You couldn’t have asked for a better summation. GOP, get over it. You were wrong then, you’re wrong now and it isn’t going to get any better.

  7. TinCanOnAString says:

    About damn time!

  8. Dan, ad nauseam says:

o/~Honesty is such a lonely word

    When Boehner speaks

  9. Clueless says:

While this was amusing, I don’t think it was helpful to the easing the bi-partisan split in congress. Perhaps the “summation” could have been stated in terms of goals and common ground.

    • Lady Shinigami says:

That’s just it. He DID point out the common ground: upon repealing the Democrat/Obama health care plan, the Republicans are planning to reinstate virtually all of it under a different name. So they don’t actually disagree about the majority of the thing—which is specifically the common ground, since both Democrats and Republicans seem to agree that new health care laws are needed/desired by the public—they just don’t want people to relate it to Obama. They’ve said as much in the past, and Mister Weiner is simply pointing that out.

The problem is that Mister Weiner is from Brooklyn, and New Yorkers simply tell it like it is, which is frequently not the way the other end of the conversation would want to hear it.

      • Clueless says:

Ah, but you have stated the common ground in a manner that is comprehensible and free from sarcasm. I wish he had done as well as you just did.

      • kurisu7885 says:

If they wanted it to be associated with them, they had over eight ****ing years previous to do it.

      • Vikavid says:

He’s my Rep. from QUEENS! I refuse to acknowledge that he represents that hellhole to the south of us that I gratefully moved out of last year.

Sorry, I just wanted to say that. But I am glad that I voted for him last election. He makes a lot of good points here, and makes me proud to live in his district (Kew Gardens).

        • nothingtoseehere says:

Weiner’s district covers parts of Queens and Brooklyn, from Kew Gardens and Forest Hills in Queens it dips around, then goes over to Mill Basin, Sheepshead Bay and Manhattan Beach. Gotta love gerrymandering!

          • Vikavid says:

And again I state, I refuse to acknowledge that he represents that hellhole to the south of us that I gratefully moved out of last year. Lalalalalalalalala, I can’t hear you, lalalalalalalalalala.
            :P

        • Laura says:

But in Brooklyn you can pay a lot more for a less safe neighborhood that sounds cool!

          -Rego Park.

  10. keithybabes says:

That’s it? That’s IT? Doesn’t sound very socialist to me.

    • Clueless says:

No it is not socialist. Sigh. Our health insurance industry makes me crazy. I stayed with Group Health 20 years. During that time I got thyroid cancer which caused multiple problems before it was treated. The most serious problem was a stroke. After the thyroid cancer, I got another small cancer. Guess what, the insurance company still made a profit on me.

      • kurisu7885 says:

I wonder how much they poured over your family records to see if they could deny treatment due to preexisting conditions

      • keithybabes says:

*has a sad*. I don’t believe that health systems should be run for profit. Full stop. AND I don’t consider myself a socialist.

        • mortsmailbox@yahoo.com says:

Amen. And I don’t consider myself religious.

        • Anniee451 says:

Tell us that after you spend 11 YEARS and untold dollars in college and med school and residency just to become a GP…5 more years for specialty. Then tell us you should be forced to just give your services away. Good luck.

Yes, it’s socialist. Yes, this congresscritter lied about the bill left and right. What a turd.

But…I don’t care because Keith Olberdouche is gone LMAO

          • TinCanOnAString says:

What did he say that was a lie Anniee? Point to one of his statements and tell us what was untruthful about it.

Nobody is asking doctors to give away their services. The doctors will get paid, just as they do now. Actually, given the fact that more people will have policies with private insurance companies, the doctors will probably get paid faster.

            • Anniee451 says:

We’ve done this. Go read it yourself if you want to know what’s in it. You know, the way Republicans were told they had to pass it to find out what’s in it? You have to read it to know what’s in it. I’m not here to do your homework for you. And if you don’t understand what’s socialized about it either you don’t understand socialism or you haven’t read the bill. See ya’ when you’re done – good luck, it’s pretty f*cking long.

