  1. n10bettes says:

Photos. No, using them over and over again does not make them funny.

  2. dissimilitude says:

Isn’t it a little bit presumptuous to assume the person of Asian descent is a foreigner or doesn’t speak English? (Yeah, yeah, I know the caption doesn’t have to accurately reflect the content of the photo, I’m just sick and grumpy.)

  3. keithybabes says:

And lots of foreigners understand English perfectly well. Americans, Canadians, Australians..

  4. The lady has that look on her face that clearly says, “You really are a douche..” And, based on the other flags in the background, it would appear that she’s also holding an American flag.

  5. Truthiness says:

And she’s about to say ” And thennnnn?”

  6. Shagsbeard says:

Ummmmm…. the guy is the foreigner. They’re in China, or Tibet, or some such place.

    • Nebton says:

Absolutely! There are American flags all over the place in China and Tibet, but you never see a Chinese flag in America!

      • It's so obvious! says:

At least, not in YOUR trailer park.

        • Ivan The Patron Saint Of Shortright & Pastafarians says:

          Sarcasm recognition fail, retard.

          • It's so obvious! says:

I was playing along. What’s with everybody today?

            • Ivan The Patron Saint Of Shortright & Pastafarians says:

Sorry. I’m just so used to you being douchy. I didn’t recognize the playfulness. Heh.

              • It's so obvious! says:

Nice backhanded comment. That douchnozzle on your face is so clean and sparkly today, Ivan, what are you doing differently?

                • It's so obvious! says:

That’s because I approach everything from the center. I prefer knowing how both sides think. Sometimes that pisses EVERYONE off. But I’ve got big shoulders ;)

                  • Ivan The Patron Saint Of Shortright & Pastafarians says:

All the better to support your big head. Just sayin’. ;)

                    • HelOnWheels the Gene Pool Lifeguard says:

@ISO – I’m with Ivan & Rando here. Your approach doesn’t seem to be so much about showing both sides of the story as telling most people that they’re being rude to you when you’re being douche-y or when they prove you wrong/disagree with you. Just stating how you’re coming across to some of us.

      • FaileV says:

I thought this was taken in china during or just before the Olympics, which explains the flags, particularly the one with rings in the background.

        • Nebton says:

It’s possible. In which case, I retract my previous sarcastic comment.

          • FaileV says:

It makes the guy look like more of a douche however. Yelling at a chinese citizen about tibet seems about as helpful as yelling at a school student for their school policies.

            • HelOnWheels the Gene Pool Lifeguard says:

The problem is that many Chinese citizens believe that Tibet is part of China, it belongs to them, they have a right to be there and their policies are in no way violating any human rights. So, they support the policies of their government, they don’t just “obey” them like a student would obey the school policies.

              • FaileV says:

what would yelling do to help that? I don’t know a lot about the chinese government so I’ll only say that in general a government will try to get the nation to support them because when enough people are pissed at your decisions there is trouble.
I assume the chinese government has done things to show how their decisions are the right thing, and anyone growing up with that knows that to be right.

Having someone yell at you does nothing to change what you think is true. In fact it would hurt the cause more I should think because then the opposing view brings up the idea of lunacy represented by some screaming guy.

Yelling doesn’t change peoples minds. I’m not sure it ever has.

                • HelOnWheels the Gene Pool Lifeguard says:

I don’t believe that yelling is ok or helps. All I said was that your example was not exactly accurate.

                  • FaileV says:

No that’s true, but it’s hard to think of a good analogy because there is a difference in the way people think depending on what nation they grew up in. or live in.

              • casprd says:

Tibet is part of China and has been since they booted the Brits out in the 50′s. Funny how the west is all about “free Tibet” and “free Ksovo” yet south Ossetia which is terribly oppressed by Georgia is ok (the asian Georgia, not the USA Georgia)

                • M.A.D.MiKE says:

That’s called propaganda my friend :)
p.s. Tibet was a part of China long before the Brits…

                • paws4thot says:

A quick refresh of my memory of Chinese history confirms that you are talking out of an oriface normally used exclusively for defication or sodomy!

EG, China was never a “British Colony” as you imply, Western influence in China was effectively ended by the Boxer Rebelion in 1900AD, even though the rebelion is regarded as unsuccessful…

                • HelOnWheels the Gene Pool Lifeguard says:

“yet south Ossetia which is terribly oppressed by Georgia is ok”

Way to generalize and bring in a loosely related but flame-starting topic into the discussion, troll.

  7. I used to work with a guy that would argue with you taking this exact same pose. That is the time when his argument would become invalid and people would just walk away.

I’m curious as to what this guy is hoping to achieve by being so “in her face” with his agenda.

    • Nebton says:

The funny thing is that, judging by her expression, she seems more amused than threatened by his shouting. Perhaps she’s thinking, “And now you’ve proven how weak you find your argument that you have to resort to shouting!” (If I had to go by lazy stereotypes, the white guy is probably pro-Tibet independence, and the Chinese woman is probably pro-China. I’ve had some interesting, reasoned, discussions with some of my Chinese friends about this topic, and it’s interesting to hear their point of view. Even if I disagree with it, it gives me something to think about, and it makes it clear to me that the issue isn’t quite as black-and-white as some would like to make it.)

