be public school teachers. It’s a wretched thankless job where the parents want to leave all their responsibilities with the teacher. >.< And it's too bad that parents can't decide where to put their kids either… because there are bad schools out there and if you can't afford to live in the area with the good school, your kids are screwed.
Coming in waaaaay late here, but I have to agree with both VNV & Semperfidd. Clearly the best situation for any child is one where a parent can be home. I actually tried that for a little while. Good times. Unfortunately, that can happen so rarely these days as most families have to have two parents working. I would never fault parents for working. Clearly we have to, but it’d be nice if we could be parents more.
I respectfully disagree. To test this I’m going to ask my neighbor’s 4th grade kids who they are and see what they know. I’ll get back to you guys on this tomorrow.
Awesome. Make sure not to ask too many leading questions. In fact. Start by just showing them a good picture, and asking who they are. And then go from there.
I’ve got $5 that says the answer includes the words “cherry tree.”
I am not betting against that one!
LOL….and wooden teeth!
I just asked my son, and he said Washington was the first president, and Jefferson was the third president. But I woke him up to ask him that, so he was too out of it to answer any other questions. LOL He’s in 3rd grade.
The fact that you clarified your position doesn’t make it true.
Oh but I think it does. And consider this statement clarified.
Like butter?
mmmm butter…-drools-
You are such a negative force VNV. You must be a joy to be around on a daily basis.
Have you ever said anything positive about USA, capitalism, “the rich” or anything on these boards. Helk I was talking about contributions of Washington and you have to turn it into anti-capitalism. DUDE you are just as bad as those that always bring Hitler, GO TROOPS, Obama Sucks, Bush is dumb, into every arguement. Just lay off for a while, relax, and try and not pick fights.
Nice to see you in your usual positive mood
)
Some of these men would have been giddy as school girls nominated for prom queen to know they were getting statues, being put in history books, having streets, towns, states, capitals, etc named after them. They had huge egos, and were more vain about themselves then Michael Jackson about his looks.
They were also pretty selfish. They were annoyed with being taxed and being told what to do. The end result was positive, their motives were not as grand as grade-school would like you to believe. Then again – grade-school said “i before e except after c”.
BLASPHEMY!!!!
“No, Brian. It’s i before e except after c and when sounding like a as in neighbor and weigh, and on weekends and holidays and all throughout May, and you’ll always be wrong no matter what you say!!”
“They were annoyed with being taxed and being told what to do.”
I would be annoyed with that too. And before you chime in VHV, I understand that yes I am being taxed (the level of which I am being taxed does annoy me) and I understand that there has to be some laws that do in fact tell us what to do (speeding laws as an example). The objection is to the amount of each.
Geez. I am being invoked just to be told not to chime in? What the hell kind of fun is that?
How about this. Pretend that money doesn’t exist. Then you aren’t taxed. Pretend you work for free, and in return, your company provides you with the means by which you live for free. And the government gives you all they provide for free. Now you are right back where you started, except now you don’t have to be annoyed in your taxes.
In fact, even better, since you get to volunteer to do something worthwhile every day! You win!
Given the extent to which I tend to run out of money between checks and subsist on cokes and snacks provided by my employer in the breakroom, I’m not sure I have to pretend.
Hehe. Me neither….. *cries*
I was just thinking the same thing when I read that. Also, that I’d be gettin “paid” mostly in Dr. Pepper and cigarettes.
ZOMG your employer has cokes and snacks??!! HIRE ME!!!1!!!
You get snacks and cokes provided by your employer?????
*grumbles about unfair labor practices and considers a letter to Congress about mandating that all employers provide snacks*
Not true, John Adams is quoted as saying “There is no prize for being number 2, there will never be any statues, monuments, or squares by my name.” Or something to that effect.
The reason John Adams said that is because in the presidential run he lost but became vice president (back then runner-up in the elections became vice president). He was pretty pissed off. He thought nobody would remember him or care about him as VP (hey he is right, nobody cares about the VP even today). Luckily for him he became president later on – even if only for one term.
The guy was very concerned with recognition. He sacrificed a lot, he wanted the country to do well – but he also wanted his monuments.
That remains to be seen.
Yeah there’s not way of knowing any of it was for the greater good or not. Unless you were there.