              • TinCanOnAString says:

Know what’s funny? I do know what’s in it. I’ve read it several times. I’ve sat in meetings and lectures about it and taken courses to help me understand it more. Part of my job is helping insurance agents understand it. Try again.

You clearly have no concept of government theory. Please tell me the definition of socialism. Go ahead and look it up; I know you you won’t be able to provide a definition without doing so. Once you have it, post the definition and then just one example of verbiage in the bill that fits that definition.

When involved in civilized debate, it is the responsibility of the person making an argument to back up that argument with substantive proof of their assertion. Without such supporting evidence, your argument is incomplete. You asserted that the bill is socialist. Please provide me with just one example that supports your claim.

                • TinCanOnAString says:

Typical. Nice job avoiding the subject. I’m not asking for a full debate and you know it. I asked for one little example to support your claim and you got nothing.

That’s pretty typical of those that call the bill socialist. You can’t name one single thing about the bill that falls under the accepted meaning of socialism, but you’ll continue to tell everyone you speak with that that it is.

From what I’ve read of your comments on other threads, I’m getting the sense that this is pretty typical of all your arguments.

                  Like I said. Typical.

                • Nightshift says:

You just proved tincam’s point do perfectly all I can do is…./applaud

Quite clearly you have no idea what socialism truly is, have not indeed read the bill yourself, and are willing to rectify niether of those facts in an effort to defend your ludicrous stand.

                  Argument fail.

                  • Anniee451 says:

I never intended to argue it, night. Call it however you like – makes no difference. Hehe – I love this super-secret definition of socialistic economics from people who don’t have a clue, though – you just don’t know how ridiculous they make you look. No idea. None.

Tron, I spent WAY too much time making detailed and informative posts with many links and sources at the beginning only to be dismissed out of hand. No interest in doing it again. It is what it is. And what it’s going to be, if all goes as it is supposed to, is de-funded. Then I’ll laugh and laugh. And if it isn’t, the GOP will get their walking papers come their next elections. And then you can have the whole damn thing and burn it down all you like. If the ever-onward march towards socialism can’t be stopped now it likely can never be outside an actual civil war. By the way, we prefer to be misunderestimated anyway; you ought to know that much by now.

                    • Cyber_Controller says:

The subjective nature of reality makes talking about anything difficult.

                      Yet again.

                      • Anniee451 says:

Ok, we’ll go with that then. See, tincan (mistakenly called you tron before; sry) it’s the subjective nature of reality. Go figure.

The very nature of your question was absurd. It was framed impossibly and if YOU knew what socialism was you would have known that before you asked it. I wonder if I could get Lee Doren to explain the epistemological problem with a question framed so improperly? It’s a little too meta even for me, frankly. All I can say is it makes you sound like A) a liar and B ) very evidently ignorant of the subject matter in question. Ridiculously so. If you had any idea how ridiculous…well whatever. Enjoy it while you have it. We all know the repeal probably won’t go through but de-funding works just as well, and that’s the congress’ job, so we can all bite our nails watching guys like the one in the OP making asses of themselves on the house floor.

                      • Anniee451 says:

And I’ve already given you too much by explaining that the problem was the entire framing of the question, so don’t ask for more. Hit the books and I’ll catch you on the flip-flop in a couple years or something.

                      • Naliord says:

Anniee451, once again you have shown that you only have talking points to repeat and absolutely no evidence to back any of that bullsh!t up.

When pressed for examples or evidence, you just claim “you did it all before and don’t want to do it again, go find it yourself” (TM) or “it can’t be discussed in this forum” (TM) or “no, YOU didn’t understand it” (TM).

You clearly have no evidence for your spewings, and that after claiming that someone who has no clue shouldn’t post about the thing he/she has no clue about. How ironic, don’t you think?

Just give it a rest and stop embarrassing yourself any further.

                    • SayCheez says:

from Merriam Webster Dictionary: Socialism: any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods

2 a : a system of society or group living in which there is no private property b : a system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state

                      • TinCanOnAString says:

                        Thanks SayCheez.

