I don’t know about racist. Both Italians and Germans are caucasians. It is certainly an ethnic slur on Italian accents and intelligence, but in the end it only displays the bigotry and ignorance of its perpetrator. I guess that’s why I’m not angry. This person designed and executed his own punishment. Kinda sad, actually.
You are right, both lols display and attempt to propagate a bias against a group of people based only on their difference from the target audience. The major difference being this lol implied Italians were inferior, while the other portrayed the Chinese as an actual threat.
Actually, the other portrayed big spending politicians as the threat. It only portrayed the Chinese as doing what anyone would do naturally and that is taking advantage of an adversary. Not sure what is so wrong with that…
The actual threat was our jobs going to China because of our debt burden, made larger by free-spending pols. It would not be wrong of the Chinese to take advantage, but it was still a threat made all the sharper because it was made by a stereotypical ethnic Chinese.
Well what I saw was the reason for the threat being laid out by a Chinese woman speaking broken English, as many Chinese English speakers probably do. Then the woman being called Debbie Spenditnow? That says it all, she was obviously the threat according to the commercial, not the pretty Chinese lady on a bike. I’m sure people don’t really think the Chinese people are coming over here and literally stealing our jobs somehow…

No, they think our companies are leaving here and taking jobs that were ours with them. They would be leaving us and going to China due to taxes. Debbie was only a threat due to her spending, which would cause taxes to rise, contributing to the exodus of opportunity to Fu Manchu’s yellow horde of Blue Bees.

itsybit: The reason big spending pols are a threat is that taxes need to go up to support that habit. One of the direct consequences of raising taxes is that businesses will leave for greener pastures. It’s not a question of patriotism but of pragmatism: they’ll go where they can make the most money. The point the commercial was making was that China lent us a lot of money and a lot of the companies would go there. So, kind of a double whammy: taxes go up and possibly lose your job. At least that’s my sense of it.
Exactly, sounds like we agree. If our politicians can stop that insane spending we can maybe reverse some of the damage. The Chinese are not our enemy, we are our own worst enemy. That to me was the message of the Chinese lady commercial.

Atheism on paper yes, atheism in the real world though includes some varying level of malicious denunciation of anyone who believes otherwise. Typically describing such dissenters as stupid or psychologically weak.
I hate to say it, but it is comments like that one that make me think that South Park may have given us a pretty accurate depiction of a future in which all religion is wiped out, but there is still war because they can’t agree on which version of atheism is the correct one. As long as people can rationalize the devaluation of large groups of people for their perceived differences there will always be war. That’s just as true of atheists as it is anyone else.
Granted, considering most atheists I’ve found are agnostics who don’t know what the word ‘agnostic’ is, I doubt spirituality, I don’t think two atheists will knowingly stumble upon each other by chance and get around to explaining their version of atheism. ;3
If they were agnostic they wouldn’t be confrontational about their atheism. Since if they were agnostic; they would be readily admitting that theism could be true and that atheism may not. Further they’d be also making the first step into admitting that atheism is a belief. BJ is an atheist, the assumption that atheism has been proven while theism has not makes him one. I would say he’s a soft atheist since he’s willing to compromise IF proof is ever provided.
I just realized I strayed off a bit. Most atheists I’ve met tend to be confrontational about their belief. And they’re not shy about making jokes that would denounce religion or theists. That to me would make them purely atheist.

Militaries will be more efficient if smaller (ours still blows theirs out of the water with technology, equipment, and power), our economy has a greater GDP per capita and lower debt per capita, and we are miles ahead in any other technology field