No way to tell if they wanted statues. But, I think it could be reasonably argued that these were men of power and the only power over them was Europe. Now the only way to consilidate that power for themsevles would be to seperate from thier parent powers. Sure, there is no garunteed statue, but it wasn’t like they were doing it for nothing.
If anything, I admire these men because they believed that the government that existed for them was corrupt and obsolete and they had the courage to overthrow it. I can only hope it happens again in my lifetime.
No you don’t, not really. True revolution is messy, with a huge amount of ‘collateral damage’. As in “may you live in interesting times”, the ancient Chinese curse.
Much better for all is to have a shift in the perspective of the majority, as reflected in who is selected by election. An example of the latter would be the change in status of women in this country, since the advent of the combination of women’s suffrage, contraception and Title IX.
Oh I really do. Bring on that collateral damage! Get me out of this office, away from the internet, and lets go make some history!
Admittingly, having a major public opinion shift is preferred, but seeing as how our enemies control the advertising, the media, the police, the military it is going to be impossible to get everyone to just shift. They are too busy bickering over Fox news and whether Obama is a socialist to realize the problems that really exist and how to fix them. And thats excatly what our enemies want. Drink, drug, fu(k, watch sports! Just don’t look.
The women’s lib movement is sort of an example. Yes, it came with more freedom and more purchasing power, but it also came with wage slavery. So you get to decide if that was a victory or not. Contraception was an unavoidible technological step.
What we need is to wipe the slate clean and start over using the lessons we’ve learned. Humanity needs a common foe we can all unite against.
WHICH WILL HAPPEN WHEN THE H1N1 VACCINE STARTS THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE ZOMG!!!11ONE11ELEVEN!1
(I was born to have fun on the internet)
B001e- “Blow Up the World”
“Fire the death ray clear us away
Kill the nighttime, sieze the day, spray
Laser light, let nature try again
Dilute solutions, it’s too late, let
Evolution clean the slate for
Men who live to find the gaian mind
Blow up the world.”
Humanity does need a common foe we can all unite against. And its already here. Its called the bourgeoisie.
My luck, your war on the bourgishishablahblah would come the day after i wont the lottery.
I like a foe that targets everyone, let all people fear for their lives and only the strong, smart, or lucky will survive.
Money means nothing in a world overrun by zombies!
Lol! With my luck… i would have probably won the lottery too… thats really funny just to think about…
And I would also be down with zombies or alien invasion.
Basically anything that disrupts land ownership enough for me to go build my hermit cabin in the woods and write.
Also, aren’t the bourgeoisie people? I mean unless I don’t get it, they are people too right?
That would be putting us against each other. Not what humanity needs.
Yes. They are people. But there is such a small population, I could probably convince humanity they were giant cochroaches or dung beetles. We just have to take over the Fox News tower.
Read your Alinsky — dehumanizing your enemy is critical, both to gain popular support for otherwise distasteful, illegal, or immoral policies, and to maintaining your own image as a tolerant and high-minded person.
I certainly know thats how the right deals with thier problems!
Yes, I’m sure you do. (Nice forced “us vs. them” mentality, too. I see your copy is well-worn.)
Isn’t it us vs them on any American issue? Vs The British, Vs the American Indians, Vs the Commies, Vs the Terrorists. Its the tactic thats tried and true in American history. Why would I want to ruin it for future generations?
So you’re comparing your irrational hatred for “the rich” to historical bigotry against Native Americans? Finally, something we can agree on.
Not at all. That translator getting hung up on you again? I am saying the same way the government villified the American Indians would work to vilify anyone, including “the rich”. Just play it on Fox News and the nation’s worst spellers will all see it, and rush out with their picket signs to make god’s evil vanish.
I was talking about *you* and *your* hate issues, you dolt. Do you really think that randomly shouting “FAUX NEW$$$” is a legitimate way to change the subject? And you wonder why people think you’re unhinged…
Again, you draw a parallel between your personal beliefs and something regrettable, like Fox News. Clearly we do in fact agree on this one.
(And just as a side note, chief, I don’t think you want to be looking down on anyone’s spelling. Just sayin’.)
what do these comments have to do the world war Z?
please stay on topic…
But I don’t have hate issues. I love people. You have hate issues. You can tell by the way you write. I am always saying how we should look out for people. You are always saying the opposite. I wasn’t trying to change the subject. You just like to take my words and arrange them in your head as you see fit, and the say something insulting. Kind of a waste really.
