@mabsba – technically being married presumes the spouse is the father (not always the case)
adding the father’s name to the birth certificate is what gives legal recognition to the bio father regardless of whether or not the parents are married to each other.

Actually I was referring to the way Jim was using the phrase “out of wedlock pregnancies”. The way he phrased it seemed to imply that all unwed parents are terrible and amoral people.

@DU: I did not mean to imply that there aren’t people who make an intelligent, adult decision to have babies without getting married and I, personally, do not see anything wrong with that. I apologize if my comment was taken that way. (But marriage does make the father the next of kin for medical decisions if something happens to the mother, which is nothing to sneeze at.) I was thinking (and probably should have said so) of the many teenage mothers we have here. It’s the link between the pregnant teenagers and the abstinence only sex ed I was trying to show.

And you are absolutely right about the failures of abstinence only sex ed. That’s why our state declined to re-fund the program.

Well, to be honest, if you ask me to show you MY birth certificate, military ID card, or my college transcripts I would probably tell you that it’s none of your business. I don’t see why there’s such an issue over it with you. He obviously has to prove that he had the legal right to run for president, otherwise it would have been game over. And considering the fact that he started his campaign like two years ago, don’t think it’s time to just get over it and deal with current issues?

The first thing I though of when I read ‘let his days be few’ was that it was implying that he die soon. This same controversy would have come up if it had been bush except it simply would have been the other side calling it out. I also resent the statement “On the positive side, it must have forced a lot of libs to open their bibles.” I know some very devout Christians who are liberals and I know atheists who are republicans. I myself have personally read the bible and do not agree with it or many of it’s teachings.

Rando: In the clutter of the polling data the other day, I heard that controversial Sheriff Joe Arpaio was up by 22 points for governor. That says seismic shift. And there were a lot of stories like that. Conservatives have been on the defensive, trying to stop programs and policies they don't like, but we need to go on the offensive. It's the right time. A lot of people are angry now, and when the bill comes due, they are going to be a lot poorer and a lot more angry.

and don’t forget all those homes for unwed mothers and the girls who went to stay with a relative for a year or so, or the girls that were simply labeled as fallen and were ignored by society. or the girls who went off to the big city, and got married right away, only to become a widow just about the time the kid was born…. or the back alley abortions, or even abortions done in legitimate doctors offices because the fellow had some compassion.
change doesn’t happen without a trigger – laws aren’t written until somebody realizes there is an injustice and demands that it be remedied.
