  1. That Guy says:

Hope in humanity… it has been lost.

    • MrsQ of Philadelphia says:

You’re new to the interwebs, aren’t you?

    • waggle237 says:

why? just because a bunch of people dont know some guy who sang in an old boy band? i think you put too much emphasis on your own taste in music

      • That Guy says:

I don’t really even listen to Paul McCartney, but I still know who he is. It’s not a disagreement in taste in music, it’s the blatant ignorance of these people that causes me to lose faith.

        • neoritter says:

I think there are more important things to know than who Paul McCartney is. If that’s all they’re ignorant of, I could care less.

          • That Guy says:

Fair enough. But usually many of these people are far more ignorant than just not knowing who Paul McCartney is. I remember I had an AP U.S. History class my junior year of high school, and this one guy went through half of our class thinking World War II took place in 1886. That’s not some isolated incident either, I’ve seen a LOT of people that just make you wonder how they go through life with as little knowledge as they do.

Maybe I’m just crazy, and rambling, but hey, just calling things like I see them.

            • neoritter says:

You know the other thing to consider is, maybe these are joke statuses in response to the large amount of, “Who is Bon Iver?” statuses, after said band won best new artist at the grammies.

If you think of the Beatles as an old boy band, you’re definitely the one who put too much emphasis in your own taste in music. Or lack thereof, I don’t know, I won’t judge.

But you’re missing the point anyways; this is far worst than ignorance about music: this is ignorance about history.

        • imnotreallyhere says:

Sir Paul is not really an historic figure. Jack Kennedy, Martin Luther King junior, Ho Chi Minh, et al. were historic figures because they had an impact on actual history. Sir Paul had an impact on art, a different, though important, field.

          • Geary says:

However, the Beetles were one of the major players in the hippy movement, a movement which changed America’s outlook on war.

            • imnotreallyhere says:

I would say having footage of battles fought that day brought into your living room changed attitudes more. I wasn’t old enough to vote, but I remember that. As I remember the music, it was only a little more political than it is now and not very influential: just an indicator of where you stood on the issues of the day.

Remembering the Beatles and remembering who was in the band are two different things, anyway. McCartney went on afterward to form Wings but nobody seems to remember that. No one remembers because Wings didn’t do anything important. The Beatles were a far greater band than the sum of the parts. McCartney was only one of those parts, and never achieved the same success afterward. In fact Lennon was the most successful in this regard in my opinion.

  2. InGen Corp. says:

    That is… wow.

I wonder how many of them know the names of the people elected to represent their state in Congress.

  3. chong says:

    typical American kids

  4. Lil Jon says:

Want to see something worse? Next Christmas check out the hashtag ipad or ipod and watch the amount of spoiled kids complaining about NOT getting one.

  5. CaliKitty says:

That’s OK. My feeling about the Grammy Awards was summed up by David Letterman: “A bunch of songs I don’t know by a bunch of people I’ve never heard of.” So, it works both ways. The last time I watched the show was the year Green Day played “American Idiot” (which was great). Haven’t missed a thing by not watching since then.

  6. Amanda says:

I don’t wanna live on this planet anymore.

  7. B.B. Bluecollar says:

This answers why we need funding to keep the musical arts in school.

  8. Mike says:

    Modern women for you.

  9. Winston Wolfe says:

All of these people are asking to have one of Ringo’s drumsticks driven through the thin portion of their skulls.

  10. Lucifern says:

I don’t like him, but even I know who he is

  11. Steve? says:

And this is why all the terrible people win Grammys.

  12. Katie says:

    Are you effing kidding me??

  13. arieas says:

I would be led to believe they are all joking… Its just too consistent to not be.

    • InGen Corp. says:

Well, the tweets were all collected together by one guy, which implies that they were originally found individually.

  14. Phillip Ontakos says:

Looking at many of the pictures associated with TWITs, I’m sure that just as many of them could have just as easily replaced the words “Paul McCartney” with “My Daddy”,

  15. Beatlesfan says:

One thought came into my mind looking at this lol Paul’s favorite song. “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer”

  16. Night Nurse Tony says:

So none of them thought to run the name through a search engine?

(No, let’s just proclaim one’s ignorance on twitter, instead of using the 140 characters to type in a search.)