You’ll have to forgive me if, after seeing rant after rant from you expressing your hate for the rich, the right, Republican politicians, shadowy financial masterminds who may or may not exist, advertising executives, bosses, and the like, I came away with the impression that you’re a hateful person. Or maybe you don’t consider them to be “people”, because they’re not the “right kind of people”. Either way, you’re lying.
By all means, continue to delude yourself. Just know that you’re not fooling me — you’re filled with hate for anyone who disagrees with you, or has something that you want for yourself, and your superficial “love for people” (ha!) exists merely because you think it’s the most effective way to get what you want.
Wow. So now you are the Emperor himself? Can you feel my hate? Mwahaha! I don’t hate anyone. It can’t solve any problems. I do not like -a lot- of people. But I don’t believe in hate. I do, however, in your case, believe in stupid.
It’s the terrorists.
I think you’re in danger of sentimentalizing the past. A larger contributor to the movement of women into the generalized “wageslave” force, as you’d put it, is related to the movement of people in general to that category. Women 100 years ago worked their fool butts off (unless they were rich) as did men (unless they were rich!). Being a farm wife or the wife of a store owner or something didn’t mean just sitting around rocking babies, you know. The transition of labor with the industrial revolution to a less agricultural and crafts-oriented workforce affected both genders, although there was a lag in the movement of women to the centralized workforce in general it’s really (in my opinion) more related to the shift of the workforce in general away from the home and the invention of such things as washing machines and non-wood-powered stoves, which significantly decreased the time and energy required to run a household.
However, it should be noted that women of the lower working classes in particular have pretty much always worked, even when they had little kids. They just used to rely on more informal means of child care, many of which are still more prevalent than commercial daycare — e.g., working a different shift from your husband, having a retired relative care for the kids, trading off with another mother, or home daycare in small groups.
Lol…”Wall-o-Text” much? Guess I’ve got a lot to say today.
Oh no. I never said men and women didn’t always work. But there is a difference in a community working together to provide all of their needs in a pre-indutrial society and wage slavery. When you are working on the farm you are making food, or clothing, or shelter based on the raw good around you. Yes, you sell your excess, but you are making it so that you can survive. Wage slavery is where you cannot live without food, clothing, and shelter, but you have to have a job that doesn’t actually provide any of those things. You have to work for money, which then allows you to have the basic needs, such as food. If you don’t work for someone else (aka the owner)) then you have no needs met.
So the difference would be women working at home (which may be even harder depending on your children!) and women enterting the job market is huge. Think about it like this, when women were busting thier tails keeping the home, men were working in factories and making enough money to support the family. In some cases women still worked outside the home, but for the most part, one set of wages was enough. Now that women are in the work force, inflation happens, costs and benefits change. Now, unless you are doing pretty damn good, both of the parents -have- to work. There is rarely an option for one parent to stay home and parent. This could perhaps be how our children and thier children have so many problems. Wage slavery took away thier parents and gave them daycare.
I am not even saying that the past was “better” because I think we have been living with the SSDD since recorded history. But the jury is still out on whether or not anything has been truly improved.
I suspect we’d be in agreement that the move away from the decentralized, family-and-community based ways of making a living has created some problems. For one thing, kids old enough to walk and talk — well, they used to be given simple tasks as soon as they were old enough so that they were actually contributing to the family. Now it’s just playtime, aside from maybe a few pro forma “chores”, until (for many of them) they’ve reached an age where their great-grandparents would have been raising a family of their own. I think that creates a great disconnect and part of the sense of entitlement that many of them seem to have.
On the other hand, I’ve never really seen the point of not working, once your kids are old enough that they’re in school. I mean, unless you’re going to homeschool. What’s the point?
As far as the past being better or worse, I’d guess it’s much better in some ways and much worse in others. Hard to say if it evens out or what (with the whole “not having a time machine” thing, you know…).
Well you are in luck. I recently slipped off of my toilet and hit my head on the sink. It revealed to me a device that could allow time travel possible. Now… if my calculations are correct. When this baby hits 88 miles per hour. You’re gonna see some serious sh*t!