Anniee, using SayCheez’s definition of socialism, tell me how the health bill helps the government own the means of production and distribution of goods. Tell me, how can a requirement that citizens carry private insurance from private insurance companies support a system “in which there is no private property?”

                    • Nightshift says:

                      *proof of

                    • Vikavid says:

                      Damn those home keys, right?

                    • forge says:

“super-secret definition of socialistic economics from people who don’t have a clue” — that’s pretty frickin’ funny when you won’t tell us *your* definition of it.

                • Cyber_Controller says:

Excellent job on getting informed, Tincan. I’m not sure I could’ve read that thing with as much depth as you did.

              • forge says:

LOL, **I** understand Socialism *perfectly* well, because **I** am a Marxist. Your talking-point definition of Socialism wouldn’t hold up to the disinterested scrutiny of an overfed housecat.

          • SayCheez says:

Tell me exactly how this bill says that you are going to be forced to give your services away.

          • forge says:

It’s not “giving anything away” and nothing is “free.” It costs money and providers will be paid what’s fair the same way they are under Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security right now. If providers were being asked to provide their services for free there would be no doctors in Sweden. Greece. Finland. England. Canada. Mexico. Colombia. Belize. Jamaica. France. Spain. Italy. Germany. The Netherlands. Denmark. Chile. Brazil. India. Indonesia. Australia. New Zealand. Romania. Um, I don’t have time to type all the names of countries where they’ve had socialized medicine (which again is not what is being enacted here) and voters have had plenty of opportunity to vote it out of existence and haven’t. You think doctors don’t have healthy political action committees in all those countries? No it’s not perfect anywhere, lots of people have complaints but they still aren’t giving it up. Wonder why that is, oh yeah because switching over to what we have here would be f*cking INSANE.

          • The Amazing Rando says:

Why is that not working for a profit automatically means you’re not making any money at all? I’m sure we could make it where doctors still get paid well without money being the big motivation to being a doctor. In fact, I find that doctors that seem more interested in the money are generally crappier doctors.

      • Xinner says:

For one thing, if you drank every time the democrats lie you would be as drunk if not more drunk than if you drank when the republicans lie, but other than that I won’t get into this debate. Seems like everyone (myself included) has already made up their minds anyway.
To me, the real question is why this was posted here in the first place. It’s not funny in the least. I want to laugh at politicians on this site. There are plenty of other forums for serious debate. Thumbs down to the user who posted this and to the cheezburger network for allowing it to be on their site.

        • Vila Restal says:

Actually you’d be drunk whenever any politician decides to open their mouths as all that comes out of them are lies and stuff that smells very suspicious :-)

  11. shin0bi272 says:

wow that guy is a total nut job.

    • danielsangeo says:

What did he say that was wrong?

    • Nightshift says:

Yeah, he spoke the truth! He used verifiable facts! He MUST be a nutjob! /rollseyes

    • Anniee451 says:

He’s not just a nutjob, he’s a liar. But what do you expect? It’s worked for a long time now; they expected it to work forever. Guess we’ll find out when the time for funding comes, eh? I don’t envy the new vanguard in the house – they have a steep road ahead and this time we’re watching real close. And they know it.

      • Nightshift says:

Well, lets at least be honest here..he’s a politician, of course he’s a liar. Both sides are. Both sides always have been. It’s the nature of the political system. To assume otherwise, to assume that any of them are %100 truthful %100 of the time is just naive. I just happen to believe this guy on this point as he points out the misinformation coming from the opposing side of the isle. Especially when it is so easy to point out those inconsistencies as they are do blatantly untruths. And I still fail to see how encouraging people and businesses to use private insurance plans is socialism.

        • uckfay says:

A service that you are required to purchase in order to be in good standing as a citizen is neither private nor insurance. Although to be accurate, this is more like corporate fascism than orthodox socialism. The state mandates production but delegates it to a non-government organization accountable to the government.