      • FaileV says:

I’ve never heard the chinese point of view on the whole issue. Care to summarize or would that make you uncomfortable?

        • Nebton says:

Basically it boils down to that they liberated the Tibetan people from the cruel Tibetan monks who were treating them like serfs. There is some truth to this.

          • Danbala says:

That’s how I’ve had it explained to me, too. The Chinese style of dictatorship is far from great*, but the feudalist system they had in Tibet wasn’t exactly lovely* either.

            *) Understatements galore!

          • casprd says:

That’s spot on. Chinese support among rural Tibet is very high, and even the majority of the urban dwellers support China over the previous psuedo fuedal system. Most of the western anti-China in Tibet sentiments are a result of the Brits being kicked out of Tibet IMO.

            • Mel says:

The main problem in Tibet is that the Chinese government would not allow their religion and banished the Dalai Lama, and most Tibetans still values religion over everything else.

              • Nebton says:

I would say the truth lies somewhere in between what you and casprd wrote, but that’s being a bit too kind to casprd, and I think Mel is mostly, if not completely, correct. (When were the Brits kicked out of Tibet? That’s not even part of Chinese propaganda. Try reading up on the history of Tibet before you suggest such a crazy idea again, OK?)

As for Mel, yes it’s true that the Chinese government (like most, if not all, Communist governments) does not care for religion, and the Tibetan religion in particular is a problem for them. That said, Chinese claims on Tibet pre-date the Communist revolution, and in 1942 (i.e., prior to said revolution) the US tacitly supported Chinese claims. As for Tibet being free of Communist China, I think that’d be great, but I also think it’d be great if the rest of China were free of Communist China.

    • Wino says:

He doesn’t have to convince her of anything. He is correct and he knows it. That is what that face usually means. Just like using obscenities during a discussion on any thread on the interwebs.

  8. RDF108 says:

All the people holding the PRC flag will be supports of the Chinese Military Invasion.

  9. Ambiguously Gendered Asian: Sorry about stepping on your foot there…

Overly Angry White Guy: Damn you Monk Oppressor! That was my angriest toe!!!!!!

    AGA: Um, sorry?

  10. lolol says:

    DO..YOU..SPEAK…ENGLISH??!!1!

  11. tedr2 says:

IMO this pic could not have been taken in China or Tibet. They government do not tolerate any show of different opinion regarding policy such as Tibet.
It is true regarding how the common Chinese citizen thinks that Tibet is part of china. How else can they know better with the government in total control of media over there? It is kind of horrifying that about a billion people can be purposely misled by their own government. I hope that now other country follow the Chinese model of government.

  12. telefil says:

As for the caption, I saw very often during my time in Japan that people do in fact start repeating things louder and louder in English, hoping that it will make a difference. I also overheard the patriarch of a very loud American family informing said family (while on the subway) that “they”–meaning the Japanese people–all speak English, but that they just don’t want to. This is not a slam against Americans, there are a lot of beautiful people down there who are not jerks; but I never allowed any Japanese people to assume I was American. There’s a bad image of Americans abroad similar to that of Britons back in the earlier part of the 20th.

I think the worst thing I ever saw, besides the hysterical girls jumping out in front of a wedding procession to take photos (so embarrassing), was at a Wonder Festival. A big American guy with a sandwich in his hand (food is prohibited) was pointing and grunting at a box that he wanted to see. The dealer selling the product was confused–didn’t know if the guy wanted to see it or buy it or what. The dude with the sandwich just kept pointing with his free hand and grunting, making louder sounds as his request was not met.

It doesn’t take much to learn a few phrases, a few words, and especially all the apology words, when you’re going to be in a foreign country.

Whatever’s going on in this photo, the dude does not need to be screaming. As was pointed out before, it never makes a difference, never changes a mind.

    • ms says:

Actually, when I (try to) use a foreign language, I appreciate when the talker speaks loud and slowly, with pauses between the words. It makes it easier to understand.

On the other hand, if I don’t get a word after 3 or 4 tries, you can just assume I don’t know that word and you should say something else. I’ve never recognized a word on the 11th repetition.

(But shouting doesn’t help, because it distorts the speech.)

  13. Breesus says:

I really just love how calm and somewhat amused her expression is. Maybe she doesn’t understand him or maybe she doesn’t care or, more likely, she understands him perfectly and is amused at what a douche he is and how he thinks that screaming in a person’s face will actually convince them you are right. Either way, win for her!

I would also agree with other posters that I doubt this is actually in China.

  14. JMixx says:

“…saying it louder does not help (non-English-speakers) understand it.”

Neither does adding “-ee” to the end of all the words. Or “-o,” if it’s a Spanish-speaking person.

  15. MRDR says:

That guy looks kind of like Stephen Colbert.

  16. Jules says:

Mother Fu cker, do you speak it!?