Ok. I think we are back to being in pretty much agreement again. Your followup was good stuff.
Wow, that explains a lot…
Personally I’m glad women were given the right to become “wage slaves”. I was raised by my mother in a single parent home. If my mom wasn’t afforded the same opportunities and salary as the men then where would we have been?
You are glad your mom was given the right to work. Thats great. Being able to work and provide for your children is a necessity. As for wage slavery… not so much.
That’s the point though. She did the same job as men. Without the femenisim movement should would of done the same job and got less pay. Whats bad about that. She worked for 17 years at a steel stamping plant and was the first female in the press room. She’s a living example of how women being afforded the same rights as men is not a bad thing.
I get you man, but that wasn’t my point though. Women getting the same rights as men is not only good, its the damned right thing to do. How dare they not have the equal rights? Its rediculous. But whats even more rediculous is using those rights against them.
“Oh really? Two people working outside the home? Hmm… I think I will speculate your combined income, and then over the course of the years i will adjust my prices on food, clothing, shelter, and entertainment to make sure I am getting the most out of that dual imcome that I can.”
Now you are getting half of what you were for double the price. And now that freedom of choice for a man or woman to leave the workforce to go home and take care of the kids has been eliminated, its has altered the state of “family” in our country, perhaps forever.
so you’re angry at inflation? Although we had everything we needed. Which from some of your older posts is all you think people should have, only what they needed. I can’t believe I’m going to say this but I kind of agree with you on that point. inflation is a row of domino’s and is started by greed. Sometimes it’s necessary, to buy newer machines and what not. but they keep the prices up for profits. But that’s the nature of capitalism.
Maybe I am angry at “inflation.” Depends on how you mean it. What I would say is that i think its unfair how the powers that be saw women entering the work force as not a chance for families to get ahead, but as a chance for families to stay living pay check the paycheck, but still only get the same things. Its was like they said “Hey, now there are twice as much of the family in the workforce, we should now make twice the profit.” Which led to the wage slavery of both sexes and the children without parents from 9-5 ((if their parents are lucky and got day jobs)). It is indeed the nature of capitalism. So.. maybe I am just angry at capitalism? I think it has failed to provide the masses with what they wanted, and instead has worked as a very efficient funnel system to get a select few vast wealth, while leaving everyone else out.
inflation: The increase of the cost of products. IE: in the 60′s a comic book cost 12 cents, now it costs 3.99, At least the government keeps raising minimum wage. It may do allow people to get ahead but it allows them to keep afloat. My question to you though. If everyone could get ahead when does the lower and middle class become the upper class? If everyone could afford their dreams what happens to society? for example, Where do the lower classes that build our cars go?
may not allow(damn no edit button)
I started typing you a responce, and it is starting to get rediculously long. Can I e-mail you or pm you a responce?
In short
1)Change what dreams people are trying to afford.
2)Change culture to look down on materialism instead of covet it.
3)Bring everyone to a true standard of living, and don’t base it on just having enough food.
4)Force corporations to give back to the consumers and employees rather than make profits for a very few.
5)As technology increases, most jobs won’t be dirty jobs, and if people are getting paid well to do them, we will always have employees.
Technically, the guys that build your cars are middle class. Now, the guy that washes your car, he’s more of an example of lower classes. (Economically; I’m not saying he’s got no class…)
VNV, what about the fact that we’ve already technologically advanced to the point where to put it bluntly, there’s really very few jobs appropriate for stupid people?
There is always something for people to do. Even if they aren’t the brightest.
You do bring up a horrificly good point Diss. What happens when everything is so automated, thet there are not very many jobs left to do? Does everyone starve except for the owners and operators of the machines? That would be capitalism. “You don’t work, you don’t get paid.” What happens when the jobs disappear?
To some extent (not all of it, to be sure) I think that’s part of the root cause of what you might call the PermaPoor. The sort of hidden underclass that’s not shown in the unemployment rates because they aren’t “actively seeking work”, and who may in fact reach middle age without ever having more than a few short-term entry-level jobs. My grandpa used to say, “Well, we’ll always need people to pump gas…” regarding those who weren’t too bright. But we don’t, really (unless you live in Jersey).
I wouldn’t mind an e-mail exchange. But I’m not dropping my e-mail in a publicly viewed forum. I get enough spam trying to increase my willy size.