  12. Scott says:

He really likes that “wholly owned subsidiary” line. Watch that “Ever met a Republican not Owned by the Insurance Industry” video. He gets disciplined for using inappropriate words and then goes on to use them again and again. He just doesn’t learn.

    • Anniee451 says:

Holy sh*t that’s HILARIOUS! What a lunatic that guy is :D :D :D And dumb, too – like you say, he just doesn’t learn.

Which idiot district voted HIM in? I want to make sure I never go there LOL.

      • Anniee451 says:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBqtyvn7OVw There’s the link. What a maroon. Have you lost track of how many interests “wholly own” the Republican Party yet? Also, the Republican Party is at civil war within its own ranks – but they’re OWNED…by this interest and that interest and insurance and God knows what-all. Apparently everyone owns it…hey, that makes it kinda representative, no? These people are too dumb for words.

  13. P. says:

new IRS Agencies? True. The enforcement of the “fines” for the Healthcare reform is done by the IRS. The bill is a change to the Internal Revenue code (See page 1158, line 12). Who infrnces the Internal revenue code???

Death Panels? ‘fraid so. The directives (not always doctors, or public elected officials) include “End of life care” in their judgment for treatment. Page 129-130.

As for number of agencies? No clue really. But the number can be tricky. If somebody says there are 132 items, and there are 131… HA LIAR!!! But I wouldn’t be surprised that the party of big government would add more agencies… would you?

While I do like healthcare reform, I don’t like THIS reform. I liked the one Obama promised while running for office. Dems and Reps, Doctors and Insurance people sit down and work out something everybody likes. Instead we get Dems telling Reps what is happening, Obama having to flat out bribe members of his own party to vote for it (aka enough Dems didn’t like it for it not to pass), the people didn’t want it (CBS Poll found 75-80% didn’t want). It was forced through. “We must pass it in order to see what is in it”… That is bad.

    • P. says:

er Enforces… Speeling is bad… I just got up sorry.

    • kurisu7885 says:

That death panel crap is and was a myth. End of life care simply means getting one’s affairs in order for when they do pass away. Making sure their will is properly enforced and whatnot. It has nothing to do with cutting off care, something which many hospitals and insurance companies already do.

      • uckfay says:

Uh, no. End of life counseling has nothing to do with wills and the transfer of property. That’s why it is administered by MEDICAL practitioners in a MEDICAL environment and is part of a HEALTH CARE regulation. What you are describing is a conversation that one would have with his lawyer or estate planner. End of life counseling is intended to help you decide whether your life is worth continuing to spend money, resource and heartache to perpetuate.

        • Nimeth says:

End of life counseling is nothing of the sort. It’s about making sure your wishes are known in the event of your death. Medical care is not denied if you still want to continue to receive care. Death panels are total bs.

          • kurisu7885 says:

Besides, death panels exist already. It’s called the board of directors. Read a few stories where people were told “Either being paying for it yourself, or leave” and for around 90% of US citizens, the decision is made for them right there.

        • Bhazor says:

You really have no idea what you’re talking about do you?

        • Nightshift says:

Wow, you have so CLEARLY never worked in the health care industry its comical.

    • TinCanOnAString says:

I tried to put in a full response, but it didn’t post & now it won’t let me re-post it.

The essence of that post, though, was that you are misinterpreting the cited section. Advanced directives are made up by the patient, not the doctor or the insurance company. The section you cited makes it a requirement for insurers to provide tools to the patient to help come up with a plan. It also points out that patients aren’t required to plan if they don’t want to.

You’re making an assumption that a change to the IRS code means more agencies. Can you find any language in Title 8 or any other section of the bill that sets up more IRS agencies?

    • SayCheez says:

There are no “death panels”. The bill simply allows doctors to be paid for spent discussing “end of life care” with their patients.

      • MrsQ: Philly-Mom says:

Actually, a friend of mine was a Social Work / Therapist specializing in ‘end of life care’, providing grief counseling to family members as well as counseling to terminal patients…
        – and there aren’t many gigs out there right now for that kind of work.

