Nature sucks, what has it done for us lately? Delayed planes, caused earthquakes, flooded cities, I say we finally bend nature over our knee and show it who’s boss. Who’s with me?

  3. Bix Nood says:

Its funny. That week we had Earth Day while the earth was busy spewing out CO, and poison gas.

    Nature looks total fake.

    • Rando the Magnificent says:

      So does your mom.

    • Cynical-Vegemite says:

Actually it’s not fake. Some volcanoes cause some very violent lightning storms in their plumes when they erupt. It isn’t exactly clear why it happens (the levels of friction don’t seem to be adequate enough) but it also occurs in dust swirling over sand dunes in deserts and it is believed to be the same thing that can cause grain silos to explode as well.

One very good theory is before the particles in a cloud collide, they have an overall neutral charge but are polarized by a background electric field, with a negative charge toward the top of each individual particle and a positive charge toward the bottom, relative to the ground. Upon colliding, the particles neutralize each other at the point of contact, but when they separate again they became further polarized, with additional charges building up on the particles’ edges. When you multiply it by the billions of charged particles in a volcanic plume you get really spectacular lightning strikes.

The only problem with this theory is what causes the background electric field.

    @The name of the volcano
    Gesundheit.

    • Jimmylou says:

      Is that englished now?
Oder meinst du eher “God bless you”?

      • oɹɹɐɥɔ says:

Nah, he means gesundheit. Americans like to sound smart by saying random things auf Deutsche. See?

        • crazny says:

Considering English is derived from German, its not random its part of the language itself.

          • Default User says:

But it’s a distinctly German word, not an English word. Many people don’t even know what means other than something you say after someone sneezes.

    • Paws4thot, the PK Booty Caller says:

      I missed Boobfest!? :(

      • Nucky the Booty Wench says:

*gives paws his own personal view of boobfest* Nope, you didn’t :D

        • Paws4thot, the PK Booty Caller says:

          :D
[Responds with tackle-cuddle and lots of kisses]

I bought you some presents when I was away; let’s go to the dungeon, and make sure they all fit and work properly.

          • Nucky the Booty Wench says:

*claps hands in glee* Oh, goodie!! What’d you buy me?

            • Paws4thot, the PK Booty Caller says:

[takes Nucky off to dungeon, undresses her, blindfolds her (so that's one), fits leather cuffs round her neck, waist, wrists and ankles, bats her firmly on her booty with a cut-down cat of 9 tails, then chains her down on the bed, with her legs spread, and her wrists chained together above her head].

Now, what next? I know, tickle-time! [starts tickling Nucky, looking for her sensitive spots (sensitive to tickling that is; I can find spots that are sensitive to kissing, licking, stroking and fondling first time)].

  9. Philip says:

Is there a desktop-sized version of that image (without caption)?

    • Default User says:

Google image search “Eyjafjallajökull volcano” will probably get lots of nice pictures of the volcano, though not necessarily this one specifically.

  10. Xenon says:

Volcanoes. Are. Pretty. That is all.

  11. Alen004 says:

Thats funny, I was surfing the web and found this other hilarious site that has instead “Thats What She Said” Stories and Jokes from real people. There are super funny just google twssmoments and they should pop up first result.

  12. BIONICLE says:

I pride myself on being one of the few people who can actually pronounce this name.

    • dissimilitude says:

Considering that most people are stumped by it, I’d say just making up your mind that your pronunciation is correct and proceeding with self-confidence is about all that would require. After all, if we don’t know how to pronounce it, we won’t know you’re wrong, will we? ;-P

  13. acemsdavis says:

Niccolo woz there first! (see Dorothy Dunnett’s To Lie With Lions)

  14. zipper says:

Everyone knows that volcanoes are all Bush’s fault.