Suggestion: If you friend each other on PK, you can post a message to each other’s walls with your email and delete it once you’ve each got the other’s. That way while it would be briefly available online, it would only appear to anyone else you’re friended with and then only until it’s deleted.
“I wouldn’t mind an e-mail exchange. But I’m not dropping my e-mail in a publicly viewed forum. I get enough spam trying to increase my willy size.”
Its like they know… wtf!?
In short
1)Change what dreams people are trying to afford.
So you want to limit what material possessions someone wants or can have? You dont want a porche a yugo will work just fine for you. What would be the insentive to do better or work harder if you are just going to get the same as everyone else?
2)Change culture to look down on materialism instead of covet it.
This would not be such a bad idea.
3)Bring everyone to a true standard of living, and don’t base it on just having enough food.
What is that standard? Who sets it? Who says “you have too much and you need to come back to the middle class? Once everyone is middle class what happens then?
4)Force corporations to give back to the consumers and employees rather than make profits for a very few.
The profits go to more than the very few. Most corporations stocks are owned by a multitude of funds that make up a majority of the populations 401ks, pention plans etc.
5)As technology increases, most jobs won’t be dirty jobs, and if people are getting paid well to do them, we will always have employees.
What is to keep a company from leaving the US to make their product in a country that does not pay $20/hr to their employees? Would this standard be applied across the world?
Remember, it’s not about enabling individual success, improving the lives of as many as possible, or anything similarly high-minded — it’s all about intolerantly forcing your beliefs on others. You’re allowed to own only the “right” kinds of things, work for only the “right” kinds of companies operating in the “right” industries, think only the “right” thoughts, ad nauseum.
Yay! Semper is playing too!
1)There is a great deal of stuff people can work for. You make it seem as if people are going to stop making new products. There will always be something bigger and something better to own. People will work, just as they do now, for it. Only more will be able to have access. Which will mean they spend more, which means they stimulate the economy!
2)Boom baby! Thats twice today! Imma get you yet!
3) All I can say is that the standard will have to be set by people with knowledge of it. It will be just like the “poverty line” accept it will allow for more than just basic necessity.
4) In comparrison to the masses of people that consume or work for any given massive corporation, very few see anything extra. Its got to be changed.
5) You just landed on a very key topic. 2 ways to deal with it. 1) make it so that your company cannot import its goods unless it adheres to all of our labor laws elsewhere. This will make it more porfitable to make things here. and 2) Yes. If we keep letting other countries be the planet’s lower class, then we are gonna have a mess on our hands if they revolt first. (China or India anyone?)
@Dhoti
You are still talking out of your ass.
VNV, about point number five, I always assumed you were talking about all of this change on a world wide scale. Were you just speaking about the US all along? It seems silly to just want something so idealistic for us and not for everyone else.
I still don’t think such a society will ever exist, but that’s just my personal opinion.
World Scale Only. It can’t just work locally. I am in it for everybody. However, you got to start someplace.
I love that you already broke your promise, VNV…it really validates my opinion of you…
So, I’ll assume a reasoned, intelligent response isn’t forthcoming, yes?
intellgant answer is forthcomeing:
yes bitter troll would like fries with that
Oh, is it time to order already? Um, I would like a chocolate shake and an order of tots.
oh and i can haz cheeseburger?
VNV: You’re ideas are against EVERYTHING this country was founded on. Your ideas DESTROY individual freedoms, and accomplishments. Where do you stop this “equality”? Do we start putting chains on wrsit bands on stronger people? Do we give people medication to make all IQ’s equal? Do we start genetically leveling the playing field? Where’s your self satisfaction in your ideas? Where is you strive for a “better” life? Really your “Utopia” is almost my hell.
“Oh I really do. Bring on that collateral damage! Get me out of this office, away from the internet, and lets go make some history!”
Have fun with that. I could do without the bloodshed, thank you.
They never appropriated funds for statues of themselves, they never named a highway or garnered funds to have things named after themselves, and they avoided spending money on things that were superfluous. Oh, and they really believed that change doesn’t involve the government doing for you, but you doing it for your country.
They would be horrified at the amount of government spending and waste going on right now.