        Maybe people aren’t dying.

    • Nightshift says:

How on earth do you get ‘death panels’ from ‘end of life care’?

      • forge says:

Same way you get “government takeover of health care” from “encourage people to purchase health insurance from private providers.”

  14. steven faul says:

If G.O.P. means “Greedy Old Parasites”, then D.N.C means “Daily Nearing Communism”.

  15. starlord says:

    More s’mores, anyone?

  16. Tori says:

Get a grip people. Are you so uncaring that you would let your politics deny the elderly and sick of medical care? Those of us who are taxpaying American citizens deserve to have healthcare. This is a democracy, we should have our rights.

    • uckfay says:

      1. The elderly and sick are not denied medical care now

      2. Paying taxes does not entitle you to health care

      3. This is a republic, not a democracy. You have lots and lots of rights. Having the government steal someone else’s money and spend it to pay for your health care is not one of them.

      • Nimeth says:

You realise that if government made you pay taxes to pay for healthcare, not only would it pay for others, it would pay for your own healthcare too.

Of course that isn’t likely to happen anytime soon.

      • kurisu7885 says:

        1. Yes they are. Last year a cancer patient was denied a treatment because it was deemed experimental.

        2. It should.

        3. The money would also be paying for YOUR healthcare.

      • forge says:

Having to wait until you’re “really sick” because the only place you can get treatment is an emergency room at a public hospital is not real medical care, it’s triage. Public hospitals failing and going out of business because they’re forced by law to treat people who don’t have any money is not medical care either, it’s fricking insane. You know why two aspirin cost you $80 if someone brings them to you in a hospital? Because we don’t have a comprehensive health care system and the hospital has to treat people who don’t have any money. To say nothing of people being sent home because they’re “not sick enough to be treated in the emergency room” and then they wait until they’re nearly dead before they finally get back in, and then instead of $4 for a course of penicillin it’s costing the hospital $40,000 to keep someone from dying of rheumatic fever. This whole thing is f*cking stupid and insane and it needs to stop.

        • SemperGunny says:

I know I’m late to the conversation, but I would like to point out that Anniee has previously stated that SHE affords healthcare by NOT paying her hospital bills and forcing the hospital to ‘write it off to charity’.

Leaving the rest of us to then cover that cost in the form of $200 Tylenol tablets.

Anniee is not worried about her taxes going up, she is worried that someday she may be forced to take responsibility for her own medical expenses instead of skipping out on the bills.

Please take all of her arguments in with the above context in mind.

      • Vikavid says:

“Having the government steal someone else’s money and spend it to pay for your health care is not one of them.”

So what do you call that line on your paystub labeled “Federal Medicare Employee”? Isn’t that already a tax that’s taken out to pay for someone else’s health care? Sorry, that makes you argument rather invalid as it’s not “stealing” (stealing indicates unauthorized taking, when you work in the US you agree to paying taxes, which makes it an authorized confiscation), and it’s already being done.

Also, as others have pointed out, it would pay for your medical care as well, just as now if you lose your job and insurance, and qualify for Medicaid, part of my paycheck would pay for your medical care.

  17. Jake Wideman says:

Why do you Republicans hate the truth??

  18. Tinkie says:

*Shakes head* Stupid US, not knowing their own good..Why would you want to keep a health system were people die because they can’t afford treatment? In most other countries, people are refused treatments that cost over US $ 100,000 a year if it only keeps them alive a few years. If it keeps them fully functional and able to work, they still get it.

And as some have said, if the GOP wanted to bring their own change to the health care system, why didn’t they do it when they had the clear majority?

  19. Heather says:

All of you who think this guy is telling you the truth obviously get their news from Lolcats and John Stewart. This dude is an aggressive terd in the punch bowl. The great thing about being a democrat in power is that democrats don’t fact check they simply support things upon how they make them FEEL. This guy is lying as every single thing he claims republicans lied about are the lies the democrats have pushed through while you slept or watch the Daily Show. Boatload of Chumps