And yet, one would hope, that they would be even more horrified at how much taxation without representation a majority of our country gets on local, state, and national levels.
^this.
Historical FAIL. These are the same guys who restricted representation to white male landowners, remember?
*sigh*
Well, you know what they say: when all you have is an angry, poorly articulated, quasi-Marxist hammer, every problem looks like a nail, right?
Bolt not every Marxist has a screw loose!
As always, pitty improves the thread. She’s no common nut.
Oh, I love you tool!
Awwwww…*blushes some*…so hammer you today, darlin’? Hope everything is on the level!
You two are such squares. You’ve drilled these puns into my head. We need to jointer-gether for more of these pun runs! (I work in the tool department at Sears, I can do tool puns all night!)
gah this is so gut wrenching
Got any more of them? Please socket to me! Some of these puns are awfully ratchet though.
Awl I can say is now I’m feeling a little ferclamped.
Wait a second? Now you are taking the side of the left? Look at you and your big boy steps! Soon you may even be able to make a comment that adds to something!
Ofcourse I know who these people restricted representation to. Geez. Why do you think I made the comment? Maybe your Douche to English dictionary is having trouble going to back to english too. Maybe you should go reaquire one?
…and again, it’s somehow my fault that you can’t articulate those little hamster turds you use as thoughts in a clear and historically consistent manner.
Oh you damned dhoti….you made me laugh really hard! I am absolutely stealing the hamster turd line. Props.
Mouse you always snicker rat Dhoti?
Well, the vole package is pretty funny.
I bet he’ll beaver care vole with his comments from now on.
Why bother? It’s not like I’m going to change my opinion of you because you liked something I wrote…
Why Dhoti….you’re blushing!!!
Just giving the devil his due.
You earned it…here’s your cookie.
You probably peed on it first.
Uh oh, urine hot water now.
…and again, its somehow my fault that you have nothing to say and no way to say it.
Other than pointing out that your poorly memorized claptrap yet again deviates from reality, you mean?
Cause that sentence had bearing on any of the conversation. Sometimes I get this feeling like you just come onlien to toss around insults with no real points. Besides, reality is not what I am dealing with. I am dealing with potential future outcomes. And you are dealing in 3rd grade insults. Begone you pitiful has been!
I’m sorry that you react so poorly to criticism, but that’s entirely your problem, not mine. I’d encourage you to work on that; overcoming your close-mindedness can only help you grow as a person.
Now, back to the matter at hand — you said the founders would be against what you see as a lack of representation (since, obviously, taxation without representation requires a lack of representation). I pointed out that this is unlikely, because the initial political system was specifically designed to limit representation. (Ignoring the whole difference in taxation between then and now, which I don’t have time to explain to you.) Now, can you please explain how what you meant was somehow entirely different than what you actually said?
Yeah. I am notorious for my closemindedness. Thats why I am always suggesting we do whats been done, and not try something different. How very close minded of me.
I think if you are ignoring all differences in taxation from then to now, its pretty silly for me to try and explain whats different, don’t you?
I’ve got a better idea. I am gonna let you troll me whenever you want, and whever you say something that adds to the conversation I will respond. Otherwise I am gonna let your lonely insults sit there and be lonely. But by all means. Get the last word.
No insults — just some constructive criticism, and a question, which was:
“Now, can you please explain how what you meant was somehow entirely different than what you actually said?”
I’ll assume by your insulting and weaseling that you’re refusing to answer.
Yeah its wonderful, great job guys! Good work 230+ years ago. But there is something missing..oh yeah…the funneh! Dammit, are people not trying for lulz anymore? The only humor in this site are the comments!
It would have been slightly better if the author had left off “The sudden realization that”
Somebody needs to kick the admins in the nuts (THAT would be funny!) for allowing some of this crap on the front page.
I lol’d!
I also think its halarious that the flags were forced into thier hands even though their pose was not meant for flag waving. *sigh* Reminds me of my first years at grade school. Had only I known…
They forced flags in your hands in grade school? Oh the humanity!
Basically. Without any history or implication explained, we were all forced to pledge, wave flags, and support our favorite football team, the USA Eagles. Little did I or anyone else know at that time, that we weren’t playing any games, and there were no “good guys” or “bad guys”.
Oh how horrible, you must be deeply scared from that horrible experience…
I look back on every pledge/salute with disgust.
I’m not a particularly big fan of pledging myself to a nation, and talk about indoctrination! Making kids who have no idea what they’re saying pledge allegiance to something they don’t yet understand?! WTF?
This is a damn good point. It is deeply disturbing to walk into an elementary school classroom and listen to a group of young children reciting, in regimented unison, the pledge of allegiance, before they know what allegiance means or what they’re pledging it to.
Allegiance is supposed to be a serious concept. It’s the kind of thing one should decide as an adult, not be conned into as a child who doesn’t know any better.
That pic is of the Apr 15′th tea party in Morristown NJ. The other tea parties at Morristown have had good weather. The weather that day was awful, with freezing rain falling for the first hour or so.
shall we mention the fact that when these men were around the flag would NOT have had 50 stars?
That takes away the illusion that these guys were actually standing around waving modern flags. Some people can’t handle that.
oh… then I won’t mention it…
Am I the only one who noticed that it looks like they’re trying to poke each other with the flags? Or am I just the only one who’s immature enough to mention it? Just wondering!
founding fathers fake sword fight! gogogogo!
Winner gets a cookie and another highway named after him!
Do they get fake arrested for fake threatening the life of a former POTUS?
No, but I’m pretty sure that the loser of the duel gets his own personal flock of pigeons!
I think that would suck enough. That’s about as mean as I’m willing to get today.
Then I’m totally giving John Adams a fake ray gun! *peew peew*
What I’m trying to work out is why this is a sudden realization – emphasis on sudden? I grew up with the idea that patriotism has nothing to do with statues, you either have it or you don’t. It never has been about statues. In fact, the whole lol is just stupid because it would appear that the captioner doesn’t have the foggiest idea of what real patriotism is.
Maybe the captioner is fairly young and is just starting to learn what patriotism really is?
bitter troll agrees, but most people seem to have forgotten it. its not how many flags you wave or how much you tell peopleyou love your country. its about really doing something, giveing up or paying a price for your country. how much are you willing to give for your nation?
I have 28 cents in my wallet. Will that do?
uncle sam will take it-nods- no matter who is president
I don’t like my Uncle Sam. He’s creepy. Keeps pointing at me and telling me to do stuff.
dont listen to that bad bad uncle…what sorta stuff?
No, no, no, no, no. I’m not going there today.
*slaps self on wrist* I will behave myself for 24 hours.
how many hours left?
bitter troll will just write down what you say
About 8 or so.
bah so when you get out of work?
but bitter troll cant harrass you then!
Oh, I only have about 2 hours left at work. But I have to tutor my friend’s 14 year old sister today and I really don’t want to have my mind in the gutter while trying to show her how to solve equations. It’s bad enough I corrupted my friend, not going to do that to the little sister. It’s just not right.
eerrr…ya give her a few more years, then currupt her.
bitter troll dont want a chris hanson moment
Yeah, I was thinking of slowly managing the corruption in over the course of a couple of years starting when she’s 16. (Not that she needs my help. Kids today! Seriously! I would NEVER have spoken to adults at that age the way she does!)
And… Blonde moment… a Who Moment???
go to youtube and look up chris hanson, its funny!
to catch a child preditor
I’ll have to do that later. Big Brother in the IT dept doesn’t like You tube.
that jerk! bitter troll will shave him!
Actually, I think our Big Brother for this company is a “she”. So, Big Sister? I don’t know. It just doesn’t have the same ring to it.
nosey angry sister?
With a big, hairy mole on the end of her nose.
ewwww
WITCH!!!!
BURN HER!!!
Tried to tell my boss that the witch turned me into a newt but she didn’t believe me because I had already gotten better. Stupid short term spells. So hard to prove.
Yay! No more work for the day! Almost done tutoring! Whoohoo!!!
let the currupting being!
He said he wants me. That freaks me out, dude.
And if not that young? If you could ask my sons about patriotism their answer would be completely different then what the captioner’s notion of patriotism is. But then a lot of that is how they were brought up. And as an aside, no, they aren’t robots spouting what they have learned from me. I have given them the ability to formulate their own ideas without any real influence.
Now it’s entirely possibly that whoever did the lol does understand what patriotism is, but the lol is still stupid.
someone please cite for bitter troll where any of the founding fathers said ” oh and we dont want statues, kthxbie”
Can’t do it.. but you do realize that statues are generally erected after the person dies, right? So I’m guessing that they didn’t have much input as to whether or not they wanted a statue.
but you cant PROVE they didnt secretly want a statue?
bitter troll wants a statue!
90 feet tall and made of lead!
Would you settle for 56 feet tall and made of cast iron?
newp! lead! and quicksilver if we can manage it
Doesn’t cast iron have a tendency to rust if not properly taken care of? Who’s going to do the maintenence on this thing? I have a hard enough time taking care of my skillets properly.
oooh then fill it with battery acid and tell children its a pinata!
Noes! Not teh lil childrens! Though I do know some adults that I wouldn’t have a problem doing that to.
That little bit of LOLspeak gave me heartburn. Darn it!
tums ?
-starts to pass out blindfolds and sticks to orphans-
Why yes, thank you. Much better.

Shouldn’t we be getting some sort of kickback from Social Services for this? I mean, it’s significantly reducing their work load.
Bitter troll’s little trollmobile runs on orphan’s tears.
And the losers end up in bitter troll’s freezer. This saves him lots of child hunting in the long run.
My cousin touched something lead once. Her mom thought she was going to get lead poisoning. My mom laughed at her. Paranoid people are funny.
Fvck the statues. Some of them have their faces carved into a goddamn mountain!!
Kudos to you for encouraging them to think for themselves. Not all parents are like that.
And yes, regardless of whether or not the person knows the meaning of patriotism, it’s not a very funny LOL.
so why do we call it a lol?
why not a lolame?
Good question.. I like lolame better!
Maybe that’s what we should call the unfunny lol’s from now on. I wouldn’t mind it.
and so it is decided-sagenod-
Is lollame like gold lame, only lamer?
Could you exspandex on that thought?
Sudden? I think someone’s a little behind here….
What do they care, they’re dead! The statue is for us, as a sign of honor and rememberence of them.
Are they dead? They look like a gathering of those deadbeat performance artists who lurk about in the centre of every major city pretending to be statues and feeling mighty pleased with themselves, and to whom the only humane response is itching powder.
Or a few well placed BBs…or Dude!….Taze ‘em!!
God…the craven cousins of mimes…fit only to be devoured by a rat stampede.
They had some pretty intense ponytails, apparently. Did they headbang?
Aw, they’re wearing wigs! Buncha posers….

Well that does it for me. I’m sold.
See?? Even George wants the Funny!
And how is this relevant to my interests?
This spaminator has posted the same damn thing (oh, no, he couldn’t just post a link, had to embed video) on everything lately. If he’d just posted it ONCE, I might have looked out of curiosity. Not now, though.
And the admins will leave this crap up? C’mon admins!!
My guess,
Left to right
George Washington, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson.
So many loud loud opinions.
Why do I think most of these vociferous commenters can’t actually name the first three presidents?
“Why do I think most of these vociferous commenters can’t actually name the first three presidents?”
Cause you’re an arrogant douche, hand-job troll? That’s just my guess.
Ben Franklin….the only President of the United States who was never President of the United States.
Not Benjamin Franklin Delano Roosevelt?
Um… the statues aren’t of the first three presidents.
That’s Washington, Hamilton, and Lafayette, in Morristown, NJ.

Since my first reply got hung in moderation (probably because of the link)…

job…..see post by CB below.
You guessed wrong.
Why do we think you’re a douche?
Uh huh. And can you name any of the other ones? Will you remember Van Buren? Both Harrisons? Both Johnsons? Harding? Polk? Pierce? Tyler? Cleveland? Huh?! One of the coolest books we got our kids was a book about presidents (well, it was about Obama), but the first page was a list of all the presidents. It was fun going through the list talking about who each president was. My 6 year old actually did a pretty good job reading most of the names.
I know this picture, it was during one of those Tea parties in New Jersey.
Patriotism – the idea that if you say “we’re doing it for America” you can rape, kill, torture and maim anyone you like, and no one will object, because they know if they do, you’ll make them your next target.
Patriotism – the idea that waving a flag can cover up a thousand sins.
Patriotism – the last refuge of a doomed argument.
I don’t know the other two, but that’s Barry Manilow on the left.
